NZSL with Carter | New Zealand Police
This week, for New Zealand Sign Language week, Police teamed up with Carter, and his mum and dad, to spread awareness about services for the Deaf community in Aotearoa provided by New Zealand Police - www.police.govt.nz/111-txt/how-register-111-txt and to bring awareness about this very important week.
Carter is six-years-old and profoundly deaf. He has his own social media channel which raises awareness for New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) - NZSL with Carter.
Carter is really into cars, so we took a variety of police officers and their cars up to meet him, have a korero in NZSL with him and brighten up his day.
Thanks for your help Carter! 🧏

Beautiful work NZ POLICE... Great video
I’m also deaf and use nzsl and gsl
What an amazing video, very heartwarming. Thanks for sharing!
Now THAT is cool! My daughter was taught NZSL in primary school and won awards for her ability to communicate effectively (the teacher who taught her NZSL was deaf). Now in her late teens and looking after youngsters at her church, she uses it to communicate with the children who have hearing difficulties and in a way, is paying it forward in teaching them additional signing. She is currently studying for ECE, then on to primary teaching and intends to keep the sign language part of that and include it in the curriculum at an age appropriate level in each if she can. If Carter is into cars, I have a couple of British classics that I would happily take him out for a ride in. Good on the young fella for having a go and keeping the awareness out there. Good on the Police for making his day a great one :)
