Light does not beat dark, it merely pushes against it, but the time will come when it can no longer hold it back. Our universe is predicted to end in pitch black as the stars, the last remnants of light die and fade into the pitch black abyss created by the ever expanding dark matter, the very fabric that holds things together in ways that even gravity cannot do. So no, in reality light can never truly beat dark.

One Christian Cabalist equated Nyx with Ein Soph, the Impersonal One. Mystics call this Godhead or Brahman. Nyx was described as a great black bird. Hindus speak of the Kalahansa or Kalihansa. The Swan of Eternity or Black Swan. This is another name of the Parabrahman, the Ultimate Reality. The Divine Dark.

​@@lorenzoreynolds2512 Well, Helen is Nyx's great-granddaughter if we count the version of Helen being the daughter of Zeus and Leda which is still valid. But other versions of her origin story (let's say the Fragment 8 of the Cypria, for example) has Helen being the daughter of Zeus and Nemesis, the latter being Nyx's daughter, which makes Helen, her granddaughter. So both relationships are correct, depending on the version.

I enjoy the fact that Zeus fears her. I adore that Zeus is not an absolute powerhouse in the face of ultimate great powers in the universe going head to head(I mean look at what happened with typhon) (and not use tricks and such to win). But that’s just my opinion. Best primordial goddess!

@@isaklal518 nah, the other gods won't rebel against Zeus again. Just one Hecatoncheires made the rebel gods kneeled to Zeus again even Poseidon. Yeah Poseidon, who is often stated to rivals Zeus in terms of power swore loyalty to Zeus again. It is because Zeus managed to make the 3 Hecatoncheires sided especially to him. In other words even though Poseidon can rival Zeus's power he don't possess the same influences like Zeus does. Besides, Zeus is at Nyx's territory which made him at the great disadvantage. Also Erubus, Nyx's husband and another Primordial who never leave their territory is there too. Not to mention Nyx and Erubus had a neighbour who is a another Primordial, Tartarus. In some depiction, Tartarus fathered Typhon with Gaia to seek revenge on Zeus for killing his first child/daughter. Worst case scenario is if Tartarus join Nyx's side to beat Zeus even though Nyx alone will be too much for Zeus to handle. Besides if the 3 Hecatoncheires came to aid Zeus, the Titans that they are guarding are likely to escape from imprisonment. And another worst case scenario is when the Titans would join Nyx's side to seek revenge on Zeus. No wonder Zeus was afraid at that time because he had no direct authority of the underworld but luckily for him Hades does. Besides, Zeus is already on Gaia's bad side he don't want another Primordials as his enemy because Gaia alone managed to put the Olympian Gods on great danger twice.

He even said that if they had a golden rope tight around the Earth and all the gods were to pull it Zeus says he would be able to beat them and that means brute power alone Zeus says he will be able to fling both Gaia and Pontus(Primordial Gods) with his barehands. Nyx might be the most powerful deity in all of Greek myth. Other contenders include Typhon(might technically not be a deity but was born from Gaia and Tartarus who are deities which should make him a deity) and Chaos.

I just love learning about all the different gods and goddesses of Greek mythology. They just sound very appealing to me about what they do.

To my knowledge, The Trojan War was actually the second time Hypnos was convinced by Hera to put Zeus into an enchanted sleep. The first time was at some point during the 12 labors of Hercules. Zeus had promised him clear skies while sailing, but Hera wanted to sabotage Herc with a storm, so she tricked Hypnos into putting Zeus to sleep, saying that he was having trouble resting and needed help. Hercules' desperate prayers during the storm she summoned woke Zeus, and the furious King of Olympus chased Hypnos down until he hid under Nyx's cloak. The second time in the Trojan War, Hera actually had to bribe Hypnos by promising him the hand of Pasathea, the Grace (minor Goddess) of relaxation and meditation, who he fancied to secure his aid, and stayed by Zeus' side as he slept to ensure he wouldn't be disturbed. Hypnos got off scot-free that time and Hera kept her end of the deal.

My most favorite of the Gods and most worthy of respect. The thought of a goddess painting the world dark to allow us to take refuge for sleep is one of the ideas that actually helps me sleep at night.

Besides Aether and Herema, its actually pretty ambiguous which children Nyx had on her own and which were fathered by Erebus. I like to imagine that it actually doesn't matter. I've always imagine Erebus and Nyx as being some of the best parents in the myths, and that Erebus has been the weary Uncle of Gaia's bloodline, being there in a background while not getting directly involved with that bit of family drama. After all, by some accounts, he and Nyx are parents to the Fates themselves.

It makes me wonder if they were once something like a big tribe which then split apart and then created their own religion. For example, I found recently out, that the cosmic giant Ymir also exist in the Hinduism. And aside that, the Germanic religion has also similarities with the Greek religion too. I mean, in a way it does make sense because the Germanic languages are part of the Indo-Germanic languages. So maybe there was an Indo-Germanic-religion from which all other follow myths/religions of the Indo-Germanic-tribes were born. 🤔

The Romans called her Chione (same pronunciation, different spelling). Second, Selene, another moon goddess.

Zeus HATE the powers of Hypnos and Eris. Because Zeus hate Hypnos when he doesn’t want to get sleepy and Zeus hate Eris when he doesn’t want to get involved with discord, conflict, disagreement, and incompatibility. Zeus himself feared Nyx enough to retract all threats against her son Hypnos and her daughter Eris.

I like to imagine the conversation happening juuuuust outside of the underworld, with persephone entering back for winter like "Evening" while Zeus is just there terrified.

It’s really cool how Neil Gaiman was able to use the goddess of night in the Sandman comics as well as time

Despite how high or mighty the Titans and Gods of Olympus are, they never dare to directly challenge the primordial gods, including Nyx, Erebus, Gaia, and Tartarus (Eros sometimes considered one). These deities seemingly have no weakness and only fears Chaos.

Though there are primordials who surpass gods in some aspects but still fear them because the gods surpass their influence. Hypnos is the perfect example. As a primordial he is able to surpass Zeus resistance against sleep and can influence his (Zeus) dreams because he (Hypnos) holds domain about all dreams and the sleep. However, dreams are still what they are: dreams. And because they are dreams, they can be destroyed and Zeus wields enough power to do this. At least, that's how I imagine why Hypnos fears Zeus.

Whether Zeus fears her power or her influence, he still fears her

These are some of my favorite stories of Greek mythology and I love doing stories and how they unfold every time.

Hypnos' hot, goth Mama

It was also because Helios couldn't chase her in the entire world and not have night elsewhere. And that though she was an aspect of chaos it allowed humans to use their imagination and from that the world was shaped even more.

Zeus was probably terrified of Nyx because she could Take away the night leaving us with only day or she could turn the world dark for years if she wanted to she probably had knowledge and powers that could Alter the world....No one Would dare disrespect the Goddess of night she could take it away in one lift of a finger... This is just my theory tho not true....or it could be haha ❤❤❤

Nyx was one of my favourite deities.

According to the Illiad, when Zeus woke up from his slumber, figured out that Hypnos put him to sleep at the request of Hera he lashed out at her but his wife was able to deflect guilt and calm him down with clever talking. So i totally buy that he would lose his momentum at other stronger women as well 🤣
