Unexpected? I think the writing was very much on the wall. And the ceiling. And the floor. And the windows...... I was truly happy for Nyck last year. But this year it seams that he just wasn't performing as high as his experience and pedigree had us all expecting.

I think his biggest problem wasn’t even pace but we’ve seen him crash and just do things that were very rookie like even though he is a rookie in f1 he had lots of experience prior to this though I personally believe his past experience can only help him so much in f1 but red bull felt different other wise ig. Definitely deserves a better car and better opportunity in f1.

1 - Nyck hasn't spoken to the media. 2 - Everyone, more than likely he included, saw this coming. 3 - Danny got in *his car* and then went and ripped Tsunoda's asshole out. Guy's not a good F1 driver. Simple as. There's tons of people who were successful elsewhere who tried to go to F1 and failed. Couple that with how brutal the sport is....c'mon. Also he was talking to Toto because he knows the guy, he's been the AMG reserve for 3 years.

Nyck de Vries is 28 and not a rising star in racing because by 28 you should already be where you are meant to be. His time in F1 showed him to be slow, and crashy a lot. Anyone who has watched or been in racing know performance is everything and if you aren't performing you aren't racing.

Considering Nyck, Carlos, Riccardo, Gasly, Yuki, Alex and Max came into f1 from rbr, it seems if you want to have a chance to be an f1 driver its best to take a chance with Redbull. How many years was Nyck with Mercedes? They never gave him a seat. Redbull is harsh but they produce a good chunk of the current f1 grid. Atleast they give the driver a chance to prove themselves instead of waiting at the sidelines for years hoping you might get a call one day if a driver is sick.

I think Nick de Vries can perform very well at Formula 1 at Mercedes where he is familiar with. He doesnot belong to Alpha Tauri with Honda where when he is in the flow he can compete with Max Verstappen but not with an underperforming car. His at Alpha Tauri car was underperforming so Nick de Vries made a strategic mistake to join Apha Tauri in the first place (he did not have any chance at Alpha Tauri) He must correct his strategic mistake not return to Formula E that would be another mistake but go to Mercedes in Formula 1 where he will show results. He was wordchampion with Mercedes with Formula E so it would be very strange he will not perform with Mercedes in Formula !. I think he even can beat Max Verstappen in Formula 1. Nick de Vries just was not made for Alpha Tauri where also he did not get a fair chance to prove himself, this has nothing to do with his car.

Contracts aren't one sided, he is an employee and if he doesn't do the job up to standards set by said contract, he's gone. Nobody said he had to win races to keep the seat, but he's shown zero improvement as compared to his rookie team mate with much less experience. While I have no knowledge of his particular contract, I'm sure a rookie contract would have such performance milestones included. Not the first time an up and coming driver peaked at the last lower level and just doesn't have what it takes for the next step up.
