Oak and Walnut Decorative Box with car relay attack protection built in

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is an Oak and Walnut box that has a faraday cage built in. It prevents car keys from transmitting their signals and hence preventing the remote entry or remote start cars from being stolen by amplifying the key signal from inside the house.
Took me a few attempts to get it right but the final result is just spectacular. Main wood is Oak with the darker being Walnut. Has splines and trim in walnut and the inner box is sapele.

Hello.... thanks for the video. I have always had a fascination with boxes. Your finished project looks great. Patience is not my forte, so projects like this help me work on that. The only question I have is about what finish you used. Nice work! Thanks again!

Hi I usually finish all my projects with osmos top oil. It’s a good food safe oil that brings out the colour and grain pattern really well. It’s easy to repair and lasts ages between coats so it’s my go to finish for many of my projects these days

Really nice box. Regarding shielding RF. That's tricky to do while it should look pretty. I'd go with the copper approach. Adding flexible conductive material at the seems to the lid. Should stop RF. Another way is to make a kind of labyrinth with two sheets from the bottom and one or two from the top overlapping each other. Not nearly as pretty as your current box though. Thanks for sharing. Weekend Stuff

Thanks that’s really helpful been making a few more of these boxes and finding new issues. Turns out if you are not very careful glue can affect the rf fabric have done a box with and without glue one works the other pants. The flexible conductive material at seams is a cracking idea thank you very much. Turns out every day is a school day when doing something new.

The copper and rfid create a faraday cage which prevents keys from transmitting their signal therefore providing security for cars that use remote entry or start

The spline jig is awesome however as it’s melamine I had to use screws to hold it together if I made again would just use mdf or ply and glue so no screws to make a mess of blades. Also learnt the need for a flat grind blade to make the splines with flat bottom to improve glue joint. Always learning

Overall an interesting video and a nice looking result. A little constructive feedback: I appreciate the shared learning about things that don't work, but I think you spent too much of the video time showing you unsuccessful efforts. Personally, I would prefer a mention of the mistake, perhaps some thing illustrative to make the error clear, then let's move on to the successful techniques.

Interesting you would make a video for KZread without looking at other YT videos. If you are going to include a repeating process, cutting many boards, soldering many pieces, just show ONE then SAY you did many to make it much more watchable. On a personal note, I think that wood and resin is quite ugly. #binit
