O.J. Simpson to Bob Costas during prison visit: You did it!

Ойын-сауық

Sportscasting icon Bob Costas recalls when O.J. Simpson tried calling him from the back of a Ford Bronco during his historic, slow speed chase along Southern California freeways in 1994. Bob Costas can listen to Bob Costas tell stories all day too and therein lies the problem. Truly great broadcasters never make the story about "them." Costas always tries to make it about him, one way or another, and that's why he will never be great, just good.

His best friend thought he did it. 4 of the lawyers on his dream team either gave strong indication that he did it or sidestepped questions stating the shoddy handling of evidence gave "reasonable" doubt. I actually disagree with that. Only an unreasonable person would believe that. Mr. Johnny turned this case into a civil rights movement. 27 years later, nothing has changed. @Sheha Nagaraj There was about 1.5 mL of O.J. Simpson’s blood assumed missing from a vial of evidence. The LAPD could not counter the idea of “lost blood” because there was no documentation of how much reference blood was taken from Simpson as evidence. The person who drew the blood could only guess he had taken 8 mL; only 6 mL could be accounted for by the LAPD. To add to the problem, the blood was not immediately turned over as evidence but was carried around for several hours before it was entered into the chain of custody, allowing for speculation of when and how the 1.5 mL of blood may have disappeared.

In addition to the bloody shoe prints that were traced back to the Bruno Magli's he said he never wore but they had him on camera wearing them. He also changed his story a bunch of times as well. I lived in LA during this time and had a few "one degree separations" with the OJ case. People are still amazed at my run-ins! I worked for two interior design firms, and with the first one, our client was Michael Ovitz formerly with Disney, who lived across the street from OJ and Nicole on Rockingham. Went to Ovitz home once for delivery of items, and remember parking in front of OJ's house. He wasn't home, but I could hear kids from inside the house. Second design firm, our client lived in condo complex half way up the street, from the murder site. She remembered being awaken by a car going down the alley, THAT night, because her bedroom window faced the alley. I saw and met Kato Katlin, the former "houseguest" who lived behind OJ's house, once at my apt complex in West Hollywood. Kato shared elevator ride with me, said hello, then got off, to go see a friend? He just seemed a bit odd? 🤔 I was sitting at the corner of Doheny and Third in Beverly Hills, and a car driven by OJ's daughter, Arnell, pulls up next to mine, she looks over briefly, then drives off? 🤔 Finally, while working on another design project in Brentwood, saw OJ himself! Sitting on Sunset waiting for signal light to change, a white SUV (not a Bronco), turns left in front of me, heading east on Sunset. His driver's window was down, as was mine... I looked over to see F*****G OJ SIMPSON, look at me! Let me tell you, almost 30 years later, I can still picture that moment, and get goosebumps, because I can say that I looked at into the eyes of someone who committed a DOUBLE MURDER! Chilling... 😨

@@Toadspring With you on both counts. The "you did it" comment was probably intended as cute, but under the circumstances said more about O.J.'s pathology than his humor. And Costas is essentially, to my mind, a well-spoken and insightful commentator, who is good at drawing out the humanity in stories. Confident? yes, and maybe that vibe that comes across sometimes as overconfidence may have developed from being a really short guy wanting to hang around much bigger guys! When his career first started, I didn't like him much (for the same reasons others are mentioning here), but over time I've come to appreciate him as a good communicator, storyteller, and voice for the flawed and sometimes amazing people who play, coach, and operate these sports we attach ourselves to.
