Odin, don't bother with mod podge. I find out the best alternative to plastidip is mixing pva glue with water in equal parts, and do at least 5 coats. It dries fast. It won't have the brush marks like the mod podge. Good build.

Thanks! The bush marks were a disappointment. I have seen PVA glue and water used on the art cars in the Grand Kinetic Championship, and it worked really well and was strong. I will give it a shot on a future build.

Yep, if you use just PVA glue, it will end up cracking and peeling. Diluted in water will make it more flexible and durable!

I often use carpenter's glue diluted in water when building miniatures. I guess PVA works equally well, but in my mind carpenter's dries harder, although it's also a lot more expensive ! Another tip to avoid paintbrush marks (if using mod-podge) would be to use a foam brush instead.

What's you ratio of water to glue for the diluted mix? I have tried once with a heavy glue mix, and it cracked and peeled straight away.

With PVA glue, I use equal parts of glue and water. More water means you will need more coats. More glue will mean less coats, it will be thicker, also more propense to brush marks and peeling/cracking Do some test on scrap pieces of foam and see what works best for you. That's what I did. I'm from Brazil, so I'm pretty sure the ratio will be different, because you can get better glue, better foam and better brushes up there.

One way you can avoid having as large of a seam between the laminated pieces is by sanding off the texture that's on the foam where you glued it. This will not only give you a cleaner seam line, but it will also give you a much better bond.

at 0:31 I was holding the vase level on the table, with paper underneath. There is a pencil against the speed square (the triangle thing) which I was using to trace the profile of the side of the vase down on to the paper. You can make your first pattern with cardboard to make sure it's a close fit.

I just thought of an awesome prop to make. In the RWBY anime series, the lead character "Ruby" uses a large scythe weapon. If you made it in foam ( 1/1 scale ) to be convention friendly, it would be a big hit.

Hey Odin, i don't mean to promote another channel by doing this but i recommend instead of using the hair gel, you could use the "ninja turtle ooze" that The king of random used. He had a very clear video on the proportions and what makes it better than the hair gel is the fact that you could mess with it and it is possible that the light shines differently inside with the borax solution
