NSWGR 59 class, pickup goods, between Gosford and Tuggerah, Winter, 1972.

Ойын-сауық

In the final Winter of steam in NSW, 59s still worked the Up and Down pickup goods and quite often crossed at Tuggerah as seen here.

A great little video thanks for the memories I worked those goods trains from Gosford to broadmeadow and back many times the 59 class was a good loco we had a few at Enfield.

More great footage; thanks for posting, Graeme. 5915 was the only 59 I ever managed to film in service, laboring up to Tickhole Tunnel 20.9.1972.

Good old memories, thanks. Travelled from Wyong to Gosford for high school until 1963 so a lot looks familiar. Millmaster Feeds on siding at Ourimbah then looking north at Chittaway Road bridge. The water tanks at Tuggerah sidings with the old The Entrance Road between the tanks and the station. Esrly 59's / Baldwin class were oil burners I recall

The sounds I loved living near Lisarow Railway Station. Great memories of 5915 pulling my school train.

Great video - thanks for posting. In the book Byways of Steam (No.14), there is a terrific article about Pick Up Goods No.269 that I’d hazard a guess you’ve clipped here in your video. No.269 would leave Enfield Yard at 2.57am, shunt at every siding, arriving Broadmeadow Yards at 4.30pm! (According to the Saturday working timetable from 1964). Thanks for preserving this bit of history 👍🏻

I always love Archive footage of steam, especially from NSW, I do own several BelbinVideo VHS Tapes. I was just wondering if there might be any archive footage of the Junee Roundhouse, hopefully including 1036 then numbered as 23 ‘Fanny’. As a local and volunteer, it would be lovely to see. Hope one day that we may get a DVD of these wonderful videos of steam as it was.

I do have a few shots around Junee but not great quality. Steam ended down there pretty early, I'm afraid. there is a clip on here around Demondrille.

@@BelbinVideo I have some information about when Steam ended around here, long distance around 1964 or 65, several 50 class locos were only finally withdrawn about early 1972 as by the end of the year, there was (and is) a steam crane here. I do wish there was more archive footage available in this area. Anyways thank you for answering my question.

Great locomotive these 59 class. Dept should have bought 50 instead of re boilering 36 class . 59s could handle about anything except express work.
