O Gauge Live Steam: Crewchester at 70

Ғылым және технология

This video is a celebration of Crewchester at 70 and consists of clips from Graham's open days in May and Sept 2022. While the majority of sequences are of live steam, there are some of battery electric and clockwork. In 2022, Graham made two changes to the track layout which increased the operational interest. Firstly all three of the through platforms in Crewchester can access the top loop. This allows Crewchester to be a passing place for trains traveling in opposite directions. Secondly there is a new crossover next to the viaduct allowing trains traveling anticlockwise to immediately get to the up line to Abbottsdene. Spot times when there is a down train is waiting for the viaduct to become free.
Especially in the Sept meeting ,we tried to set the signals correctly both to pause the running of steam engines as well as setting the route when moving off.
In the middle of the afternoon, we took time to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Crewchester Station lead by Stuart, Jack Ray's son.
I'm indebted to William Hart and Graham Sheppard who provided some clips.
The running order is as follows. You will also notice Nicolas' battery powered radio controlled Tornado in multiple sequences.

As an American I have to say I am in LOVE with these british trains. I own a Bowman I found here in the states but I'm thinking of perhaps picking up a Basset Lowke or something where you can control it's speed. The Bowman looks amazing but from what I've read it's kind of a light and let rip loco. lol

Dave, With these engines being so small, do most of them have oscillating cylinders or are they fixed?

Most of the engines in my videos are fixed cylinders - whether outside or between the frames. It is possible to get 2 x 8mm cylinders between O gauge frames. at 50-60psi, this gives more than enough force to pull a decent train.

@@DrDave_63395 Yeah I noticed that you guys aren't afraid to give these engines a workout lol. Amazing how powerful they are for there size. Thanks for the knowledge, Dave.
