    I don't get that appreciation shit... No one literally no one except for rare exceptions like police or medical personnel when they save your life do they ever get thanked. This dude is an asshole, like too many people nowadays... He gets it rough from people so he gets an attitude and takes it out on others... and the cycle perpetuates.. Like he doesn't seem to think there's a problem with collecting garbage at 6am, among other things... he has zero self awareness. I mean shit we all want praise but what he does just isn't any more important than any other job in the grand scheme so why does he deserve it, when the rest of us don't.

    I often think about the human history that is lost because historians only discuss people “relevant/significant” to current society.     My Dad was a garbage man, my 2 uncle's are still in the trucks. They had their own company for a while, then Waste Management bought them out and gave them jobs. They are going on 30 years with WM. They both run front loaders now. But I remember being a kid working with them in the summers as a thrower. Fun job hanging off the back of the truck, sucked some days but that's most jobs! Respect 🙏🏽

    I'm from the UK. I was a bin man at one point. It paid okay. I learned some things doing that. About society. Poverty and wastefulness. I learned that poor people (I grew up poor) waste a lot more than people with money. There's a lesson there. I love the fact you're interviewing 'real' people' Love you, Theo!!!

    Weirdly enough when I was broke, I would waste money until I was back down to 0 again, everytime, no idea why, I'd just fins things to spend it on. When I got money, I spent less and kept a hold of a lot more of it.

    You are correct. I currently drive a recycle truck in the UK and when I do the poorer areas the amount of shit they buy is unbelievable. When I do the wealthier areas there is not even half as much to collect.

    I have come to the realization (and most haven't figured it out) that it's not that poor people make bad decisions. It's in fact the opposite. People that consistently waste and make poor decisions become and stay poor. It's the same/opposite for rich people.

    I volunteer to pick up garbage around the city and our apartments. This was a real eye-opener. Sadly, bottles are not recycled. I really respect this guy for what he has done. This job is hazardous waste, ( think needles, foil with fentanyl, adult diapers with pooh poop on them, shards of glass, pee in water bottles, used condoms, etc etc). My granddaughter loves the garbage man, she greets him often. One time he even came back with a gift for her. You guys have one of those jobs where no one really notices until it starts backing up. If the new year comes around and I stop paying, guess what happens? Go ahead and take a wild guess. That's right, they stop picking up my trash. It's almost like he is being paid to pick up my trash, and he's not just doing it out of the kindness of his heart. I never said his job isn't worthy of respect.     My uncle was a garbage man for 35 years in Boston. He has a garage full of so much crazy antiques. He told me every single thing in there he found in the trash. Ppl had no clue what they were throwing away. Some of it is worth a damn amount of money. He has the clock is 3 feet tall. I forget the name of it but he told me it’s worth $5000.

    I enjoyed this interview with Wayne and Theo. There was a great rapport with them, I learned a lot and it was fascinating to learn all about sanitation engineering from A to Z. Some stories were sad, but Theo made it hilarious, when he cracked up Wayne and then Wayne started telling us the funny tales. As a former Funeral Director/Embalmer I can relate to some of the grief he went through with trying to navigate busy Chicago streets downtown in a cargo van with only side mirrors having problems parking, being yelled at, and also dealing with some decomps at times, its a smell you never forget, or trying to get around the night before garbage was out for pickup and people didn't dispose their garbage correctly, and animals were getting into it, and it was strewn everywhere. I appreciate how hard he worked to do that and salt and plow and everything with pride. Gang baby. ❤

    I love that Theo does these. I’m a native NY’er and we love our sanitation workers. It’s crazy how technical schools, civil service jobs pay more than 4-6 yr degrees. My husband went to tech school and he started at 6 figures and my 6 yr degree started nowhere near that.

    Theo is low key a genius..he should do more of these but keep them spaced out so it’s like a special episode of people who make the world turn. I’d be glad to come on to talk about drinking water treatment and distribution and wastewater treatment

    I worked for the town where I live for 27 years in water treatment / distribution , wastewater collection and treatment . Started as a laborer and finished as Utilities Division Foreman . We could talk bro .

    This was incredible. You get all the interesting details of someone's work life like you would meeting them at a bar or something without having to go out and actually socialize.

    Theo PLEASE don’t ever stop doing these episodes. They are so unique and so cool and it’s such an awesome way to shed light on the working class. Everyone you’ve had on is super cool and superb representatives for their industries. This is like the spiritual successor to Dirty Jobs but the TPW interview version 😂. Gang gang baby praise god.
