I love the original backwards compatible PS3 models. One machine that can play the first three generations of Playstation games, plus built in memory cards and even some features like smoother rendering to make old games look their best.

Yeah it’s too bad that’s it’s very hard to find one in good working order. Those ones broke down easily and were very unreliable.

@@redstratus97 if Sony made a console that played current to original disc's people would go nuts over it. Emulators don't have the same feel.

I have my ps3 slim from day one, still going strong. I did upgrade the hard drive to 320gb awhile back. Have tons of downloaded digital games installed. Awesome system. I had to replace my battery for dualshock 3. Rock on!!!!

These vids are great. So much information and you guys are super knowledgeable. Only gripe is I wish they were longer! All the best fellas.

I agree with you guys, over the past few months i have been finding amazing deals on ps3 games where new or even excellent quality used for significantly less than 20$ CAD. Keep up the good videos

Great video guys. Personally im ok with not collecting for consoles anymore. I came to a point where i left my main priorities in life aside over game collecting. It was addictive and nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Im focused on stacking up my paper.

It really is an amazing console. Do you have any hidden games for the PS3 you would recommend?

I got my playstation 3 super slim when it was new, I was late to the game of that system but I love it, I really feel its the last great playstation, the last time there was a substantial upgrade and even though it loogs like a toaster, I think it's the most durable version with the least mechanical problems to arise in that model. but I do buy a lot of the PS 1 games that I always loved...such a bonus! every once in a while I have to do upgrade downloads but that's fine. great video guys!

Great Video. I have around 100 give or take PS3 games that I have been collecting since 2014. Some of the games I have played through and some I haven't even played yet.

My friends & I used to call the PS3 Slim (Slide Top Model) the George Forman Grill cos that’s what it looked like 😂😂😂

i understand the hate for the superslim but due to die shrink on the chips, it uses half the electricity of the fat and it doesn't overheat/YLOD. I've refurbed my fat but most people won't. Eventually it'll be mostly slim and superslim that are out there. Fitting an SSD into these systems and installing a firmware of sorts is the reason they're great. You can even plug it into a CRT and use it as a very cheap emulation station. It's just a great little machine.

Another feature of the PS3 that people overlook is that it will play 3D Blu-Rays. I realized i had a 3D capable TV and tried it out and its awesome! Also, there are a TON of 3D compatible games on PS3, just look for the 3D logo on the bottom front cover of your games, you probably already have some. 3D is all but outdated, but this PS3 feature made me remember how awesome 3D movies can be! If you have a 3D capable TV or projector, try it out, you wont be dissappointed! Oh, and if you dont have any 3D Blu-Rays you can find them CHEAP! Enjoy!

awesome video and awesome collab!!! I've been telling my viewers for a while the PS3 is were it's at.

The time to start collecting was like 8-10 years ago when the PS4 was coming out and everyone was getting rid of there PS3 stuff for nothing.

I have 3 original PS3s (one needs to have the reballing process done). Two 60GB, and one 20GB. I’d love to grab a slim and super slim one day. Even though I have a RetroTink for Game capture, the PS3 is still the best way to capture PS2 game footage for my channel. Is the clearest and the largest dpi scale too by comparison because of the native HDMI out. PS1 is, of course, playable on ALL PS3 models (a lot of people are unaware of that). So game cap is great on there too, but a modified PS One Classic does the job great too. Gotta love that BluRay/DVD player in that PS3! Fun video, gentlemen! Thanks!

great video as always :) Fortunately i finished my personal fullset last year. 379 games and it took me almost 12 years😅 Definitly worth it though.

Actually alot of catalogue Blu Ray tites are going out of print and the ones that are still in stock are going for $15+. They are either being fazed out for digital or for a UHD upgrade. The ones people tend to go for now are Steelbooks and they dissapear fast on Amazon.

Blu-ray is a lot cheaper now. I wouldn't say 1$ but it is a lot cheaper, especially used.

It's crazy that we allpayed the $600 for this thing but got so much out of it. BluRay was world changing at the time. The PS3 is the Immortal Way. The exclusives are amazing. I played the heck of just Hot Shots Golf online. Also, play 3D Dot Game Heroes!

gosh i remember gamecrazys out here in AZ, almost every one was paired with a hollywood video. I remember when my mom and dad would go to pick out movies to watch for the weekend date night and i happily rushed over to the gamecrazy side to pick out a cheap game i wanted. it was pure heaven, we also went to block buster as well for rentals but i knew every time i went there i could get a game to own. Reading the box front to back 20x and playing the game was the greatest

picked up a ps3 super slim a couple of years ago for dirt cheap, threw in a a sata and been having lots of fun on it, dont mind missing out on the ps2 backwards compatibility missing.

Ps3 is such a cool system because most of its best games are 5 bucks or less at most game stores. The games being more recent and modern looking mean they have aged much less than the previous gen (funny how that works). I have pretty much everything I want for it and now just need to play them lol. 360 is the only modern system cheaper but so many 360 titles can be bought digitally for cheap on the series consoles that it's not as worth it to take up space collecting for it

I love both of my white ps3 super slims... they have 1tb hard drives and the sliding top means less hardware that can break.

Believe it or not, Test Drive Unlimited 2 is one of the most Expensive PS3 games i have seen. I have a PS5, But seriously with a 4K TV, the ps3 looks bliss!. The PS3 CPU is actually a beast!.

I just recently picked up a CECHA01 fully backwards compatible PS3 that does PS3, PS2 and PS1 discs, plus the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection (with artbook) plus Lollipop Chainsaw AND Splatterhouse. I'm jumping on this train too!

Love my ps3 ! just re-bought one , already got 40 games , they are like $1-2 each in thrift stores

I still got my 60GB PS3 launch system and it still works. I love that system, but I am worried about continuous play and it eventually overheating considering what it is. I am thinking about picking up a slim for playing games and preserving my 60gb system for collecting purposes.

A lot of digital releases got a physical release in Japan so look out for them.

The hd collections wre awesome on the ps3

Had good memories on PS3. I won a madden game for it out of one of those arcade prize machines. It was awsome.

I have a 3rd Gen fat model PS3 and I still play it to this day. Had to get the laser fixed years ago due to it burning out but other then that it’s been a great system. Use it for my PS1 games too. I have most of the PS3 games I want for it already. There is probably 2 or 3 I’m still casually looking for. But yeah I’ve been ahead of the curve on getting the PS3 games I want.

PS3 wasn’t my first console, but I really think it will go down as the best. Huge catalog of exclusives, the console is extremely durable, huge digital only store, that offered 1$ flash sales, but some all time classics like the Simpsons arcade game. Classics in every genre, and like 2-3 games per series, where as now it’s normally 1 per generation.

Got a BC 80GB PS3 with a PS5 hooked up to my oled, and a PS2 to a CRT. So if something runs poorly or doesn't run I have a back up.

I started collecting for ps3 almost 2years ago when i noticed how cheap the games are. The games are the best of the PlayStation consoles in my opinion. I have a decent collection for ps1-4 and the ps3 games are most fun to play for me. I really enjoyed the video thanks guys

PS3 is a great system! I was a late adopter of the system, but it was still being supported. That did mean that so many of the big classics were already super cheap, but things are only cheaper now - Yes, some hard to find games and collectables, but for the most part you can walk into a retro game store and comeout with a handful of quality titles for $20.

I just finally set up my Ni No Kuni Collectors Console (Japan exclusive), PS3. Now I gotta re-buy all the RPGs I never finished.

Ive been ordering ps3 games recently. Can't wait to play ICO for the first time in the remastered collection

PS3 saves purchased movies on the HD, so when the cable/internet goes out - you have a library of movies to watch.

My launch 60GB hit that yellow light of death. It was in perfect condition. Sent it to sony and they sent me back a scratched up on which eventually had the same issue. Fixed it temporarily and sold it to Gamestop. Wish I still had it. Now I have two slims which never failed.

Two underrated PS3 games: - R.U.S.E. -- A WWII real time strategy game, where you handle everything like it's on a strategy board, where you zoom in and they look and move much more realistically. I'm not into many RTS games, but I've played this one over and over. I wish we had it for later Playstations, as the Sudden Assault 4 or whatever it's called that is available on PS4 doesn't let you pan back the way R.U.S.E. let ya. By the way, the acronym doesn't have any meaning. I've looked around online, including the studio's site for the game, with no mention of what it is. - The Saboteur -- Keeping with the WWII theme, this is poor-man's Grand Theft Auto in Nazi occupied Paris. And it's brilliant, in my book. I love it, and it isn't even really complete. You see the cracks form in the programming in the final mission where you have to fight your way to a zeppelin or some aircraft to prevent it from taking off (something like that), and it's big and dramatic with tanks sent against you, but here I remember the graphics getting, well, rather silly. To be clear, I beat the game without bugs interfering. I would not call this game broken, in fact the rest of it is so great that the bugs near the end are somewhat charming. See, it was made by Pandemic Studios, a subsidiary of EA I believe, but anyway whoever owned them shut them down as they were finishing the game, and I guess from the result mentioned above, they were rushed to complete it and get it on the shelves. After this game was released, Pandemic, the studio that gave us the Mercenaries franchise and the first Star Wars Battlefronts, was closed. Honorable mention goes to Star Wars: Force Unleashed (but not the sequel). Heck, why not? The Battlefronts get an honorable mention too, even though they royally screwed up the Jedi element of it. Or at least they never should have included Jedi.

Was replacing the drive difficult?

I'm so happy i bought my PS3 last year! I bought one in 2008 and sold it when the PS4 came out. That's one of my biggest regrets to date when it comes to consoles and reselling them. I will never do that again. Lesson learned for sure! I bought a lot of PS3 games again for very cheap and all pretty clean! So i'm happy about that. My end goal isn't to own/collect all PS3 games though. Just the one i personally like. 🙂

Now's the time I'm being collecting for PS3 since 2007 still my favorite playstation own 2x 60gb 2x 20gb liquid one 60gb back in ,2011 still going strong video on my channel if interested 60gb is a beast

The PS3 is one of my most played consoles to this day. Very well oiled machine that has never let me down. I have a huge PS3 physical library but I don't collect for the system, simply because it's not old enough. BTW, it's hard to believe that so many people don't know about the ps1 compatibility.

Would have loved to see some PS3 game recommendations.

My PS3 is still my blu-ray player. I probably use it for blu-ray more than games anymore. Looks great on my 4k tv

All 3 of the ps3s I've had have not played blurays properly, i tried a bunch of brand new blurays on it and none of them play properly, they skip or play with no sound etc and these are blurays i had just pulled the plastic off of, never been used. I tried these same blurays in my ps4 pro and they play flawlessly. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

@@DP12321 fully upgraded, just had it checked over by a technician and new thermal paste last summer, it has never played blurays properly and neither have ANY of the ps3s I've owned in my life, even the 80GB I bought brand new did the same thing as this one. At least my ps4 pro plays them fine.

@@sugarhieroglyph That's very bizarre. I've had nearly a dozen PS3s since they came out. All fantastic Blu-ray and media players. I still prefer PS3 over PS4/5 as a media player for numerous reasons. Searching suggests reformatting the system or a laser issue. Can't be much else. Maybe you're just unlucky? Very strange issue to have.

Greatest Hits on PS3 are truly the best! 163 total releases (165 if you count the 2 technically released/not released GH titles). Tons of fun, but a few very hard to find titles now in that set.

I still got the ps3 fat, plays everything. Happy with that. No dust, keeping it and enjoy it every now and again. Got some games that are strangely expensive now, but back then nobody liked them. I did like eternal sonata, maybe one that games to the switch some day.

MotorStorm 😔 almost unplayable. But maybe we should mention that most games are region free, so the MotorStorm Complete Japanese version is the only game you can play a patched version of the game.

what makes it unplayable? framerate dips?

I know for a fact that Return Fire on the ps1 does not work on my ps3. I've heard it has something to do with a little used coding technique used on some of the early ps1 games and that there are a few others that don't work, but I don't know which ones.

Never had a ps3 or 360. Ps3 is extremely cheap now and it has some awesome classic games that still hold up. I bought one during lockdown and I’m loving it.

The ps3 is so awesome and always available for cheap. I have a few of them as wen I find them in a cheap bundle I’ll just pick it up even if it’s just for a couple of the titles.

For durability/ longevity of the console is the super slim better than the slim since it seems to have less moving parts?

I would go for the slim. When taken care of, dusted, and allowed ventilation during use, are quite reliable.

I’ve had a ps3 for 15 years and never knew it played ps1 games 😮

What games on ps1 that haven’t been remastered or brought back in anyway should I get?

Ive finished collecting ps3 4-5 years ago. I still get a few here and there. Now, im for ps4 and xbox one. I recommended 360 because it's far cheaper than ps3. If one want to collect it, there is a cheaper route. It's region unlock. There are great games outside the US counterpart.

I bought a slim ps3 a year ago and had no idea it could play ps1 games dang. Always thought it was just the fat model this whole time.

The ps3 is the one console of that generation that i never owned. Didn't have a lot of trouble with launch games and needed a ton of patches? Did that ever get cleared up?

I've had a PS3 since it came out and never knew that. I can stop looking for a PSX.

Some of My Favorite video games of all time are on the PS3! Although I know KillZone got started on PS2, KZ2 is one of the greatest FPS's of all Time in my Mind! UnCharted series, TLOU, Heavy Rain, GOW 3 and even though it was on the Xbox 360, Red Dead Redemption! What an Awesome game! 🤩

Play station 3 is a great powerful system. Love the light gun games on it more then anything.
