I think there's a good chance that Imu, Lili, and Joyboy were friends and/or crewmates in the past, but Imu betrayed Joyboy and the ancient kingdom which led to their doom. Imu then assumed control of the world in secret. Lili found out that their friend Imu had betrayed them and was now the secret ruler and she went to confront Imu. Imu then killed Lili and took her sword where it remains in that garden. That would make Imu the ultimate enemy of the reincarnated Joyboy (Luffy)

good idea, i think we misread many features of the one piece world all the time. We now know that the ancient kingdom hat some hightech weapon system like the devild fruits and something we would call DNA splicing to enhance human biology to the point they look like Angels (the seraphim). And we know that some people can hear the "voice of all things". This simply would sound like magic. But what if it is a DNA technic to let people come up at specific points in time which do specific things due to the outer environmental set up in which they were born. That would be a good explanaition for why the government couldn´t get the nika nika no mi in their hands, it wouldn´t show up as the nika nika no mi if it wasn´t paired with the right DNA. I mean how would you explain to a scientist Momos abilitys to COMMAND zunesha or Shirashoshis ability to COMMAND the sea kings? So that means you need specific DNA from specific people to activate weapon systems and technology. I mean then your point would stick out, because they couldn´t end their final plan to rule the world. Lily was like "no, we need a ruler, so f your plan, i´m gonna rule and you can die." Now she waits for the perfect timing which will be the final battle to fulfill it.

Sabo did actually see Imu.. he mentioned that in chapter 1060 when he was communicating with dragon before the destruction of lulucia. His words were "i thought that there was no king of the world. But the throne wasn't empty. I saw..!" -then line cut off

Oda purposefully didn't let Vivi join the crew. Although SHE really wanted to join them and they also asked her too. Vivi said that she will join them if they meet in the future ❤.

People trying to turn joyboy/lili into a love triangle doesn't feel very one piece to me.

Weird you didn't point out that 19 swords are around the throne and one is in the garden when we first see Imu. I think Imu killed Lily right in that garden and put her sword in the ground and now he's full of regret and that's why the Vivi poster is untouched. Lufy and Blackbeard reminds Imu of Joyboy and someone else we don't know yet and Shiraoshi is a descendant of fishermans (joyboy allies). Now, lufy and blackbeard from Imu perspective must die (ripped poster), Shiraoshi must be captured (poster is intact but with a sword on it and as we saw it's been freed) and Vivi has a special treatment lurking for her (Poster untouched and he carries it with him).

because lily and kuma probably had the same devil fruit. I don't think there's any other way to precisely transport Ponegliffs to certain locations without Kuma's devil fruit. She must've been the first owner :) and that would be her great 'mistake'. Well.. Don't think Lily and Imu had a child at all since it was Lily's younger brother who ended up ruling. But I do feel like some sort of relationship (likely unrequited by the end) was between them. Imu said her spreading the ponegliffs was a 'mistake' when it was very much intentional, sounds like Imu is still be in denial of what she did. When Imu heard that her name had the D. in it that must've really pissed them off because it confirms she was not on the government's side at the end.

She didn't keep just his straw hat in the vault, she kept Joy Boy's entire body there.

First time of hearing of Lili and now community going crazy and a ton of theories about her and Imu. The hype is real. OP is awesome and so unique imo. Such an epic story/manga/anime. Every chapter is super exciting now and I'm dying to get more of the story. What a time! Amiright

I had a similar theory until you said “their kid became the ruler of Alabasta” which is stated to be not true it was her little brother. My theory is that Imu is a husband/lover and that they only looked at the picture because she looked familiar. Or maybe even that the picture of Vivi is what she once looked like and the immortality operation did not keep her looking youthful. The D. was written to the people of Alabasta for them to remember their oath to bring back the Ancient Kingdom for which the Nefertari family had ties to. Nefertiti in ancient Egyptian history was the leader of Egypt at its peak with her husband and introduced a state religion based around the Sun. Her reign ended with the fall of Amarna and relocation of the capital to Thebas which sounds a bit like the relocation to Marijois.

Just something extra. God Valley is probably related to the Valley of Kings in Egyptian history where Nobles of the New Kingdom were buried in their tombs as well as their wealth which might include “Devil Fruits”. What if Rocks went there to rob the graves of those nobles to steal these fruits and that is how Linlin found Kaidos fruit. The WG stopped it because the most powerful/rare fruits were on that island and Roger helped because his crew had no DF users so maybe the fruits weren’t important to him and he was promised gold. Also ending up with Shanks in one of the chests.

What if Lili was Toki? They do look similar after all, and like you said, she wanted to go to Wano. Also,if she knew about Joyboy’s return, that could explain her sending the Akazaya Nine 20 years ahead, and she also married Oden who learned of Joyboy’s eventual return as well. It’s a possibility but I haven’t thought it out that much

The problem with Vivi being Imu’s descendant is that Cobra stated that when queen Lili went missing her younger brother took up the throne in her place.

I like the last theory only because Oda loves taking bits and pieces from other famous stories. And Narnia fits that perfectly. The final war in the first Narnia had soldiers encased in stone. And as back up, they released those soldiers. The same could happen in One Piece

Vivi can't be a direct descendant of Lili's (and potentially Imu's) potential "secret child", Cobra literally just stated that Lili's brother took over ruling Alabasta when Lili never returned. Also, my first thought while reading these revelations were "Imu could be Lili if Imu has been alive since the void century" but your theories sound solid too. Also, lol sorry for my edits, yes Sabo must have seen Imu on the throne. Because before Lulucia was destroyed Sabo was about to tell Dragon something about the empty throne (which is most likely the revelation that someone actually sits on it)

Remember how Doflamingo said if he had the OP-OP-fruit he‘d rule the world. Maybe Imu is in fact in Lilys body. That explains why she has the 20th sword with herself. Now the question remains why Lilys body? I think it has to do with Uranus. Maybe it’s linked to her body like neptune with Sherahoshi. Thats why she wants Vivi dead because it’d be way to risky for two people to control Uranus. And also that’s why i don‘t think Law could ever die right now. Think about it - He is way to long in the story and also the secret of his devil fruit is known. Maybe it’s not to make someone immortal but more to make someone mortal who gained the immortality in the past.

But didn't Sabo see Imu? I'm not sure but I think it was stated Sabo saw/said something like "there is someone in the empty throne"?

If what people are speculating about Imu being Queen Lili is true, why would she pen a letter back to arabasta seemingly explaining something about what D. means or will do? It could just be trying to throw arabasta off, but that wouldn’t make much sense cause if she mentioned anything about D. then it would draw attention to the people of D, which would inherently would be bad for the WG. I do like the theory of Imu being Queen Lili but it would certainly raise some questions. Also if Queen Lili is supposed to look like Vivi I find it hard to see Luffy beating up a Vivi look alike. Imo I think it’s more likely that Lili was assassinated (we “know” that they view the Nefertari as traitors) but was able to pen a letter back home before said assassination. It could be a good parallel to the title of the chapter “The Attempted Murder Of A Celestial Dragon”. As we know, Lili would’ve been a celestial dragon had she ascended to Mariejois with the 19 other family’s. And because she got the letter back to Arabasta it could be seen as an attempt to silence Lili by assassination but just that, “an attempt” cause even tho she ended up dying they were unable to silence her. (which we don’t know if she died or not, we just know she never returned to Arabasta). I’ve also seen people throwing around the Amazon Lily theory about Lili being the founder of it, these could go hand in hand if Lili had escaped the assassination attempt and somehow ended up on the island of Amazon Lily before it was Amazon Lily. However, I find this to be unlikely, but still possible. Truthfully tho, whatever Oda has planned is probably better than any theory we as a community can come up with.

This video seems to be almost inline with my theory as well.... Giving me some more confidence in my theory. My first misunderstanding made me think that the "letter" Cobra was speaking about is the letter (alphabet) "D" that is coined by Lily, may be as the sign for the revolution. But then I realised the letter doesn't mean the "Alphabet", but the letter as in. "mail"... Which contains the information about the "will of D". Anyway coming to my theory, I'm copy pasting my theory that I wrote elsewhere... Here. My theory is that Nefertari Lily is somehow related to Imu-sama (friend, acquaintance, ex-friend, enemy, may be romantic interest, ally etc...) and I personally believe Lily is NOT imu-sama. And the fact that Oda deliberately ended the chapter when Imu-sama spoke one word and didn't finish the sentence... May be something like... "Lily..., That's a name I didn't hear for a long time... " Or something like that... Presumably. And It feels deliberately suspicious on Oda's side to confuse fans whether Imu = Lily. But its too obvious and I think there is more to it. And also it is safe to assume imu sama has op op fruit immortality.... Now coming to the disappearance of Lily... there is a possibility that Lily was attacked on her way to Alabasta and Lily escaped into the calm belt where it's hard to reach (assuming navy is not as big and developed as it is today, as world government has not yet formed )... and Lily might've established or is one of the ancestors of Amazon Lily. Especially because Nefertari Lily's official Spelling doesn't follow the same convention as "Lili" like "Vivi" or "Titi" but its "Lily". So, that means the name "Lily" must be important and coincidentally we have an island named "Amazon Lily" in the calm belt. Now, before all this, Lily might've written a letter probably having details about the "will of D", and has passed it down through generations in Alabasta through her Brother who took over the kingdom. And this letter has been very secretive apparently.. and only the top monarchs of Alabasta in the lineage knew about it... Like a secret mission, which means the world government and imu-sama might've directly enforced laws against the knowledge of void century in Alabasta also during the time of formation of World GOvernment. ANd the apparent contents of the secret heriditary letter.. refers to the fact that Nefertari Lily did surely have the knowledge about the "will of D" ... which is connected to the ancient kingdom and the "Dawn of the world"... as mentioned by Roger and Pedro. Now, interestingly, Alabasta has also been protecting the Poneglyph ... and Poneglyphs are the product of Kozuki clan of Wano... meaning, Lily and Wano did have some connections... And interestingly, When Robin told King Cobra that it seems the Alabasta was not protecting the poneglyph but is seemingly tried to hide it from the world... Cobra was shocked... "how could it be..." this suggests that he had different version of information (mostly through that secret letter from Lily) ... and what RObin deduced is based on the signs as a result of World Government's coverup. Since, World Govt is unaware of the secret letter, they thought the knowledge is lost in Alabasta... Which CObra reveals to be otherwise to the 5 elders in the latest chapter.. to probably instigate imu-sama.. And Here comes my second theory. Lily might also be an ally of Joyboy who is related to Wano, fishmen island, Zou... (May be, Lily might also be a D clan member) and as she lived in the same time and Alabasta has a Poneglyph, meaning in pre-World government era, there used to be a continous relation between Alabasta and wano or Else who else would bring the Poneglyph to Alabasta under World GOvernment's nose.. after it is formed. Now, coincidently, Toki is also from 800 years ago, same time period as Lily. So, Toki might've been a confidant of Lily, whom Lily might've entrusted with some info or some purpose or something... to carry on forward in future and deliver it in Wano. (Delivering it in different time period might be because of some event happening in wano at that time, which might make it difficult ... may be walls coming up or drowning or doing it secretly without world govt's notice, or something similar reason as Why Roger thought they went too early, ... etc.... to preserve and pass-on whatever is entrusted to Toki). And that secret is still in Wano somewhere, even may be in Oden's Journal, as Toki might've told Oden about it. May be that's what is related to the mission, as she was probably the reason who removed pages from the Oden's Journal and his them somewhere in Wano, as to not to let the secrets into the wrong hands, when Oden was killed. May be that's why she stayed back without going to future herself, to fulfill that mission. That might be the reason why TOki when she first saw Oden, told him that she came from the past and she is in search of Wano.. and she has never been to wano before and she doesn't know her homeland, but her ancestory is from wano. This suggests that she was somewhere other than wano (possibly with Lily), may be her ancestors shifted from Wano to Alabasta during the time of Lily. THese things add up... somehow... After making sure of sending the info or something with Toki to Wano, and the secret letter to Alabasta.. Princess Lily might've went into incognito in the calm belt at Amazon Lily.. escaping the Marines in its initial days. Let's see if my theory holds up... This first time i feel my theory feels more cohesive... And seeing parts of similar ideas in different versions of themselves, proposed by different people in the fandom makes me more confident. Edit: That "Binks Sake - Dr.stone Mero mero no mi" makes sense, a way too much. Or something on those lines... As "Binkusu no sake wo todoke ni yuku yo" literally means "Let's go to deliver Binks Sake (somewhere)". May be the mero mero beam petrification is a possibility, but "Delivering Bink's Sake" seems to be way too much important for the end game. PS: for Toki to send Lily to future, she either has to bring Lily to future time, at some point as she time jumped multiple times into future from 830 yrs ago to 30 yrs ago. But the latest she would've brought Lily is 30 years ago before she met Oden. And before she met Oden probably Toki and Lily got separated and then Toki met Oden. But this seems too far fetched... and doesn't seem plausible.

A comment i wrote under some yt videos, an my pesonal theory + headcanon: "I dont get the conclusion of all people on YT that Imu is Lili. It seems way more like that Lili is a seperate entitiy who knew Imu personally, and because of this information and her refusal of becoming a celestial dragon which would have kept her alive, she was killed off, so that really no one knows about Imus existence. Plus, that wouldn't function at all. Imu must have been around even long before the World Government was founded, in order to gain power and people who will aid you, which created the system and its followers, with the 20 founding kingdoms. We know that Arabasta was one of these 20 founding kingdoms, and now we know about its representantive 800 years ago, Queen Lili. Who helped to found the world government. But just like i said, there must have been a separate entity who pulled the strings before, during and after the world government was founded. Lili was merely someone Imu must have known, and because she knew stuff that she must not bring out of the land of gods, she was killed off. Not to forget the letter, which surely was something that goes against the will of the World Government. Which Imu who you say could be Lili, would have never written. It makes also zero sense why she would go against the will to become a celestial dragon, and go back home ruling over her kingdom, but then deciding not going home and become who Imu is today, someone who stands above all. Who did suggest this position in the first place? No one of the other 19 kingdoms would have suggested that, because that wasn't their plan or their wish. So this strengthens the theory that Imu is someone separate who existed even before this and arranged the creation of the world government. A head canon of mine, if the 20 families aren't supposed to know about Imu, but there are 5 celestial dragons who do know about him or her, that would either mean that the 20 kings and queens did indeed know about Imu but didn't pass down this knowledge, or there were more people who supported Imu even before this whole plot with the creation of the world government came to be. Which would also mean, that Lili was only killed because she would have passed down this knowledge, which then also means that she would have been kept alive if she didn't decide to leave"

If you take a moment to look at every Imu appearance, you'll see that he/she is very small, like a child. The poster, the Den den Moshi, the Swords. Even when he/she sat on the throne, its look like a child size is sit there.

My theory: Lili = Zunesha Lili owns the mythical zoan fruit model 'Zunesha' making her the OnePiece version of 'Ganesha", a Hindu Elefant Goddess. She had to betray her Love/ Nakama Joyboy in order to protect her own kingdom from a cleansing through Imu's powers. That's why she refused to stay as a celestial dragon and began her self-sentenced punishment of endlesly walking the see. Zunesha might be her awakend form, allowing her to become 800+ years old as it's cleary visable, that she's indeed very old by now. Also having the mink tribe on her back might also be some kind of protecting of Joyboy former allies. I'm assuming that Imu's laser powers only work for stationary targets. Therefore the location of fismen island right below the Red Line might also be very intentional. I was fully onboard with the lili is zunesha theory yesterday till someone mentioned that zunesha is over 1000 years old but its still a fun theory with some copium it could work if oda lied about zunesha's age

I think Lily could be IM because of the flower Lily of Valley which has two other names which explains the link with the Holy Land as the flower is also known as Mary's Tears or May Bells as May comes from the name Mary or Marie which sums up the Holy Land of Mariejois going on with my Lily of the Valley theory I think that the lost island of God Valley was an extension of Mariejois as a country

Mariejois, May Rejoice, Marie Joys, Mary Joy, Merry Joy, Going Merry, Joy Boy, there really is a lot of wordplay around words that can sound like variations Mary/Merry and Joy/Rejoice huh? Plus add in the whole Mother of Nature/Mother of the Sea angle as well as Joyboy/Sun God Nika, and the Holy Land of Mariejois built around the Sunlight Tree Eve, could be named because it was (or was intended to be) the land belonging to Mary of Joy.

Remember in Law's flashback his father told him his middle name of Water was taboo much like how IM as ruler of the One Piece world is I believe that Law is related to IMU as Imu spelt backwards is Umi which means sea a large body of water and with the introduction of the ancient royal Lily Nefertari Lillies can be many flowers including the water lily which strengthens my view that Law is related to IM.

The thing that's wrong is , in Japanese UMI is written with 2 katakana letters U-MI so it's backwards will be MI-U not IMU and oda plays with japanese words not romaji versions of those

I love the idea that Lili was a mythical zoan fruit user that lost their mind to their fruits will upon awakening. In that way she isn't Lili, nor knew her. Imu just took the keys to the human mobile named Lili, and let her ripe!

One thing is for sure. Oda doesn't like love stories. He mentioned it before, and it is obviously portrayed all throughout the series.

What if Lili IS Zunesha? Like a giant elephant fruit user/ancient weapon maybe, punished to walk the ocean (as she is walking in the ocean and is weakened by it, she can't turn back to normal) for whatever reason? Let's say fell in love with Joy boy and once his side got defeated she didn't want to be part of the "winners" side. Additional plot, IMU also loved Joyboy (that's why she keeps the hat) but they had such a different opinion on freedom that they were enemies at the end of the war. Vivi may also be identical to Lili and that's why Imu keeps her photo

What I think is that the straw hats could be similar to the crew of Joyboy. Maybe the current members are related to Joyboy's band before void century. I feel like whatever history the world government has erased is destined to reoccur. There is this famous speech from Roger: Inherited will and people dreams can not be stopped. Idk for sure if Vivi’s ancestor had a history with Amazon Lily since we don't know enough to support this theory. But I do wonder if this will inspire Vivi & Hancock to become friends, and give the Kuja Tribe an even more important role in the final saga. However, the only way for this to be confirmed is if Amazon Lily has similar to the Minks having a history with the Kouzuki clan from Wano, such as a special Poneglyph or a symbol of the Nefertari family.

When I read your comment, I quickly went to see the episode and also the Manga (chapter 220) and saw the picture of the woman. However, the ship in question that fell, Robin examined the remains and by her estimate it is 200 years old, so it couldn't be Lili since she dissappear 800 years ago

Lily being founder of Kuja tribe actually makes a lot of sense, first of all the name of the island of course, all members of Kuja are named after flowers or flowering plants, just like Lily. And lastly the surname Nefertari is the name of real Egyptian queen and it's translated as "the most beutiful one", diving even deeper, Nefertari had a nicknate - Nefertari Meritmut and Meritmut means "the beloved one of the goddess Mut" (Mut was one of the primal Egyptian deities). So, her name and her surname heavely indicate a connection to Amazon Lily and the nickname of the Queen she has her surname after is pointing towards her being beloved by the goddess (god? Imu? ;p)

Maybe its like pudding split personality, 3rd eye tribes maybe have a split personality when they awakens it so maybe lily was in love with joyboy but in the end she actually betrayed him and now she regretted it show she was hiding in the shadows and punishing herself just by living alone the whole life or she is just so angry that she wanna destroy everything (every joyboy) as he rejected lily for maybe a amazonian or merfolk queen !

To add some extra weight behind the love triangle theory… Oda loves to draw inspiration from ancient mythologies and history. If the love triangle theory holds true then we may be able to later find parallels between the Trojan War and this arc. Greek and Egyptian history is very intertwined (Egypt being the inspiration behind Alabasta and Ancient Greece/Rome has a lot of similarities between the World Government.) Will be interesting watching this all unfold.

I think it would be really interesting if Imu is a descendent of Lili. Maybe their real name is Nefertari Imu. It would also make sense why Imu had a picture of Vivi because Vivi is where Imu would be right now if Lili did go back to Alabasta. Lilies also mean “mother” or “motherhood” and it would make sense if that was Lili's meaning because isn't the theory that Imu is named "Imu" because it's Umi, japanese for "sea" backwards. And Imu is being thought of as "Mother Sea," like Gaia is "Mother Earth." Because a big concept in mythology around the world is the primordial sea so Oda could be pulling Imu’s inspiration from that. I also think Imu being Vivi’s distant cousin makes Vivi even more likely to become a full-time member of the Straw Hats.

What if the love curse of Amazon Lily was created by Imu's devil fruit? If Luffy's fruit brings the dawn and lets him realize his dreams, what if Imu's brings the Dusk and lets them realize nightmares/curses? If Lili escaped to and formed Amazon Lily, Imu could've put a curse on her that stuck through the centuries so that she and her kin could love no other, which is why they banned men, because they knew about the curse.

Vivi will be uranus able to control air kings (like sea kings) and will be introduced to Ancient air kings soon (possibly by Morgans) , will be supported by lunarian tribe just like fishmen and minks tribe for other ancient weapons. Its already been foreshadowed as pell and karoo serves under vivi (both being birds). The 3 ancient weapons might be vivi , momonuske and obviously shirahoshi commanding air kings , zunesha and ancient seakings.

After seeing Sai & Leo doing an amazing feat that would make Emperor Luffy proud, I now want to know if we'll end up seeing other Grand Fleet members do some amazing things in the near future!

Hey Ohara, he had to see imu since he said someone was sitting on the empty throne when reporting back to dragon right before the island got destroyed

This chapter make me realise that one piece might not be a revenge story against world government but it is a love story of broken hearts. Maybe both lily and imu was in love with joyboy but joyboy choose someone else that made imu better and betray him. After all chapter 1 starts with a new romance down 800 years in future.

The thing is I just realized they have to cast a voice actor for imu now and with that we can at least make a really good guess what gender she/he is so maybe so that the anime doesn’t „spoil“ it soon imus gender etc will be revealed

At first, I thought you were going with the Toki may have actually been Lili idea. Which to me sounds like there could be something there. I may be forgetting something, but they both have blue hair, Toki ran away from the past due to being chased, what if it was the coalition of 19 nations coming after her due to not wanting to live in the "Holy Land".

i guess toki was lili as both are from void century and lily suddenly disappeared as she came into future plus the hair colour of vivi and toki matches perfectly showing that both of them are sharing a same family

I think about the fact that alabasta is like a dessert, and the queen Lili could be associated with Cleopatra

What if Lili is Vivi, she became a baby (her memories were sealed) with the help of Bonny's devil fruit and was sent to the future with the help of Toki's devil fruit. Imu did hold a sword in the garden with the butterfly 🦋, and Vivi's picture wasn't shredded like Blackbeard, Shirahoshi & Luffy's. Chapter 1084 mentioned the late Queen of Alabasta Lili, having a younger brother who took the throne after her sudden death during her voyage.

I personally think that Lili and Imu both loved Joyboy, and Boa Hancock is the reincarnation of Lili since Luffy is Joyboy’s reincarnation, it explains why Boa fell in love with Luffy as well, it could also explain why Imu destroyed Luffy’s bounty poster. I am wondering what role Imu will play in Luffy’s journey. Great videa and theory btw!

So many theories off this chapter.. I suspect that Lili may have been the sacrifice for Imu's immortality.

First theory. Whoever came from the past definitely modeled a straw hat after joy boys. And gave it to Roger who was her hope, who gave it to shanks, who gave it to luffy. Or crazy opposite theory.
