My favorite line from the episode, “What about his sister? She’s just as important as he is.” I feel like during the OT, Luke was treated as the most important of the two. The thing I love about this Leia renaissance that we’ve seen in the ST and in other books and comics is that Leia is just as important, if not more important, in some cases.

100%. I can't stop thinking about that line. Leia, while always incredible, definitely wasn't as defined as Luke as being crucially important in this fight. When, and no disrespect because I love Luke, Leia is almost more integral. She never stopped. Not through the pain of losing her son, emotionally then physically. She didn't stop after Han. She never once questioned her purpose. Without Leia, the Rebellion loses. No question. She's so wildly important and I'm so moved they're finally acknowledging that while being so true to the character.

Leia has always been important. I don't think any fan denies that. But at the same time, I know we need to be sensitive to the fact that some fans will favor one of the twins over the other. So yes, elevate Leia's relevance to the story alongside Luke. But let's remember they are both fictional (not historical) characters.

@@joelrolston8736 She was not written as important in the first movies... and just because characters are fictional it doesn't mean it doesn't mater otherwise film critics would lose their jobs and no one would be able to call a movie bad because it doesn't matter if it has inconsistencies or bad scenes since it's fiction and not history.

@@necrona Yeah, you only really get shown that it's Leia who is the "another" that is of equal importance to Luke in Return, outside of that she's important for her own reasons but not as a "this character can be as much, if not more, than Luke" in the OT. I have really enjoyed the increased focus on her. We have Luke's story, give us more Leia.

One of the younglings in the order 66 scene was black. I'm calling it now, that was the Third Sister when she was a child, and she's on a revenge mission against Obi Wan because his training of Anakin led indirectly to order 66 being executed.

The third sister is old, the kids we're probably 6-8 years old, Only 10 years passed since then so, the third sister has to be 16 to 18 years old and she dosent look like it, idk, she looks like 25 to me, to old to be that child

It really got me just how hard Obi-wan took the end of the war and the fall of Anakin. His cold reply of "we lost....." Was a gut punch given how his character was in the clone wars and how much he believed in the Jedi order

i think that's why his attempt to commune with Qui Gon failed becuz somewhere in the decade of seclusion spending countless times ignoring the injustices surrounding him like his co-worker who got cheated or the young jedi on the run, he stopped believing in the Jedi code and even himself. Owen was kinda right to protest Luke's training cuz at this point 'Old Ben' is more hermit than Jedi Master who hasn't held a saber or used the force in years

@@joeg6478 love the amazing tie in with the cosmic force even though is not directly mentioned as when Yoda learned about it in Clone Wars. But yeah he sounded so broken when he was asking if Qui-gan was there, so glad to have McGregor back in this role

They actually did not de-age Jimmy Smits for this series. In truth, they aged him *up* for Rogue One by adding the gray in his hair.

I like what Hector said though about the transition to “old Ben”, how he’s so much more aloof and just at peace. That is a clear transition between the actors that just fits with the character of Obi-Wan! LOVE IT.

I'm like Agustin, I've got a surprising amount of nostalgia for the prequels that I never expected. That "Previously On..." they made was the perfect encapsulation of the prequels' emotion.

Leia is perfect casting. If they get young Luke right those kids have work for life

When she defiantly yells, "my father will rescue me!" that line was so well delivered cuz you can hear the slight stutter in her voice that she's on the verge of tears but musters a brave face despite her fear, not of the kidnapper but of being in that situation. surprisingly nuanced performance @17:54

"My father will send an army!" Nah, he's got something a lot better than an army.

I'm sure that the leather belt the jawa wanted to sell him (found in the dune sea) is actually his belt from his Jedi robes!

I liked how these two episodes did something unexpected where they focused more on young Leia. Hasn’t been done really. Seeing her with her family was a nice shift. Obi Wan has been one of my favorite Star Wars characters too 👍.

A great start to a story we've waited a long time for! Kudos to Ewan McGregor, showing so much pain and sorrow in his face and movements. Loving it all!

You guys are so right about Obi-wan's character. He's at the bottom trying to hide from failure and he needed that push from Bail Organa to get up. Get up and fight!

45 years later. The Legacy still hits hard. This was the series that I was waiting for. Good start.

Leia's Mum is a Kiwi actress who is of Māori and Eurpoean descent (Simone Kessell) so as with Boba Fett and Robert Rodriguez, Maoricans are taking over the galaxy!

The actress who plays young Princess Leia is Vivien Lyra Blair. She played Guppy (Shark Boy and Lava Girl's daughter) in We Can Be Heroes the Netflix movie Robert Rodriguez directed.

This episode should have been called: "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope." Carrie Fisher would have loved this. That kid was great.

At one point, Leia was going to get her own series with Jon Favreau as showrunner.

I did the *"Leo DiCaprio"* meme when I saw Hector at the live stream of the SW Celebration, lol.

That was the SMOOTHEST transfer to an ad I have ever seen… bravo.

I'm with Adam, Obi-Wan is the best. I think that's why I like Clone Wars so much. Him and Anakin fighting together is my favorite time in Star Wars.

Oooooohhhhh you guys. I spent the last 5 hours watching reactions of Kenobi and I told myself that the last one I watched would be the last one I watch today and then you guys posted your reaction, so now I gotta watch it. As always, totally worth it!!!

What I love about the first two episodes of this show is how loved Luke and Leia are. I know the Original Trilogy came out years ago and we always knew they were cared for, but I love how they never made the kids feel ostracized. Owen, Beru, Bail, and Breha did everything they could for them to keep them safe.

"My father will come for me! He'll bring a whole army!" Something tells me she's right...just not Bail.

Is it just me, or is Ewan McGregor even channeling a little Sir Alec Guinness? This really bridges his prequel Obi-Wan with Alec Guinness' Ben in a New Hope. Such great nuances.

Such an unexpected twist with (what seems to be) the plot focusing around Leia. This sets up how Leia knew to get the message to him through R2D2 in a New Hope. It also makes the first conversation between Luke and Obi, in a New Hope, a lot more poignant. “You must come with me to Alderaan.” Like, ok, I’ve respected Owens wishes for this long. But now it’s time to begin YOUR journey. Even though I wanted to start this years ago. Great stuff man. Excited for the rest of this series

Not sure if this was intentional or not, but Flea being included may be a callback to RHCP’s breakout hit cover of Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder and Kenobi’s high ground. Too good to be a coincidence!

Kenobi couldn't have taken in the young Jedi because the inquisitors wouldn't have left the planet until he was found. His ship was destroyed (the Jawa talked about scavenging it) so he couldn't leave the planet. Eventually they'd have found him and Kenobi, putting Luke at risk. "Ben" did the only thing he could do.

Gotta say, as a teacher/child care worker, the Order 66 prologue starting without warning realllyyyy raised my anxiety due to current events before the 2 episodes got released. Didn't totally ruin my viewings but I could feel my heart beating quite a bit all the way.

I wouldn't call Ben a "chipper" old man in Ep4 at all. Nor is he relaxed or at peace. Apart from his light-hearted, "Hello there" to R2, the Obi-Wan we see is serious AF. He has strengthened his connection with the Force and his resolve to continue the fight. Once he's called back into action, he's hyperfocused on training Luke because he knows that the son of Anakin is the key to defeating the Emperor.

6:57 it is what Luke said in last Jedi but they have different meanings lol, Obi wan is full of crap because he needs to keep such a low profile, but it’s a half truth because for the time being it is over. where as when Luke says it he literally means forever lol, Obi wan hasn’t given up on the Jedi like Luke initially did, he just doesn’t want to give this guy false hope or risk exposing himself by giving him too much information

@@El_SantoTaco it’s not really mental gymnastics it’s just understanding the scene lol, yeah it resulted in that Jedis death and Obi wan obviously regrets it when he’s sees the guy is dead. but Luke abandoned the idea of the Jedi order in general, Obi wan wouldn’t be there watching Luke or planning to train him if he gave up on the Jedi as a concept lmao.

@@El_SantoTaco I like episode 8 lol, It’s not like I’m some sequel hater that’s nitpicking about Luke. I’m not even saying anything bad about either of them lol. I think it’s awesome that they have a similar line, but I think they’re contrasted. I’m not trying to “squirm” out of anything lmao, Luke did genuinely give up on the Jedi for a while, Obi wan is still doing what’s overall best for the Jedi by watching and training Luke as one of their last hopes, so he still hasn’t given up on the Jedi, I don’t see what’s so wrong about saying that lmao

I agree there are issues with the prequels but there is so much stuff that is classic Star Wars lore and great moments, I still consider them a net positive.
