OBX Beach Driving-How to drive on the beach without getting stuck

I have been driving on the beaches around the Outer Banks for a while. I am going to tell you how to safely drive on the beach. We will look at the safety gear that you will want to bring with you. You want to make sure you have a 4x4 vehicle. By following the Mayerial In This video I have been fortunate not to have gotten stuck You may have noticed the tow strap has never been unwrapped. Some people will air down to 15 psi. Outer banks beach
The OBX has miles of beaches to explore and the best way to get away from the crowds is to take a drive down the beach. Many towns require beach permits I will provide links below.

If you drive on the beach for several days straight, do you wash every day or just at the end of your trip? Thanks!

In theory yes you should wash as soon as you can. In practice I sometimes skip the wash. If you are from the north, you probably don’t wash it after driving in sand/salt when it snows. I know I didn’t.

Can you drive all the way to Virginia beach, using the beach as the road? It looks like you could make it without a problem, unless of course you get into trouble out there. Then you are on your own.

@@resistthegrind I looked closely at Google earth and saw a barrier, which looks like long pipes or poles of some kind at what must be the NC -VA border. There is an opening in the barrier but I can't tell if a car/truck could get through. I'm going to take my bike and check it out since our rental house is 9.8 miles up the beach from Corolla. It does not look like a car can get through the barrier and I'm not sure you are allowed to drive on Virginia's beaches.

You cannot drive into Virginia from NC on the beach. The barrier is a series of large poles driven deep into the sand, additionally there are steel cables and a steel net to prevent you from driving on the VA side which is National Seashore. You can however walk through and the National seashore had zero people on it when I was there 9-2 to 9-9 2023. It's absolutely beautiful on the Va side but the NC side is just as nice but with plenty of people.
Can you share where this was you were driving & where you recommend to go?

I love going to the ramp by Oregon inlet. It is fairly easy, this time of year it is less busy. I also enjoy driving up to Corolla to see the wild horses.
