Nucanoe Frontier 12 Vs Nucanoe Unlimited: Which One Should You Buy?

Спорт

I’ve bought and tested both kayaks and give my opinion of them both!
I love both Nucanoe kayaks BUT spoiler alert: The Nucanoe Unlimited is the better kayak for many reasons!
It's now my primary fishing kayak, and I use the Nucanoe Frontier 12 as my duck-hunting rig.

Nice review, thank you. I love all the features of the Unlimited, if only Nucanoe would get with the program and use through hull pedal drives instead of the silly cable, belt driven rear mounted nonsense they came up with. I need a pedal kayak that is designed to take motors front and rear. That is the ideal machine, versatile for any trip. They came SO close to that, but I can't have pedals and a rear motor of any kind at the same time, instead you have to switch them out, which is not possible on the water. The weight capacity is the best on the market and SO important. That fact that every kayak does not have a 360 swivel seat is a crime in and of itself. I freaking HATE trying to twist my body backwards to get something out of the rear of my OT 120 PDL, the whole rear area is wasted space because of this. But their PDL is the best there is. If Nucanoe would just put a hole in their kayaks, add a PDL like OT's or Hobie's and leave the rest of it alone, they would have the best fishing kayaks on earth. Regardless, I am saving up for a Nucanoe Unlimited to replace my OT 120 PDL because it is not user friendly for fishing at all.

Thanks! That would be the ultimate kayak hah! Yeah the seat ruined me too. I’ve tried other kayaks and like a lot about them… except I haven’t found one that’s as comfortable or convenient/functional as the 360.

I have the F12 and you hit the nail on the head about its drawbacks. It's a great boat in a lot of ways, but the drainage in the back tankwell is nonexistent. All the handles except the front aren't rigid, which makes it harder to load and move around. The lack of track on the gunwales is also a problem for mounting things like a paddle holder. Nucanoe was obviously aware of these issues, because they changed all of them in the Unlimited. I might have to sell my F12. Lots of other good kayaks out there, but the 360 seat and stability when standing is unmatched.

I have a frontier 12 and I really like it but it’s not 41 inches wide on top. They take almost 4-6 inches on each side. Would be awesome if it completely open

Hello Wesley, I’m a NE Oklahoma guy and I’m glad I ran across this video. I’m in the market for a fishing kayak and looking very hard at the Frontier Unlimited. As you know living in the NE part of Oklahoma you are a short drive to Missouri, Arkansas and SE Okla. so I’ll have access to many Rivers, Creeks and Streams. I want a kayak to stand up In because I’ll be fly fishing for trout and smallmouth. Some of my trips will be overnight camping along the way. I will only be using a paddle. So the question is how is the maneuverability through fast water, current, ripples. Not just on straightaway but also around small bends, logs and big rocks. Pretty much class 1 and 2 water. Thank you for any information you can provide.

So the handling is not the greatest but that’s kinda of expected with a big kayak. I fished the Lower Illinois a lot from a kayak, I’ve used my frontier 12 and it did the job but I prefer using my unlimited. During my trip this year down the LI they started releasing water and it handled the rising water like a champ. So I wouldn’t hesitate taking on class 1 maybe 2 with it but that’s about it because it’s not that maneuverable. If you ever wanna test it out I’m always down to go fishing haha

@@KayakKid hey thanks for the feedback. My big concern is standing up so I can use a fly rod. I would say 98% of the rivers and streams will have plenty of stop get out and wade fish. So really need to get Down the river to the next spot and stand up some. With that being said what would be another choice of a kayak for what I’m looking for? Around the same price range as the unlimited? Thanks for any input.

@@LIVE4THEADVENTURE The Unlimited is as stable as any other kayak I’ve tested but I like Bonafide kayaks too I know they have a river fishing kayak coming out in the next year, Hobie kayaks are more expensive but they’re good. I’d recommend doing to Tulsa Kayak and testing out several, they have days you can test kayaks every now and then!

I was looking to put a 2.5hp on my frontier 12. I’m curious if you do in fact have a 3.5 on yours. If so and it works I’d obviously want to go that route instead.

I would prefer it to be a little lighter so a 2.5 would be ideal but I also wanted a mud motor so I didn’t have as many options. Here’s the motor I put on my F12. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIuYvLNxitzghsY.html

I'm curious about how well the unlimited paddles in Class I and II type rapids.

  • @KayakKid

    @KayakKid

    Жыл бұрын

I'm not super familiar with categorizing rapids, but I would say I've taken it on class I earlier this summer. We were fishing a small river, and they began to release water from the dam above us, so it was moving swiftly. I had my daughter on it with me, and I never felt out of control or unsafe. However, I doubt I could paddle it against the current very far; it has a lot of drag, being a wide heavy kayak.

Great video. I've compared the F12 and Unlimited and not a fan of the F12 due to lack of scupper holes. I'm looking at getting the Unlimited and bow mounting a motor. I'm a 100% disabled vet, so I want a kayak to motorize. I'm also a track junky which is why I like the Unlimited

I'd guess it's because the floor in the F12's are notoriously umm.... "floppy?" so adding holes would really make them wobble up and down. My guess anyway judging from the two I've owned. Even when they sent out the foam block to put under the floor, it still wasn't 'really right. shame though. great boat otherwise - and some people's floors were worse than others, too - so there's that.
