Some of this losses feel so much devastating, when you either see a tiny Country or a Developing Country, it probably took so much to come back from that. Nonetheless, every single life that was lost matter, I just wish they have peace now.

People lost moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and grandchildren. It was a nightmare and it’s important not to forget the lives lost so we dont repeat that.

Until you remember that WW2 was never fought on NZ soil, those 11700 are a huge proportion of the volunteers who traveled to the UK to fight, a large proportion of them in the RAF. Post-war calculations indicated that New Zealand's ratio of killed per million of population (at 6684) was the highest in the Commonwealth (with Britain at 5123 and Australia, 3232).

87,000 Indian soldiers died in WW2. Civilian casualties were inflicted by the Japanese NOT the British. Indians who fought under Chandra Bose (25,000, mostly deserters from the British Indian Army) fought, not terribly effectively, on behalf of the Nazis and Japanese, they had no influence on the British decision to grant India independence 2,000,000 Indians VOLUNTEERED to fight AGAINST Nazism and Japanese imperialism. Stop revising history!!

In honor of the fallen soilders of these counties I want to say a poem from my province newfoundland... In Flanders fields where the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row that mark our place, and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high, if ye break faith with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders fields.
