    This is a biased review. He even plays the nylon guitar super softly and with no energy to make a point. They are both good, depends what you want to play. Ballads, romantic songs, pop I prefer nylon. Rock and metallic sound, to me, sounds better with steel. Fingerpicking, use nylon. With a pick, I use steel. But, I think most people are biased. I prefer nylon.

  • @RogerThat902

    @RogerThat902

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@IceBeamTetsuno It was a fair comparison. A lot of people just like classical. The problem is as Andy said, most songs that HE teaches will sound better on a steel string. I should not say better, but more familiar. Or at the very least close to the sound Andy is producing, which is important for a beginner. Classical is absolutely beautiful, but the techniques that make nylon great are not anything a beginner will be doing for a while--like fingerpicking. By the time you're ready to fingerpick, you will either be ready to buy another guitar and/or know you prefer classical guitars. The thing is also, there are different techniques that classical guitar players use that Andy doesn't teach because that's not the style most people today are learning for pop/rock songs. Andy gave great advice, but that doesn't mean if you want to play classical you should avoid it. No, just know that you're not going to get the same sound as Andy does in his videos. Nor will you be taught what is traditional "classical guitar." Traditional Classical guitarists hold their guitars totally differently than steel string guitar players typically do. That's not a huge issue in playing, but you should know that. In fact, it's very easy to tell someone who started on classical guitar based on the technique they use on steel. Traditionally it's taught somewhat differently.

    My rule of thump for the guitar to start on is the one that suits your musical preference the most. Every guitar type its own has pros and cons so the deciding factor is the type of music you like. If you are unclear about your musical preferences, I highly suggest starting on a steel string acoustic. IMO it’s kind of in between the electric and classical guitars; like a middle ground, simply put. It will be easier to switch to either should you find steel string acoustics not to your musical taste.

I think it might be a great choice for a beginner. Very comfortable to play all around. About $400 BTW. As far as not sounding like the beloved recordings.... Most beginner songs aren't currently on the pop charts. Also the soft nylon voicing might make practice more pleasant for others in the household. Just saying.

    Agree 100%. I’ve only had steel string guitars. Family bought my daughter a cheap little nylon sting uke, and while it’s adorable, the nylon slips so much and it won’t stay in tune for longer than a few minutes, it really put her off the whole thing understandably. I went out on a limb and got her a mini fender telecaster, steel stringed, electric etc. Her keenness has sky rocketed, sometimes she asks to plug into my amp and use some of my peddles. I try and let her plug in at a minimum because I feel she should get practice in without, considering it’s an electric. If she stays keen I’ll get her a nice junior size Acoustic to she can really get her teeth into it. Thanks for the video.

It does the job, just about, but it certainly feels more on the spectrum of a toy rather than a true instrument. I really appreciate your help, because at this young age, that feeling of discouragement can stay with them for many years. Thanks again, I’m off to buy a mid range decent uke! 👍👍

    There are steel-string guitars with a slotted headstock and backwards tuners as well. Some parlor guitars, for example. Taylor makes some of their large sizes with slotted headstocks as well, they claim it has an influence on the sound.

Man I can't use a pick... so used to my fingers... and it isn't even proper fingerstyle/finger picking I need to work on that... Never had issues with C chord sunce it was travel sized xD

    I think the best way to learn guitar is to start with a nylon-string guitar. Nylon is tougher on your fingers; it requires more finger strength and endurance. You need to build those up as you make progress. If you ace nylon, you'll have a better time moving on to steel strings. Regardless of what music style you're going for, you'll need that strength and endurance, and I cannot stress this enough; moving to an electric guitar having played an acoustic for years made the transition easy as pie. The cherry on top is that almost any girl will fall for spanish-style music. :D

The reason was the guitar was a surprise and I didn't get to choose my liking. But I can still play it well and still stands as the ONLY guitar I ever owned in my life.

    You can try them at the store and see what's most comfortable for you ! I would recommend to not buy one too big, but also the shape can make the difference ! It's really about how you feel when you play it ! Also travel guitars can be guitar of which you can take off the fretboard to help you travel in an easier way. I hope you've bought one by now ! 😊

Starting off with a nylon was not difficult and it actually taught me how to play by using PIMA and other techniques that greatly helped me on steel string.Ever since I graduated I have been playing a steel string, but I think I enjoyed nylon-guitar compositions more.

    If you want a nylon strings (Spanish) acoustic guitar I can only think about artesanal handmade guitars made at paracho, Michoacan, México. My 2 main reasons are that you can bought one in a budget and even if for the people from paracho are the worst, it would be excellent for a beginner to a mid level. Reason number 2 is that even the medium budget guitar to the most expensive ones are in the range of price of an american fender but.... all of these guitar lines from the 50 usd to the 1500 usd all are handmade and all became with rose wood, here's the first variation in the value you can bought the cheapest one with just the rose wood just for the main resonator or something that came with a major part in the body made of rose wood and is the same quality as the violin, viola or cello rosewood stick resonator. Great content btw

    Nylon and steel both have their uses in different styles of music. Nylon is more suited towards classical or flamenco for example. Nylon is also easiest on your fingers. Steel is going to sound better for almost any other genre in my opinion. It's more taxing on the fingers, but it's worth it and it will make you a better, more flexible guitar player overall. Again, just on my opinion.

Screw the sound ! I can sculpt the sound with any amp to sounds like a canary if i wanted to. I am 55 and need comfort first ! Nylon is the way to go for beginners and intermediate students.

    If the last three strings are in nylon, it's a classical but if they're only steel strings then it's a folk. You can get new strings for your classical guitar, it's always good as you should change them about every six months if you're playing it often ! 😊
