Oase BioStyle Hang On Filter Review - Am I too harsh? (NOT Sponsored)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Oase BioStyle Hang On Filter was the one who had to impress me! and it didn't.. it's a hang on the back filter, very pretty, but also very much just as noisy and imperfect as all the others.

Hi, I had it, really great and silent but that intake plus skimmer part is a shrimp killer. Tried putting some sponges in the area but they got clogged, was a hassle to clean.. I have it as an emergency filter now :) great for bigger fish tanks with no shrimps!

I think its great that you do these reviews. Honest and not sponsored is very rare when i hear people talking about the oase brand. They seem extort the average consumer in order to afford sponsoring soooo many people.

Hi, I don’t doubt their sincerity, but from experience I personally would feel bad for craping on a product I received from what I assume to be nice people.. so the review may be a liiiiitle weeeee bit subjective perhaps 🤭 so I’m gonna keep all my reviews not sponsored and bought myself and anything else just products used in projects, disclaimed ofcourse, but not presented as.. review, that needs to be impartial imo and gifted stuff.. hard to be harsh with them for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am low frequency noise sensitive myself and hence I use Aquaclear HOB filters only and take off the lid, also very useful is to put the tank as closed as possible to a wall and place the HOB filter tucked between the wall and the glass of the tank and wrap the filter with two thick elastic bands and a kitchen towel folded in between the filter and glass; beware to do it as correctly as possible to avoid flooding from HOB filter. Absolutely zero noise! I have three Iwagumi Aqua Ukiyoe tanks in my bedroom and hear a little noise but not much to annoy, I hear more the bubbles at times than the filters

You can completely remove the cartridges. I never, ever use the cartridges that come with filters. It's a marketing thing, you absolutely don't need to buy replacements. I filled mine (I have the 180) with Alfagrog in the bottom, three layers of sponge and a prefilter sponge. My water is clear and tests perfectly, and the filter is silent. 😊

The canister filter sounds like a washing machine. This is probably a long shot, but maybe an intake from another hang on back you have would fit in the Oase...or can you cut the tube on the lower intake?

Hi, the tube is very thick as I discovered so nothing would fit from the filters I know, it’s very atypical. Also I show later on in the video why we should not cut the intake tube 😔

Hey Danny! If you biomaster makes that much noise there is definitely something wrong with it. I have two running in my office and I can't hear them at all. The air purging should also not happen unless the filter (or the inlet!) is nearing time for maintenance. Have you tried drilling more holes in the prefilter tube, and changing to the coarse sponges? It should fix the problem with purging for you.

@@Danny-MOG There have been a number of reviews on you tube. The grinding noise you hear is likely air that needs to be purged at start up and is common with many HOB filters. Just tilt and giggle to help the air find itself out. You can modify the filter cartridges to hold various media. I prefer Aqua Clear HOB because they are simple and lend themselves to various media configurations w/o modifications. What is wrong with the pipe?

Hi, yes it ran for a few days with no noise reduction so no luck there. The cartridges, as I was saying, I knew about from other videos and was planning to use some bags of Matrix. The pipe? Think it’s pretty obvious in the video 🤭 speaking of which… hon I must say, I have a vague impression you haven’t really watched the video 🤭 all good no worries, but yeah, I'll not repeat myself, I did talk about a lot of stuff in this 20 min video. About the video you shared, yes it was the first review I watched.. he said it’s a bit louder than the other filter he has, how loud? Mystery, he doesn't put the mic close to it.. also we don’t have the same pipe issues, as you'd know if you watched my video. I’ll leave it there, hugs 😜

I have yet to find a truelly quiet filter. Unno if I've just made bad choices or bad luck or if it's stuff like using pre-filter sponges. Went with an internal filter also for my hard to access aquarium that doesn't have room for a good hang on back.

@@hefoxed Purigen is Aquaria best kept secret; they all only want you to buy a zillion stuff you don’t need for a low tech tank and fool you with so much talk you just get lost and buy things you regret. As a Frenchie, I don’t buy anything that easily unless really real and proven excellent as is our cuisine, fashion and arts and perfumes etc etc.. stay with Tidal 35/50 and Aquaclear HOB and Purigen cleans everything .. it is not expensive if you have small tanks and only need to use one tea spoon in a regular tea filter (nobody never tells nobody this but I try to share my secret for my impeccable creations - I paint Japanese style Ukiyoe and use my love to also create Aqua Ukiyo-é who nobody knows - so and add the purigen on top of your biomedia inside the HOB and to keep it in place and from opening and pouring into your tank, add a filter floss or sponge on top; NEVER take the purigen in tea filter out while HOB runs or it may open break and … well … you must literally empty your tank entirely.. Purigen gives all aquaria in their stores and wherever online that super clear look they don’t tell you and also helps against algae.. goodluck and may you enjoy the tanks you love to create your way best way with best of results

As a guy on a forum put it: it may be that quality control is less than desired, so some people end up with wonky filters. I don’t know, but I am certainly not the only one with a helplessly noisy filter. So I’m just not willing to waste my money on one of the most expensive brands out there and end up, time after time, with products with issues 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can’t even resell them, few ppl waste so much money on these things in my country, we don’t have much support for this brand in my country either, I have to import most things.. too much hassle I’m done with Oase for now, enough 😂

@@Danny-MOG - fair enough! - I was going to say to try drilling the intake tube inside the pre filter - because that is one area that can cause noise - but you shouldn’t really have to start messing around drilling holes in premium filter - it should work straight out of the box!
