OBS Ford F150 Walk Around! Adventure Overland Build

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the Video I should have started with! Here is a detailed walk around of my 1995 OBS Ford F150. It's a bit of a hybrid build for overlanding (really, just camping with my family), rock crawling, and just all-around adventuring!

    Your truck build is coming along nicely. I am looking forward to seeing more of your adventures in the old '95. I had a '96 single cab 150 4X4 with the 5.0, I gave it to a friend now I wish I had kept it...oh well. On a side note it's great to see you spending quality time with your son. Keep that '95 and your cameras rolling!

    Thank you! I agree completely! I went back and forth for a while with having the tent on the truck because I thought taking the trailer was a bit of added work (speed was important to me so I could take my boys camping at the drop of a hat on a friday afternoon, we go 1 - 2 weekends a month) but, like you mentioned, most of the time we liked to set up camp then go explore in the truck!

    Great video really helps me out on my obs build. Ideas and parts are not as easy to find as more modern trucks so appreciate the video. The rattle can paint job looks pretty good. Thinking about doing that to mine as well. How many cans did you go through? I have the same body style but in the 250 version. Need to change out my suspension as it’s a rough ride off road.

  • @MisfitOBS

    @MisfitOBS

    Thanks! There are a ton more details and nuances that went into the build then I could cover in the video, some of which probably wouldn't be very interesting to most. Its not terribly difficult to make a rig off-road capable, the challenge is making on off-road rig ride great going down the highway! took me a ton of trial and error because I found that most shops out there don't fully understand the TTB front end (even though they think they do) Maybe I'll do another down the road. Man, I wish I could tell you how many cans I used.. I messed up several panels several times and I feel like I was constantly running to Walmart to buy more paint, I lost track at some point. I think it came out to an average of 1 can of primer, and 2 cans of color per panel. (smaller panels used less, larger panels used more, that was the average). I also opted to do a UV resistant matte clear coat so an addition 2 cans per panel of that. A properly valved set of shocks and some leafs that have a softer spring rate will definitely help with your ride. My wife always mentions that my truck rides nicer going down the road than her 2015 Explorer Sport! haha.

    Thanks for the info. Painting my truck will probably be last so I may just pay to get it done. Right now redoing the inside which is challenging as it’s a daily driver. Because it’s the 250 it has leaf springs which makes for a rough ride even with the reverse shackle kit. Going to upgrade the shocks soon so hopefully that helps. Not willing to spend $5k+ to upgrade to a mid travel suspension. Going to post soon some of the work I’m doing on the truck. Not a tone of content on obs truck upgrades so nice to see your content.

They stated fox doesn’t make shocks for our year but yet you have them on your truck. Looking for the same shock set up as you but with 4 smoothies in the front as I do have dual shocks and not one like yours, then 2 reservoir shocks in the rear. Thank you! Haha, you could make a pretty compelling argument on why to never put a 302 in a full size rig (especially the old pushrod 302)😇 and there'd be a million and one reasons why you'd be correct! However, the 302 is a great fit for me for a couple reasons. I'm actually planning on getting out on the trail early next week; I'll put a video together with couple reasons someone might want to consider the 302 and answer the rest of your question in person.. kinda.. on video anyway, about why I went with a 95 F-150. Stay tuned and I will drop a link to the video here when it's up so you get a notification. Thanks for watching!

    Just posted a video addressing why I chose this rig and why the 5.0 is a pretty good fit for me. I didnt address F250/350s directly in the video but for off-roading, you have much softer suspension options from the get-go without having to get too custom. The f150 runs coils in the front where the 250/350s have leaf springs up front, I like the ride of coils better for off-road. • @MisfitOBS

    @MisfitOBS

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching! It's a semi-float Dana 60 out of a 1999 Van E-250. The Semi float gives you the flexibility of lots of different axle shaft options. Semi-float rear ends are great options for jeeps, bronco's and half-ton trucks so you don't have to buy a completely new set of rims or swap out your front axle to match the 8 lug variants. Some people will argue the the full-floats are far superior, and they are probably right.. but I have been running this semi-float for 15 years with 0 issues or breakages.. 35's are a non-issue for this axle, no matter how I abuse it.

    Haha. Yeah, mine was a similar story, I had a shop meter my Mass Airflow Sensor and it turned out it was bad but not triggering my check engine light. I replaced it, the TPS sensor, installed an MSD distributor cap and rotor, new spark plugs and wires, a BBK throttle body and did a seafoam treatment to the manifold. Mileage and power jumped up immediately. Also, I drive like an old man..😇

    It may be worth checking the voltage output on the TPS, it is possible for it not to be throwing a code but set optimally..It's also worth mentioning, because I forgot to in the video, but I have also replaced the throttle body with a BBK 56MM and set my timing at about 14 degrees TDS. I run premium fuel, which many will say is a waist, but I did get enough of a milage bump to compensate for the extra cost and It did make that 302 a bit more "spunky". My truck is also running a MAF sensor as opposed to a MAP system. 1994 and later trucks were equipped this way. MAF seems to take advantage of upgrades a little more efficiently. Not saying that you will get the same results, just possible reasons for the varying results..

    @@princeali2555 , thats a tough one. I'm not very familiar with the clearances on the 2WD versions of this truck. My guess (and it is a guess, so make sure you verify before listening to me) is around a 31" tire before you have rubbing issues. My reasoning is that I ran a 31" tire on this truck before it was lifted and had room for a bit bigger if I had too, with the 2WD being a bit lower in the front, my assumption would be 31" would clear but not with a lot of room for error. Maybe someone with me 2WD experience will chime in and correct me if I'm off base. Thanks again for watching!
