Numbers 24-25 - Skip Heitzig

Numbers 24-25, from our study, 04 Numbers - 2013, with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.
MESSAGE SUMMARY
The Lord used the false prophet Balaam to bless the nation of Israel, and through Balaam's final prophecy in Numbers 24, God sealed the fate of Israel and its surrounding nations. But even though the Lord blessed His people, they still sinned, worshiping the gods of other nations. When God poured out His wrath on their sin in Numbers 25, we actually see the depth of His mercy and patience.

Hello Calvary of Albuquerque! First--I want to say--God have given the man of Skip Heitzig a phenomenal resource of knowledge--that I must praise The Lord for! God had led me to tap into this knowledge, and it is causing me to want even more knowledge of The Word of god--to such a level that I don't think I have ever experienced before. Ad this is coming from a guy who had been having a walk with the Lord for nearly 4 decades! So--honestly people--THANK YOU! And thank God you are so willing to share this resource with those of us who need these valuable resources! IF I am ever able to move to move to your area--your Church--will become my Church.--Although in truthfulness--I feel like your Church IS my Church--because I am currently getting more from you guys, the I am getting from my current Church! So now that I am past the butter up section, (LOLOLOL!), I do have a question for Skip, or for whoever is allowed to respond to the question--Wasn't Moses former father in law, Jethro, a Midianite? And since that would be a yes--wouldn't Moses have some concerns about killing people who at one time, (or perhaps still--depending o how close he was to them). were/are his relatives...via the line of in-laws?

@Tom W, thanks for writing in. Good observation & question. I imagine it would be a very human emotion to struggle with what you brought up, knowing Jethro was a Midianite. We know for sure that when God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac it was incredibly difficult, but Abraham proceeded in obedience until an angel stopped his hand. All that being said. This reminds me of a quote from Pastor Chuck Smith: “At best, when God"s Word is silent, all we can do is offer conjecture, and at best, our conjecture is worthless. So I prefer not to make any conjecture. The Bible is silent; we"ll remain silent.” I know this doesn’t provide an absolute answer, but I think it’s probably safe to assume Moses at least considered his father-in-law’s relationship, but that did not keep him from being obedient to God. A great takeaway for us today would be to obey God above all else, even our own discomfort or pain. Pastor Mat Pirolo

Hi, That is a good question but God commanded them to kill the Midiantes as they were worshipping false gods and sacrificing their babies/children to them. They also had child prostitution for the temple prostitutes both male and female children! This sort of thing still occurs in some nations even today, I know it happens in India possibly Cambodia. So as these things were an abomination to God it mattered not that they were relatives of Jethro. Hope this helps.

Thanks Pastor Skip for another great sermon! That was really interesting what you said about 25%-33% of all Nobel Prizes in science, art, and literature have been awarded to Jewish people even though they make up only about 0.2% of the world population. It seems part of God's blessing on the Jewish people involved Him endowing many of them with extraordinary brain power!

What else have Christian's comprised in? I think of Christmas, Santa Claus candy canes this was all pagan, learn their true meanings and where they derived from. Jesus was born around Sept, so why are we not celebrating HIS birth in that month instead?

Actually you're wrong Balaam wasn't a prophet, you know nothing he was diviner doing divination learn the difference. See diviners are what polytheist called to do various things and some were called oracles, at this point prophets didn't exist before God insituted them through Moses. However Balaam became a real prophet because God spoke through him and it was not through divination. See your method of study has religio-political factional bias attached to it, see Balaam couldn't curse Israel he told Balak he couldn't even if for a palace of gold. So Balaam spoke the real words of a prophet as God gave him utterance. See you seem to not realize God didn't want Israel practicing divination as the Gentiles or Canaanites so God said he would send prophets or make prophets who spoke his words or saw visions that are in riddles by him. See I know the Torah well, Balaam is a Gentile so he would be a diviner, but the moment God spoke through him he did become a prophet. See a true Prophet is one who God speaks through and said things that upset people about God's judgement, a false prophet is one who speaks well and always says everything will be okay who God sends a lying spirit to who prophesizes falsely.

Oh Robert you must be SO knowledgeable, you do tell us that you know so much about the Scriptures, why on earth are you listening to such a man as Skip who in your opinion knows nothing? For myself, who also knows nothing, I enjoy listening to him as I feel I have learned so much from him. Perhaps it is just my nature but I always like to encourage people when they are teaching, or just in life generally as life can be so hard at times. I do feel that criticism is not nice to listen to and very hurtful when it is directed at someone who really does not deserve it. Perhaps you could start your own channel on KZread as you are clearly so well educated and have no need of other preachers when you know everything yourself. Perhaps ask yourself next time you want to say something negative, "What would Jesus have me say?" But then I am just an imperfect sinner!
