Fun fact about Boyd's: They were an electronics dealer in London and the address that appears in the second half of their logo was for their store. It's now an Age UK charity shop.

I'm in possession of a few VHS installments of the Kid-A-Littles (a puppet/live action newsroom show for kids that honestly warrants its own Archive segment someday) with the older black background Simitar logo, albeit backed with the same music. Fun fact about that show: Allan Trautman, the puppeteer and voice for Giggleberry and an all-around interesting dude, was also the puppeteer for the mom in Dinosaurs. I went to a panel of his at DragonCon last year and was treated to a serious blooper reel. And the voice of Scoop McGooter on the Kid-A-Littles, Wayne Kaatz, would go on to voice the Master in the Brave Little Toaster.
The only logo that ever scared me as a child was Ad Council. It felt so cold, bleak, and uninviting. Though I'm pretty sure it was just the icing on the cake after the proceeding PSA, which at the time were rather horrifying to watch. Real nightmares I had about Autism Speaks and Smokey Bear, dear lord why... I've never seen Ad Council in a scary logos competition or playlist. However, the ones I saw, much like you, I never found that equally scary. That's when I found the old Archive episode. Now I just non-stop marathon scary logos, PSAs, PIFs, all that good stuff. Thanks Ben, I'm glad to know that I'd overcome fear just like you did.

One thing I like about watching older movies is seeing the different production logos at the beginning and end, especially the ones that are obviously dated. Maybe I geek out over weird stuff. You always seem to find some great gems that are both weird and interesting at the same time, and this episode was no exception. I actually liked some of the logos at the end that you thought were boring.

The music on the "adult" one reminded me strongly of the chorus to "Tether" by Chvrches. The one that had me scratching my head the most was the one with lyrics. I imagine someone at that company assigning someone to write the words, and the other person thinking, "But... there usually aren't vocals with the music over the logo" and being afraid to stand up to their boss so just writing lyrics anyway.
Ben, thank you for including the MTM / Mimsie clips; I binge watched all 6 seasons of "St. Elsewhere" very recently and so I loved hearing that tiny bit of the theme song! ❤😎👍

Since it's nearly been 1,5 years since you last made a logo-related video, I've been thinking about another such video. More specifically, companies' rebrandings. I sure know TVP and Polsat had many, even if they generally didn't change their names.

The 80s was just so tacky in some ways, synergized and airbrushed artwork, bad synthesised ditties and overly bright flouro colours like hot pink and electric blue. Its burning my retinas already.
Later that day Ben and Ed would have Nacho pizza while having a Marx brothers marathon later segre would join in at the end of it would clame Groucho was a genius and spend the two weeks with shoe polish mustache and dark glasses later Ben would dress Chico and Ed as harpo and they would win best theme costume at Ed uncle Wayne's Halloween party .
That VPRO logo was scary af to me!

Same here. Now I have something to watch on my lunch break.
Scary logos are kinda hard to understand if you weren't there. But in general, I believe their horror mostly comes from the fact that, a really young child is *truly profoundly* ignorant about how television works, and how the world works in general. From a cognitive standpoint, the way television works is, *complex.* From individual programs with their 'verses, things like end-credits (which to an illiterate child are more an indication that the show is about to end than credit information), channels, etc etc. All that stuff are things we take for granted to such a degree that it has become reflex, its actually *hard* to think about even if you *want* to. And its all things that a young child won't know. So without that knowledge or experience, television programming kinda flows like a weird amorphous blob from one state to another. Things like logos, or text, just become part of the artwork as it were. Speaking about text, early childhood illiteracy also is a big factor. When we see text, we know its text and what it says. But for a young child, they see it how it is - its just weird shapes that become part of the images. Combined with the lack of knowledge of how TV works, and how the world works, a logo could trigger a primal fear or two. One way to think about it is, to a young child, a scary logo would *feel* about the same way that a nightmare might feel to you. And I mean *real* nightmares that make you feel awful. I guess it makes sense that logos can inspire nightmares so much. This makes me come to the conclusion that, surprise surprise, the logos aren't scary, at least not much and not by themselves. It's *other,* special circumstances that bring the horror out. Even if those circumstances are recursive, like having prior history with the logo, or whatever, its still not the logo thats doing it, but something else.
Scary Logos is the Archive video that got me into the Archive, so it being the worst one actually makes sense.
Simitar? You mean the people who released The Christmas Light, The Christmas Brigade, and the WWF knockoff album that got them sued to oblivion?
I'm happy to see another logos video, the first one brought me to this channel. I also had a feeling the Video Update Sing-A-Long would also return! Vadi-Mon didn't do adult films oddly enough, just Spanish movies. Also I'm wagering that Stuffed Squirrel, We Kicked Your Puppy and possibly Home Video Supplies were fake in-house creations much like the one or two that appeared on the first video!

10:05 Wow, the DiscoVision Spirograph! Supposedly newer (meaning 1990 or later) Laserdisc players can't even see it since it's before the 'Beginning' of the video. Older players ignored the Start code imbedded in the disc and would just start playing from the physical beginning. I also read that the DIscoVision name was trademarked in 1972, so it was a coincidence that the name just 'happened' to coincide with a really popular music format at the time.
Great now I'm gonna see mangos in my nightmares.
