Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti Review: The New Budget King?

Pascal on a budget - Rich reviews the GTX 1050 Ti. It's faster than its AMD equivalent, it's cool, it's quiet and it's got decent enough overclocking potential. But is it in the price vs performance sweet-spot?

  • @Clairvoyant81
    @Clairvoyant817 жыл бұрын

Would it kill you people to at least watch the video and pay attention? The RX 470 is included at around 05:00. At that point in the video he also clearly states that the 1050 Ti, just like the RX 460, is a bit too pricey for the performance it offers because the next step up (i.e. GTX 1060 or RX470) is basically just a few bucks away and considerably faster. Seriously, at least watch the entire video and pay attention. The video is only around 6 minutes long... it's not that hard. Stop complaining that the RX 470 wasn't included or forgotten because "CONSPIRACY!". It's in there.

I've seen an RX 470 4GB "Red Devil" recently for £165, and some of the 1050 Tis are going for similar money. IMO it makes little sense to buy this over the RX 470 unless power and heat are a major concern. Better yet, the GTX 1060 6GB or RX 480 8GB offer better value for money and should last much longer.

Holy shit, the Ti was compared to the 460...? I had huge respect for this channel for its expertise, but this is either deliberate (favoring NVidia) or just a huge oversight, either way, not professional. The 1050 is in the price range of the 460 and it beats it, indeed. The 1050 Ti is in the price range of the 470 where the 470 beats it by 30% or so for an extra ~$10 or so. No doubt. The 1050 Ti shouldn't be bought in theory, yet it will sell like hotcakes due to 1) videos like this 2) people already assuming NVidia is the best, despite facts speaking for themselves. So good job DF... (sarcastically).

The 1050 makes sense in its price bracket. The bottom end of the 1050ti range makes sense but with the price of cards like the MSI one shown here being only £10 cheaper than an aftermarket cooled 470, the upper end of the 1050ti range makes no sense at all.. Faster than its AMD equivalent? Maybe faster than the card they want you to compare it to, the 460, but it is nowhere near the AMD product available for similar money, the 470.

Don't tra to say that basing on the price the 460 have to be compared with the 100 ti, cause it's a lie. In all europe the right comparisons are the seguent: 460-1050, 470-1050ti, 480 4gb-1060 3gb, 480 8gb1060 6gb. The 480/4 goes from 210 to 240, the 1060/3 from 250 to 280, the 480/8 from 270 to 320, and the 1060/6 from 340 to 390/400€.

Lots of folk are mentioning the RX470... well they are right. But what's more shocking is that the 1050ti is underpowered, even by Pascal standards. See how the other Pascal cards fare against, both their predecessor and the next *2 cards* up from that one. You can compare a 1060 to a 980 these days. And yet the 1050ti struggles against the 960. It's much like the 950 in that regard, except this time the gap between 1050ti and 1060 is huge. Price isn't impressive either, considering 960 price drops.

I bought this Zotac 1050 ti recently for an A10- 7860k (4 ghz) mini atx build. (old IBM retro case) I think this card is fantastic especially since my old Kepler card (gtx 660) was cooking the innards of my poor little rig. I'm able to turn all the fan speed settings down inside my rig. (Quiet) The RX 470 would have been the perfect option if it used less wattage and much less heat. I've been testing this card on Doom, Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel and so far running smooth at 1080p. (Got 60 fps in Doom on ultra) I was a little weary buying this at first but now can see how capable this card really is. Thanks for the review :)

I always feel that low budget cards with special OC models that ramp up the price kinda defeat the point. Overclocking isn't going to make an unplayable game suddenly playable enough to matter and with the extra cost of OC models, you may as well just save a bit more and get the next card up - like the 1060 in this case

It's simple, really: Ultra settings put more stress on the GPU and reduce potential CPU "bottlenecks" as much as possible. Also... I've been a PC gamer for over 20 years now... in many games I'd rather go with ultra settings at 30 or 40 FPS than drop details to get to 60 FPS. Sure, 60 FPS is nice, but in many games, I just don't care. You should be more annoyed by people testing a GTX 1080 at 1080p... a resolution that clearly bores that GPU to death and gives pretty much useless results.

Isn't comparing the 1050ti to the rx 460 like comparing the 1050ti to the gtx 1060 3gb in that the price level is different. The 1050ti is 30-40% more expensive than the rx460. The 1050 is more direct competition and it still beats the rx460 handily most of the time, but if you are in the market for a monitor and low end video card for a normal pc case then the rx460 comes into its own now that freesync monitors offer next to no premium over non-freesync monitors now. One other thing this review glossed over that is incredibly relevent for this price bracket is the different form factors the 1050 comes in compared to the rx460. You can get single slot and SFF 1050's but you can't get them for the rx460. This review is not up to the usual digital foundry standards as there is alot of information missing from it and this one should be taken with a grain of salt until.

You make some very good videos and analysations. Unfortunately the blatant bias against AMD is perfectly clear here considering this and other comparisons. The 1050ti is about 30% more expensive than the RX460 and is also about 30% faster in DX11 titles, which in those cases makes the price/performance the same. In DX12 and Vulkan both cards get quite close to one another. This means overall that the RX460 is a better deal. Then you also simply "forget" to mention the RX470, which other commenters have already presented as a much better deal to the consumer. Considering that you clearly have a bias towards NVidia which is shown by you leaving out evidence that shows AMD as a better choice, your journalistic integrity has been compromised, which is why I can no longer support this channel.

    Kait0s! LOL Highlights I agree. 1050Ti is too underclocked. I'd rather buy 1060 3GB

In my country and in many others RX 470 and GTX 1050Ti costs close to the same and the RX 470 is much better. So no, it's not the "budget king".

In my country the price of 1050ti is almost the same as 470 and 460 is way cheaper!

On the Zotac model not needing a new power supply, will it work in an i3 6100t with integrated graphics (Intel HD 530) and 8 gigs of memory, Dell Inspiron 3650 with it's piddly 240 watt power supply, without making something burn out? While i couldn't afford to spend much on a new PC, i got the Inspiron in a flash sale for €395 (with free delivery) two weeks ago, when it would have been €450 (and €480 without the included free delivery) and i've been impressed how well it runs my admittedly mostly four year old plus games at generally max settings, i'm well aware how small its' power supply is and how much it limits the system in terms of future upgrading potential with only nvidia's barely better than the HD 530, Gt 730 and a similar AMD card officially cleared to work in the system without straining the supply - the nearly twelve year old HP Pavilion i replaced with the Inspiron has a 300 watt power supply in it... :) .

Alduin bane of kings I don't really know anything about the internal details or technical specifications of the system, only what i've read online. While i indeed opened up my Pavilion to dust it out two times (both times after it failed to turn on, but the dusting fixed at least that problem :) ), i only know it has a 300 watt supply because that's what a sticker inside said :) . I found the following two threads on Dell forums of people discussing upgrading my PC. :- en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19990438 en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19989122 Funnily enough in the first post (and the more recent post from them), the same Dell support person only mentions the nvidia GT 730 and the AMD R9-360 as being validated to run with the stock system's power supply, while in the earlier post they said both the GTX 750 ti and RX 460 will work with the power supply. Lastly there's a nearly three month old video of someone putting an RX 460 into the same system with no mention of other upgrades. I'm going to ask in the comments of that video has anyone done the same and had zero problems since... :) .

1060 is a safer bet than 1050ti. If you want future proof, go for the 6GB model.
