14 year old girl: Billie Eilish makes the best music. Me: “Who ate the egg salad sandwiches?”
The correct answer is "DIAL A CHICKEN! DIAL A DIAL A CHICKEN!!!!"

My phone's ringtone is actually the theme of this show. I've yet to run across anyone that recognizes the song, though

Well it's a bit low-key, lacking the "Umpf" to stand out. Kinda like the show, it has a slow-burn, lingerie taste, but sadly is just not mainstream nor weird enough to have popular appeal.
25:53 I'm surprised Ben didn't attempt the screaming portion of "Why Do You Think You Are Nuts."

I did, but it ran too long to leave in the end credits.
"Santo Gold" reminds me of Dragon Sound's "Friends Forever" from Miami Connection because they existed in the same absurd reality.

Keith Mansfield - God of Vaporwave.
Keith Mansfield’s Cyclotron is actually very similar to the 1977 song “Radioactivity” by German electronic band “Kraftwerk”.
To be fair, Pavanned really is an earworm. I find myself humming it from time to time. Solid theme song for sure.
Surprised there was no mention of “Ta-ra-ra Zoom de Ay!”

Ben, my earworm was that Cal Worthington commercial. I was raised in Southern California from roughly 1976 to about 1989 and that commercial especially in the local channels would constantly come out. "Cal Worthington and his dog spot!" Lol! That always brings back good ol memories😁

Seattle also had a dealership, so we got to hear that in Vancouver as well.
Pavanned is indeed a great song.
I genuinely love that muzak version of Take My Breath Away. There's just something about it...
When I first heard the SCTV one I had to look the sketch up, and it was amazing. Would definitely buy a 5 Neat Guys album. Also, surprised to not find Italian Dance Party on here.... (also also, I always assumed Pavanned was a reference to a video format - something about panning...)
Where can I get a full version of "Who Made the Egg Salad Sandwiches"? In fact, I made my own version of it! Hypothetical "Who Made the Egg Salad Sandwiches?" Full Song [1st Verse] I woke up this morning and I pulled up my chair. I sat right down, and what do I see, But an egg salad sandwich there? I picked up my sandwich and I took a bite, And when I swallowed, man, did it taste swell My buds are jumping in delight, so... [Chorus] Who made the egg salad sandwiches? They're better than the tuna and the cheese. I said, who made the egg salad sandwiches? If you don't mind, and if you got time, can you make me another, please? [2nd Verse] So, I got up from my chair, when my sandwich was no more, 'Cause I knew right then and there I just had to have some more, I tried my best to copy that sandwich, but it didn't come out quite right. I burnt the bread, I dropped the eggs, and gee it was a sight, so... [Chorus]
Pavanned is absolutely an ear worm and having it as your opening theme just reinforces that! I’ve genuinely considered making it my ringtone, but I honestly never take my phone off of silent mode.
The Greyhound Motors commercial was also a good earworm.
My vote goes to the the cameraman's pants at 3:13. Those things are loud enough to deafen us all.
Thanks, anytime I go to this mall in San Francisco and see the store name Bloomingdales, that darn Alexander's jingle is going to buzz around in my head.
I immediately thought of VD, and I was not disappointed.
Another fine video Benny boy and it's good to see Parvanned claim its rightful spot at number one. Found the insight on how Parvanned got its name interesting. Keith Mansfield output is a bit patchy. While he's capable of releasing a decent album like Technomatics, he's also more than capable of releasing of something dull like Contact. Other artists who ploughed a similar furrow, Andy Clark (whose albums 'The Next One' and 'Synthesis 2' are excellent) and Trevor & Geoff Bastow (The Video Age) are far more consistent in their output and recommended for fans of early 80s synthpop.

Turns out I have been using a Keith Mansfield piece in my videos without realising it. My episodes 7-12 featured this number, which also ended up being used in radio jingles at the time: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y4d_uMqYg7HQc5s.html

'Soft Shades' reminds me of the theme tune to 'Taxi' as it has a similar sort of thematic feel to it. I do enjoy the downbeat feel to side two but can understand why it may not be to everyone's taste. Another good album to have is David Reilly - Modern Music in the English Styles which is worth a listen if you like the music from the early '80s.
“The Shrink” might be my favorite. So much so I’m off to watch #165 again before continuing. Happy Thanksgiving all!
Ruggles Ice Cream jingle is my earworm. Not the version sung by children but the original with Lorenzo Music -- the voice of Garfield! Can't find it anywhere on the interwebs. Great video as usual.
The "Cyclotron" track reminds me so much of "Radioactivity" by Kraftwerk.
Where does that electronic version of Night Fever come from? That's almost as catchy as the Egg Salad Sanwiches!
Jimmy Fith looks like Jay Leno in a wig.
I'm still in absolute love with your Polka remix of NIN's "Survivalism".
"Why do ya think you are nuts!" Punk Rock from the late seventies/early eighties CA middle aged parent perspective! In a way there's something truly genuine in it. The pain and irony and generally boorish un-charismatic raw expression is at least as REAL as many of the less gifted L.A. Punk acts. (I don't mean the bands anyone would have ever HEARD of, of course, maybe on a compilation or mentioned on a flyer, that type of thing) Really it's more like the anti-punk novelty acts that you don't see much about anymore but were NUMEROUS in that era. The Tubes being the band of that stripe that took it all the way to the big time. But I heard something else in there, some kind of excitement. An honest glee from getting the chance to emote without a filter...which is both less cynical and MORE punk than what your average run-of-the-mill "hardcore band #915" would be doing at the time. It's like they're having the kind of fun that only the first DIY punks in a community can have. No judgement, no definitions, and a sense of their own absurdity that prevents pretention or precocious posturing. But maybe that's just the DMT talking.
Because i am weird, I like Pavanned. Maybe for the same reason why I like the intro to Deep Purple's April more than the regular song.
MAN! I LOVE that muzak cover of "Take My Breath Away" ... Hearing that now sent me to the muzak jamz part of youtube to listen to countless hours of paul mauriat muzak covers.
Oh geez, all of these are definitely good (bad? good?) earworms. With the Godspell 8-track I tend to get "Prepare Ye..." stuck in my head more, but this video reminded me just how so-cheesily-bad-it's-okay the whole thing is. As for Pavanned, nah, not a pat or kiss. At least from me. It really suits the show really well. As some kids call it..."aesthetic". And it's been on/off stuck in my head since the first episode you used it, so that's some strong earworm power!
I have been looking for that damned muzak Take My Breath Away cover AS LONG AS I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THIS SHOW. Thank you for finally showing me where I can find it.
Once again, Benny Boy has topped himself. Great ep, Ben!
that make your own sunshine song has been burned in my head since I heard it. Also that damn cover of James Conolly on the st patricks day vhs tape
Happy Thanksgiving, Benny boy! !!! One of my favorite earworms from Oddity Archive is Senses Working Overtime.
“Here it is, guilt and all...” - Jimmy Fithian
Shame I missed the poll when it was out. I always found the tune to the Cartrivision video pretty cool, for some reason. It would've gotten a vote. Also, Pavanned is _absolutely_ a great song in its own right, and one of the most unique, intriguing KZread channel themes I've ever encountered. You deserve to be proud of it, Ben!
I've had both The Alexander's jingle and the 5-Neat guys stuff stuck in my head all week. I'm not complaining
18:10 - The song first appeared in episode 44 as the closing music. I need to get out more!
2:58 - Oh, HELL yes! I really actually liked this cover and it gets stuck in my head all the time. This version specifically.
I hope you have a good thanksgivng Ben. H&M MIch
I saw WebTV connecting music on the list - a shame it didn't make it. Same with The Great Darryl Nathan and "Beware of Pretty Fine Girls"
Is it just me but does santo gold look like party Pete from regular show without the beard
I love Pavanned! It hauntingly creepy and melancholy.
While I was digging through an archive of my dad's music, I found an eerily similar version of the "Take My Breath Away" Muzak piece on an Intersound Inc. disc called "Love Survives". The difference seems to be it uses a guitar instead of a sax. You might want to start there. Edit: The "band" that seems to have performed it appears to be named Spectrum.
Good choices, and yeah, could definitely envision Jiminy being played as background music during one of TWC's local weather update segments!
Keep up the great work and looking forward to new content.
My brother and I used to stay up late back in the 80s watching corny Carradine movies like Death Race 2000 and Santo Gold would come on around 2 AM on some local cable tv channel. We watched Santo Gold countless times and loved it every time, laughing non-stop. Never bought any of his junky jewelry, though. Good times.
Shazam came up with something for that "Take My Breath Away" muzak version.. but it's in Japanese. Google Translate gave me "Love is like a sigh (from the movie "Top Gun") - by the Movin Dream Ochestra. Released in 2002, on what appears to be volume 14 of a series, and has some connection to NHK. My phone would let me copy the artist and title to clipboard so I could translate, but won't do anything from the album info page. I did take screenshots, though..
Happy Thanksgiving, Benny. Keep those funny videos flowing! 😆
Happy Thanksgiving, Ben!
No asskissing here. Your original theme song composition is legit. The ONLY good thing to come out of KZread copyright police. And, also, I feel the VD is for Everybody's "irony" would have worked better if it was made in the 90's. Now it seems that every PSA I've seen is ironic on some level. Or intentionally horrifying.
Glad you had a day in Runners up❤❤❤

I don't know why was expecting a standard top 10 earworms list when this is the Oddity Archive. Not that I'm complaining a course, it's kinda like a Oddity Archive's Greatest Hits so to speak.
Alexander's. I love the ad. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜❤️🧡💛💚💙💜❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
My vote would’ve been for that TV Party intro from the Public Access episode last season.
#2 TY. That track is so cool to me :)
You gotta update the list, as RB Furniture is one catchy jingle.
The Bunnyhoppers - Santa Claus, Rudolph and Us is another Earworm. Non-Sectarian is a favorite. Roland made some good songs. Oddity Archive also introduced me to Buzzy Linhart and Mink Deville. If only there was a full version of Who Made the Egg Salad Sandwiches.
I don't know what I was supposed to "hear that correctly." I could barely make out any words. Remember that was the era of refusing to pronounce any consonants. e.g. Elton John, Winwood, etc.
I came for the VD mention since it's so annoyingly catchy, but I stayed for Blood Circus. I had no idea it was considered lost since I thought it was still on KZread and readily available. I guess that says a lot about what was being released between the 1970s and 1990s if I was confusing this for something else. According to Wikipedia, Santo Gold claimed to have found the 35mm negatives of it in 2008 and was looking for producers to looked for to pick it up . The LMW said that, regarding the reels, they were posted on eBay as a buy it now for a staggering "21 million dollars and a buy-it-now price of 750 million (including insurance), or an option to buy a partnership in the film." No bids were ever placed for the reels. Another auction was placed in December 2013, but again, no bids. At some point, the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz got their hands on it and did a secret screening of it in 2014 and the following year, a 35 LPP print of it was up as a buy-it-now for $3,500 USD. So, yeah, there's no real answer in sight as of writing this as to what's going on with the film. For me, you'd think that the Alamo Drafthouse would have talked to Santo about the screening and possible rope in distribution groups like Massacre, Synapse, Blue Underground, or Vinegar Syndrome about picking it up. Hell, Anchor Bay was still around at the time and they probably would have been happy to get involved. It's a shame that it's still in the void more or less and I can only hope that it gets some sort of release before the 40th anniversary of the film's initial, limited regional release.

It wasn't relevant to this episode, so I didn't discuss it, but I have reason to believe that Santo died a few years ago (circa 2017). If that is indeed true (and assuming he wasn't bluffing about the 35mm copy of the film), then who knows what kind of legal spaghetti "Blood Circus" is tied up in. I would certainly welcome a reissue, but I'm not holding my breath.

@@OddityArchive Yeah, that's the frustrating thing with lost or missing media if we have leads as to where it might be or if we at least found some of it. It's such a slow waiting game to see if there's going to be any major pay off. But, yeah, I agree. I won't hold my breath on any sort of major update coming up assuming Santo wasn't bluffing and someone still has that print.
Also, I came back to this post to ask a question, would you ever consider doing n Oddity Archive on programs like Winamp and RealPlayer? There was an entire world of entertainment on Shoutcast TV back in the day that was truly independent because all Winamp/Shoutcast did was list it, the content creators streamed it themselves so copyright was completely ignored! I remember a Demoscene channel and lots and lots of anime fansubs which had me watching Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh, Bleach, Initial D, Hellsing. It predated KZread and it was glorious!

If this doesn't include "VD Is For Everybody" ...I need to get back on Grandabook. Also, if I was on Grandabook, I would have suggested that this chart should have been introduced by Thin Lizzy's Yellow Pearl (actually used as a theme tune for Top Of The Pops) Sandy Lee (on her special appearance with the Vibrations, no less) really should have sang that British Eurovision entry (did it win?) _Puppet On A String,_ as sang by Sandie Shaw, in her bare feet! It doesn't surprise me that Pavanned made number 1. We're Oddity Archive fans here! I still think you should have commissioned an artist to craft a SID (version specifically for the C64) of Pavanned for the C64 episode.
The nice thing about Pavanned? You wrote it, so you'll never have to worry about intellectual property issues. ;)
The singer from the lowish quality punk earworm reminds me of what has to be at least one of the ultimate “Did someone actually comment that” sentences from KZread (not just because that singer happens to seem, if not actually be, female): “Basically she makes a reply that makes it sound as (if) she has been masturbating a lot … with a guitar” (misspelling corrected but ellipsis original).
