@AlMcpherson79
3 жыл бұрын
No, operationally it would be slower - as for each train you'd have a few connections to then switch between to get them in and out, which involves timing, communications, co-ordination etc etc. basically the reason why anyone gets delayed coming into a multi-platform terminus station is for these reasons on a railtrack. And god forbid that two-way connector on the single-trackpoint chokepoint breaks! there's nine platforms here. Left to right number them. now see the number of connectors each one has to use - P1 - 5, P2 - 5, P3 - 4, P4 - 3, P5 - 3, P6 - 3, P7 - 2, P8 - 3, P9 - 3. Plus one more on each going beyond that chokepoint. So now you cut out the work on ingress and egress control, the driver of each bustrain thing has steering because they are self-steering vehicles, but they have mechanisms for guided roadways (that's what the barriers are for). There are guided busways where I live. Or should I say, A guided busway. why not make that a railtrack, it has minimal crossing points with roads... except its part of a bus route, not THE bus route. What about runcorn near liverpool and warrington, that has a purpose-built-and-they-goddamn-stuck-to-their-guns-when-making-it guided busway network, why not railtrack? oh, right. busses can get 'out of the way' easily at passing points if they need to. trains have to have that planned in on their route ... Like say a local service that stops at every station, runs along a two-track route but theres four platforms at some of the stations, because it was preplanned time-tabled to place national "doesn't stop in this area" services passing said local train service when its trains were at the "side" platforms they have to use track switches to get to. There's a reason why trains aren't the end-all-be-all of public transport.
