NYJAH HUSTON'S HACK TO KICKFLIP HIGHER

Nyjah Huston hack to kickflip higher is all in the knees. Nyjah Huston bends his knees a lot before he pops the kickflip. Then Nyjah Huston tucks his knees at the kickflip catching point. Finally Nyjah Huston bends his knees a lot when he lands the kickflip. Nyjah Huston's ability to bend his knees deep is the key to high kickflips.

Nyjah's secret to a higher kickflip is setting up a fresh board everyday

For me it’s all about timing, I think it helps to put your front foot a little bit further back than your used to, because when you pop you need to get used to sliding your front foot more before you flick, think of it like a good highish Ollie then instead of stopping to level the board out you just continue to kick your foot off that pocket, and get used to bring your back foot up more, so when you do start getting your kick flips up, your not limiting your height by stopping the board with your back foot, I used to practice doing the over boards, get an old set up and it’ll help you understand the timing to get your kick flips up

Working on squats for glute and hamstring strength will help you squat lower and smoother, and help you to control where you put your weight. You can kinda see how Nyjahs front foot stays in full contact with the board longer from the initial pop.

How I got my kick flips higher was setting my kick flips like my Ollie, it’s a Ollie but a kickflip and getting you’re Ollie’s higher in general will make your kick flips higher too, just suck up those knees!

First! Thanks for using my comment in your vid, I also suffer from those stiff legs. Always thinking I am in a nice position, but after reviewing I am bending like I am falling forward, instead of nice stacked/bend knees 90degrees above the board with a straight back like Niyah. Fifth make over the flatbar was lit!!

Front foot should flick out and down..like a Karate kick. The out flick flips the board the down kick makes the back of the board pop up. Also front foot should be in almost the same position as an Ollie just a little bit more towards the side or edge of the board....hope this helps anyone out there. And like anything practice practice practice and more practice...eat drink and sleep kick flips and you will have them. Peace!

Hey love the content bro. One observation I have is that you may be limited in your ability to bend your knees due to low ankle mobility. If you look at the side by side clips Nyjah can get into a deeper ankle dorsiflexion position, which is what allows him to bend his knees without leaning his head over his toes as much. I'm no expert so take it with a grain of salt but I think some extra mobility could help you out. Nice job on the kickflip back 50!

Dude the one you did looked like you been doing it for years, now you gotta try it to the flat bar lol, it's a little more scary, but you just gotta fully commit, I'll say your progression is inspiring, I've been skating 20 years and have a lit of tricks, but there are a few I've never been able to do, like hardflip, Idk why, I've watched tutorials, know how to do it step by step, and I can flip it perfect, just can't get my back knee to bend and put both feet on it, can get the front to catch every time, but I've literally tired for hours before and still couldn't do it

As someone that's got a cert in personal training backwards running helps your knees take impact from jumps and it helps posture too. Doesn't help you squat down though.

  • @jaciobe

@@localjoe you just need to learn to squat down properly then. That would happen just from bad form from squatting down. Example how your knees track over your toes. Also you seem to squat from the waist.

I think knee-bending you mentioned may be more a matter of form/posture than technique. Which is such a huge can of worms when you start looking at how different pros have different ways to align their body. Would be cool to see your opinion/analysis on that topic!

  • @frankie3351

how do you catch it tho? lol after learning hellflips I guess I flick way harder or something on my kickflips now because it rotates way too fast and trying to get it high basically makes it do a double flip. is my front foot too close to the nose? How do i get it to rotate less I guess is the question, which is a weird problem to have for me cuz it's usually the other way around lmao

As someone who's been working on flexibility, the splits specifically, I'd say for you to focus on doing squats after your sessions. Just by watching you, I can tell you have very tight hip flexors. Doing a squat will teach you how sit at a 90 degree angle. I'm 38 and had knee surgery when I was 25. I rarely have knee pain anymore because I stretch so much.

I don't want to insult you, but backwards running is not helping your knees beyond it being a bit of a warming up. Knees require muscle strength and exercise to deal with things related to pains from having weaker knees (in particular knee ligaments or perhaps even worn down kneecaps). Such a thing would help with hyper-mobile knees as well. However, most likely your knees take a beating from stomping landings or perhaps from turning your knees when the foot is on the ground, ie. the classic 'soccer knee' issue. The only way to not get the soccer knee / tennis knee issue, is to not turn your knee when your foot / leg is blocked being grounded to the floor surface. Could there be internal wear from just years of skating at play? Of course, I haven't seen an x-ray of your knees hahah. But I do think most skaters have hurting knees due to stomping landings, instead of being a bit more patient when landing. Maybe you don't feel like you are stomping landings, but I believe you might be doing that based on the footage. I could be wrong though.
