had a pretty nasty surgery to remove a tumor this month. i was anxious beforehand, crying a bit, felt out of control. when they slid me onto the operating table, i was still conscious, and they asked if i had any special music i’d like to be playing during the operation (even though i’d be unconscious). first thing that popped into my head was novo amor. i fell asleep to the first chords of this song, and when i woke up, the anesthesiologist stopped by my room to ask me the name of the band so she could go home and listen to it

I was just told that my mom has a tumor in her head and here I am listening to this beautiful song. I literally don't know how to process this. I have to look after my 4 year old brother and my two little sisters and I have to do the cleaning and the cooking because my mom also needs to get surgery. I'm 20 years old and I want to cry like a baby but I can't. Everyone around me is crying and I can't. I couldn't even cry when she told me that she has a tumor. I feel like I'm dreaming. So seeing you comment something I can kinda relate to was somehow making me feel good but also weird. I don't even know why I'm commenting this.

@@suedailhan6002 hi, i usually never leave comments but your story really touched me. i'm 19 years old and my family (especially mom) had to face a lot of health issues. i just want to tell you one thing: even if bad things happen, i hope you'll always find a reason to smile and to go on. life is tough but still beautiful. be strong but cry if you need to, the strongest people cry too. xx

It was Feb'20 when I first heard this song, I was in this confused state of realising and processing that the love I have for my childhood friend of 19 years was going to go unreciprocated. We had met after 14 long years and this time I believed we would be together forever. Your music is intertwined with that relationship, with the healing, with the lessons I have learned in these past 2 years of my 23 years of life. Your song calms me, breaks me, gives me hope. Gives me a feeling I have never experienced before.

You know how certain artists and their work enter your life at pivotal times and forever bear a mark on how you view the world? That's who Novo Amor is for me. I discovered his music while working on my grad degree in theatre--two of the most creatively intense years of my life. Ali's Birthplace album was on repeat as I wrote new plays, warmed up in dressing rooms, drove to rehearsals, and rendered designs. I simply could not escape the sheer beauty of his work. His vocals, the arrangements, everything just captured me. I thought if he can produce such achingly beautiful art, maybe I can too. Thanks for being such an inspiration, Ali. I hope someday I can hear you live in the states!
