nuke_cameratrack_mayarender_nukecomp-dino
Tutorial on matchmoving with nuke's cameratracker, exporting to maya, inserting animated dinosau, rendring in maya, and then comping it in nuke.
The imagesequence is from some age-old maya-live training material.
The dinosaur is by Harry Gladwin-Geoghegan (downloaded through Highend3d/creativecrash)

Thank you for a workflow tutorial! I just needed to physically see a workflow to understand better how nuke works! I come from after effects, and so the individual tutorials on individual techniques helped, but didn't help me to put it all together like this did. Thanks! :D
Where was this video all my life ........ THANKS man.

amazing.. thanks
thanks bro
Hey, I have a beginner question. Why did you mask the soldier while tracking? or why do we mask anything while tracking? How does it make a difference except for the fact that there are no track points in the masked area?
Nice! What would you say the main advantage is of using Nuke over After Effects?

true, but it is an easy and quick way to do it..- exr is many things multichannels are one of them, but not all programs support them equally well.. Ive had many students getting into trouble when doing multipass exr's and trying to figure out how to split them in say aftereffects or even toxik, So one step at a time, but you are ofcourse correct. Thank you for your feedback.

ah yes.. you will probably need to manually relink those, it should be easy in the imageplane node
because you make him the guardian mask?
hey, how do you disable everything but one node in Nuke? I don't want to manually disable every single node. is there a shortcut??
@kurgandk

Emmmm can you given me a time when I do that?

søren kurgan jacobsen Thanks for your reply. I don't think you did that in your video. I was just wondering if you could disable all nodes except for one. For example, you press "D" to disable a particular node. However, i want that node to be active and everything else disabled by using a shortcut. Is that possible? Hope i made sense lol

+VFX Ltd™ im not sure what you mean by disableling everything else? you mean like soloing a layer in afx?
Thanks a lot. Did you animate the dino?

Nice tutorial. How do you view it in full screen, and how do you disable it at 38:38?

I have filmed a small sequence just panning and rolling. the depth of field is big and shutter speed is quite fast (over 1/200) the trackers are good and stay really attached to each element. but when I solve the camera and export it in FBX to 3ds Max, then the objects I add are not really following the camera motions. I've put 24 fps in 3ds Max though...

hmm max.. no I dont think it is max's fault ;) you say 'pan/roll' , is there any parralax in the video? ie: things at different levels moving at different speeds (think looking out of the window of a car, coleup stuff will move fast, further away slow) parallax is the way the matchmover figures out depth.. if you have a nodal pan (the camera is fixed) then you need to use 'rotation only' as your solve option, then you will not get depth, but the rotation of the camera will be passed. Other issues, could be the framesize in max not matching the matchmove?

Thanks for your very fast reply ! There is no paralax. I don't know how to have the camera framesize matching the video in background but I will try different things (I think it did match because I used something like Match the bitmap size and tried different settings). If after more tweaking I still have issues, I'll show you the video to know if it's trackable.

well you _need_ parallax for 'free camera' to work, in your case set it to 'rotation only' and solve again.

After spending the afternoon trying different settings, I've ended up exporting as .abc and I got something interesting with a FOV similar to my lens, but still some problems related with FOV I think, could you tell me what is wrong ? image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2017/08/1487699686-outsidetrackingfov.jpg
i am having trouble with importing. In maya 2013 sometime its not imparted fbx file, 2016 its ok but my image seq did not run it show first Image only. pls help

'13 ouch thats an old one.. can you elaborate what you mean by 'moving'? The camera _is_ syupposed to move according to the matchmove, and the imagepane should follow the camera?
the dino was sleeping, he should start running and yelling from the nowheres

it was some training material for MayaLive from Alias|Wavefront before the Autodesk days, I dont think its availabe . Since I only got the material with the product back then I dont think I can leagally share it sorry. But theres lots af similar sequences online, HollyWood Cameraworks has some noce sequences www.hollywoodcamerawork.com/tracking-plates.html , you can also check out my other turorial serie (after the initial intro I move on to another clip): kzread.info/dash/bejne/q2l61senaZbYk6Q.html
Hello, could you maybe point a link to the Dino clip? It was Very helpfull thanx

im sorry it came as part of some mayalive training material a long time ago, so its not my property
nice tut. but you should render out multi-passes, thats what .exr is for.. you shouldn't teach people to merge an object with itself to darken the shadows..
hahahahahahahhaha just after the crash WHAT THE **** lol nice tutorial
Kindly Upload the files for practice

these files were part of Maya Live materials (many years ago) I dont think I can publish them. In any case get any sort of moving camera video (I have used drone clips from vimeo before)
What?

+Rupal Kamani to make sure his movement dit not interfere with the matchmoving.. its not a big problem in this scene but in others it might
@jamiecfthedrummer

The software registers the actors movement as camera movement, and so it throws off nuke when it computes all the tracking points in order to calculate the camera movement

then mask out the charater before the tracker and set the tracker to use the mask
