@Cel2Savage Actually its the perfect move, gives him a chance to fight for the championship in a growing series but more importantly established those Mercedes links which give him half a shot at a future F1 drive at a team like Williams.

@Cel2Savage Ocon and Rusell aren't going to Williams. And an F1 drive is anything but a backwards move. If you offer the Williams drive to DeVries today he snaps your hand off for it. Williams are on the up with new ownership and if he does well there he can get a better drive in the future. The Merc FE move was excellent for DeVries.

@@abdbcdgbja5733 DeVries had by far a better junior career than Albon. In fact, after finishing 3rd in F2 2018 Albon was headed to FE just like Nyck but RB realised how crap Brendon Hartley was so gave him the Toro Rosso drive instead.

@@areebsiddiqui758 The thing is, Albon for most of his career until 2016 had shit teams, while De Vries was generally in competitive ones. Let's not also forget that Albon had massive problems at home because of the incarceration of his mother. In GP3 they were both in ART and Albon beat him, in 2017 he was in the cursed ART seat and in 2018 he beat him as well.

Its very difficult to predict his future based on one weekend. Its true he was dominant in daiyah 1 but that is not enough evidence to suggest move to formula 1

So I watched this video after Monza 2022 and I just screamed my whole house down because Williams is tupid but the supidness of my favourite team McLaren is unmatched just imagine Lando and Nyck together. For Gods sake someone just f*cking sign him

Gladly he managed to get a seat for at least 1 f1 race and managed to score points in a Williams

I mean, you said it. It's a world championship. That's the same level as F1. Why do people (generaly) think that F1 must be the goal for everybody? If he can thrive in FE, that's just good for everybody. We get to watch exciting talent, he gets to win a world championship.

@@matejpimper3354 well it's different for every person right, but winning a world championship as you said means you're of a certain kind of caliber. Which opens doors to other classes, like Alonso did. Going to Dakar and indy. Of course money and politics are also a big factor, but the more nyck wins the more opportunities he gets t do what he wants to.

@@matejpimper3354 Lol what? FE is incomparable to F1 even though its a good championship in its own right. Take the current world champion Da Costa and offer him the chance to drive for even Haas or Williams and he'll bite your hand off for it rather than stay in FE.

@@areebsiddiqui758 I don't think so. They are racers and want to race for wins and championships, not to trundle along at the back of a grid in a Haas. Specifically da Costa recently tested an IndyCar, that's a place I could very well imagine him in. And yes, it's probably less prestigious than F1 (outside of America anyway), but it's much more competitive.

@@matejpimper3354 That's bullshit. Da Costa's dream was F1, he's spoken many times about it. And he would lap up a Haas drive if it was given to him. If he did well there then he'd be promoted to a better team. F1 is the pinnacle of Motorsport and any young racer growing up dreams of racing in it. Nobody dreamed of racing on FE whilst growing up. They only went there in the first place cause they couldn't get an F1 drive for one reason or another. That's why almost the entire FE grid is made up of F1 discards, people who couldn't cut it in F1 or got unlucky like Wehrlein and Vandoorne. Not a single FE driver including the world champion turns down an F1 drive, even for a backmarker team.

After this weekends race i dont think any1 will question that Nyck belongs in F1. Scoring a 9th place as an emergancy driver and not even having enough time to learn what button on the wheel does what. Hes race engineer this weekend deserves an award.

Nyck's biggest weakness is his tire management. Now in a series where you have tires that die on the thought of a corner that would be an issue. But in a series where your tires last multiple sessions...you can see where this is going.

Formula E is not amazing, but at least it gives drivers who just missed F1 an opportunity to make a living out of Motorsport 🤷🏻‍♂️

Devries is good, but got beaten by Leclerc in F2 and GP3(in the same team)- Albon in F2 and GP3(in same team)- Russell in F2(russell was a rookie aswell) and Norris in f2. While winning f2 is great, doing it in your 3rd season is significantly less impressive than what albon, Russell, norris, Leclerc etc did in f2 in less seasons.

I don't see him getting an f1 drive for Williams, he doesn't have the same backing as Lafifi. Unfortunately, in f1 good talent does get wasted and I think the same thing will happen to Zhou or Lungard, unless the Renault rumours are true.

It wil happen in 2023 after his race in Italy last sunday.

I remember meeting him at the Hungaroring when he was racing in Formula Renault 2.0. Humble and focused, always had a feeling he's gonna go big. I honestly hope he gets a shot at F1 too.

This just me running his options: Who did NyckDeVries piss-off: - McLaren told him to shut it after his F2 win, regarding a supposed seat if he won it. Had him as a reserve driver for 2021. - Williams: Opted for Albon. - AlfaRomeo: Opted for ChineseMoney. - Haas: He doesn't bring enough sponsorship for them. - RBR/AT: His constant Merc-wanking means this is a no-go. - Ferrari: Nyck dissed Jean Todt at the FIA Gala, which was essentially Todt's retirement party. It's unlikely DeVries can now talk his way past Leclerc or Sainz. Other options: - Alpine: French team looks really content with a French driver and Alonso. - Aston Martin: Considering Toto's shares in the company this MIGHT be an option if Vettel retires if 2022 cars drain his enthusiasm. Lawrence isn't gonna sack Lance. - Merc: Russell obviously got the call and Lewis didn't retire after Abu Dhabi.. Simply not happening unless Lewis retires after 2022. There's also the question regarding whether Toto is willing to essentially put an F1 Rookie in a Merc (even if he''s a F2 and FE champion). Considering how long Toto stalled Russell, it's clearly not a thing he's willing to consider.. In closing: it's either going to be Aston Martin in 2023 after Vettel retires - or it isn't happening. And considering Williams opted for Albon over deVries, that says a lot about his chances of ever getting that F1-seat. Especially with Piastri now also being a free agent (and a considerably more likable one at that!) and money/parents owning teams. I mean, Stroll, Mazespin and Latifi are really only there because of their dads.. so unless Lavazza decides to end their sponsorship, Nicholas is probably in the same boat as Stroll and the other guy.

He did WEC as well in the Racing Team Netherlands LMP2 car and he was one of the fastest guys on track. Hes now a test/replacement driver for Toyota in the Hypercar class.

I remember when McClaren had showcased him in their cartoon animation videos as their up and coming "Young McClaren Driver of the Future". I thought for sure he was going to get his shot in F1. To this day when they talk about 'who will be the replacement driver' I start shouting Nyck De Vries ! Im an American F1 fan too and I still have faith somehow he will get that chance maybe. Stoffel Van Douren got his shot. Why not Nyck.
