Why did he say he didnt want the diamonds if he did? All he had to say was he wanted his investment doubled and the diamonds and he would have gotten both at the end. He added an unnecessary backstab which caused him to lose both.

Well i think 1. Asking for 250M diamonds and doubling the cost of the drill seems like an unreasonable ask (I think the drill was like a few million), and 2. He mainly wanted to get back at them from the first movie. And Toulour also wanted payback from the second movie.

Actually there was no second tunnel boring machine(drill) the drills both cut through and meet about halfway through. The second drill drilled itself into the earth and committed "mechanical suicide".Ive seen many documentaries.
