Ive been driving on the beaches of the Outer Banks for 35 years. I got stuck when I was a kid. I have run diesels for years now and I have never had an issue. I can run full on but Im not a fan of even saying it. I air down to 18. it's so much more fun and you never have to worry about getting stuck.

This is one heck of a compliment, thank you!!! I only know because of how many bad situations I've experienced in the past hahah. Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to comment!

Nonsense. I learned from people on the Outer Banks back in the '70s. It's never been a secret for anyone who has bothered to ask.
Agree with another comment… knobby tires hurt more than help in soft sand. Disagree with Chap MX about airing down… time well spent to take tires down to 20psi or less.

I def. agree and I didn't have sand in mind when I got the tires. I would totally go with something else if that was its sole intended purpose! And yes, always BEST to air down for the best performance, hands down. Its just not always required to prevent getting stuck. But if you want to take the time, 100% agree, its the best option. Thanks for commenting your honest info! Def want as much of that as I can get.
Greetings from Ocracoke Island NC. Don't be a clown, air down. Your truck will thank you and so will everyone else when you stop plowing your way over the ramp and down the beach.

Great video, thanks for the info. We’re headed to hatteras this weekend in my Cummins. It’s been ages since I drove on sand, and never in a heavy diesel before. Very helpful!

I see the VA tags, must be OBX. My beach as well. Lost of experience with better beach equipped gas trucks, looking to take my first Diesel. Been kinda skerred. Lol. So from a fairly experienced, been stuck before guy... you had some great tips!!!

Hey John! Yes you are correct!! I’m so glad it helped some man. I hope y’all have a great time and some great weather. We just got back from another trip down there on Friday. Always sad to leave! Y’all have fun!
Good tips, thank you. Definitely air down the tires, especially on soft sand. It makes a huge difference. Also FYI, You can get a good tire deflator that removes the valve core for around $25 (i have One made by Jaco, it works great). Lets you air down all 4 tires in about 3-4 minutes total. Well worth it!

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! I always forget about those tire deflators and then remember when I see them at Frisco R&G for like $80. I need to remember to check the Jaco ones out! That'd be a life saver! Take care and see you on the beach!
I used 35 mud grapplers and had no issues whatsoever and i mean the beach was really bad. My only issue i had was trans temp was constantly getting at 185 degrees. So i kept on having to turn truck off to get temps down.

Mud grapplers ain't no joke! I had those on a previous truck, sounded like a helicopter haha. I'd def. try to take it easy and run the truck in a lower gear manually so its not constantly trying to shift. Other than that, could go with an external trans cooler. That's def. a common upgrade to fix that issue. Thanks for checking it out!

Thank you so much that means a lot to me!!!! Really appreciate it !!
I'm going in Sept and I have zero plans to air down. I drive in tons of snow, and even drive out to muddy goose fields hundreds of yards off the road. I refuse to believe this is that much more difficult. Stick to the hard pack when you can, and keep your speed up when leaving the beach to get to a house. If I have to air down I will but I'm worried that it might mess up my TPMS and I don't need any problems with that.

I hear you!! I hope you have a great time and I agree, you don't always need to air down. Really, it just depends on the situation. I'll say that it does always improve the ride but sometimes its just not worth the time it takes to do. TPMS sometimes can be more trouble than its worth, IMO. Enjoy ya'lls trip down there!
Good job on this one brah😎

Do you put it in 4x4 and lock the hubs??
@TheChapMX

Hey man! On my truck, it has automatic locking hubs so I don’t have to get out and lock them but if you have manual hubs, absolutely.
1st gear and 4high? You like that better than 4low?

I do personally. 10mph in 4lo is screaming compared to 4hi.
