OBE ATA (Yoruba stew): Easy Step by step guide for beginners (Detailed,2019)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Obe ata is a stew delicacy eaten most commonly prepared and eaten by the western tribe of Nigeria.
I remember growing up the tag used to describe Yoruba soups by my father (amongst other easterners) was "YORUBA NDI OFE MIRIMIRI" meaning Yoruba soups are too watery. Obe Ata is one of the culprit that gave then this title.
Though there are few soups from the Yoruba tribe my father will eat or even still is prepared by my mother. Obe ata is the only yoruba soup that I know my father enjoys so much and so do we in my household especially during the lenten season.
This Yoruba soup/stew is easy to make and straightforward. All you need to do is know the very few simple DON'TS of it. Watch on to catch this few simple tricks.
Full list of ingredient As a Guide
4 red bell pepper
2 habanero pepper
8-10 plum tomatoes
1/2 medium size red onion
2 cooking spoon palmoil~1/4-1/2 cup palmoil
Meat stock (if using)
seasoning cube to taste
Fish(or Meat of choice)
Water.

Thanks a lot. I have been looking for this recipe for Okro but haven’t found one yet on KZread. I’m a Ghanaian but I eat Nigerian food. I ate some of this stew with okro and pounded yam like how the Yoruba people do it. I’m glad I know the difference now. I was confusing it with ofada or buka stew. Thanks again.

I really enjoyed watching you make this stew. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. This can be eaten with plain okra soup or rice right? Was that tatashe you used? I don’t seem to find that in here only bell peppers and it sweetens the stew which I don’t really enjoy. Do you have a trick in finding tatashe? Lol (I feel as tho its a dumb question) Just found your channel and I’m going to support you; hope we become friends😍😍

Awww... I am so glad you found my channel and this was what you have been looking for. Thanks for the support. Sure, we have become friends🤗🤗. Yes you can have it with swallow by pairing it with the plain okro. That is actually what I do... As for finding tatashe my sister, the struggle is real. I dont think I have ever seen her. Sometimes I just imagine that the Italian long pepper is tatashe but surely it is not. Have you see. My :fry your best stew yet video on my channel. The trick I like to use especially if the sweetness of red bell pepper is too much for you is to strike a balance by adding few green bell pepper and /or tomatoes to the stew. I hope I answered your question. Let me know if you have any other question

The authentic taste for this particular stew is from the palm oil. You can use any other oil you want ( preferably flavorless oil e.g canola oil) however, it will not be this same taste as with palm oil and it will just be a regular stew. You didn't say how long you cooked the tomatoes.
@Veeluvstocook
4 жыл бұрын
Time varies according to various cooking conditions e.g the stove top temperature, the amount of acidity in your tomatoes, your level of tolerated acidity level. That said, this is what you should aim at: keep having a taste of the soup while cooking to ensure that the raw taste (tangy/acidity)of the tomatoes mix is gone( or better put, is satisfying to your palate). Once satisfied with the taste your tomato is done for you. I hope this explanation makes sense to you.
