    Vegas is not "potentially snatching" the Oakland A's. And, Vegas didn't raid Oakland of it's football team. Don't try to portray Vegas as the villain. Oakland's so-called leadership is to blame. KPIX/CBS NEWS: you need to do much better by reporting honestly.

    A's fans can point to 20 years of futile negotiations as a prime contributor to this development. It's been like watching an electric train under the Christmas tree: 'round and 'round it goes, but ultimately goes nowhere. Somewhere, somehow, someone overlooked the obvious - a professional sports team adds value to its city through revenue generation, commercial development, infrastructure and, in the Howard Terminal scheme, housing. Apparently, that isn't worth the investment for some of the parties involved.

  • @triaxe-mmb

    @triaxe-mmb

    Cause they got burned the last time they "invested" to help sports teams out...still footing the bill for that crap... They were happy to help raise funding for off site improvements and give some tax incentives but they weren't willing to take on debt for a billionaire's pet project. I would rather the city take on debt for schools and roads than a sports stadium. Also, the housing was to help the sport team make money on the deal...you think another developer won't want to to a no stadium just more housing and commercial space deal on Howard Terminal site, similar to what Signature Development did down the street...it will take time but the units will get built and this time the City won't have to foot any money for the off-site improvements since they don't need to make a stadium build breakeven for a billionaire

    Only country in the world (that I know of (and Canada I guess, but that's the 51st State for some things)) where the public subsidizes the play things of the rich...beyond me how we have come to think giving millions and even billions in tax breaks to a sports team owner is good business... There are processional sports teams in Europe that can rival the majors in the US but none of the teams or their owners look for a handout from the local and state governments to make their personal dreams come true...the pay for it themselves...

    The owner has been purposely tanking the team to bring attendance down so they can create a false narrative that they need to move. As a Giants fan, I feel really pissed for A's fans. They deserve better. They are among the most loyal fans in sports despite decades of team mismanagement.

    @@zesolodar Oakland always had a much smaller fanbase than the Giants here in the Bay. But, yes, they were loyal, pulling in 18-27k per home game for the past 2 decades even during many down years. This extremely low attendance now only happened in the past two years when fans knew they were tanking in 2021 (and continued tanking in 2022 where they cut their payroll in half) and ignoring their facilities (not fixing their seating, parking, or plumbing).

    @@BootsandUtes don’t forget raising prices for everything in the process. Why tf would anyone pay extra to watch a worse team? But at the same time, crooked politicians in Oakland are also to blame, this whole thing is just one giant mess and the only people who suffer from this are the fans. Oakland as a whole is falling apart, who knows how long until it falls off the map. It’s a shame as well, 3 of their major sports franchises have such rich history from their time in Oakland… I usually hate team jumpers/un-loyal fans, but I wouldn’t blame a single Oakland fan for jumping ship to a different team, I’d probably root for one of the new expansions when they are formed
