The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 - September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

You can’t act as he does and expect the fans to respect you. You get what you give. Both Roger and Rafa are beloved because of their abiding sportsmanship and ability to rise above the situation throughout and after matches in public. Those cheering him are generally people who will tolerate any kind of behavior as long as someone wins. They lack standards and civility, as we heard when they were so incredibly rude when Medvedev was serving in the last set. Djokovic would have devolved into tantrums and excuses had he received such treatment. Medvedev played on through. But there’s no excuse for their behavior. Frankly I’d more expect that of the Aussies as they seem to enjoy getting plastered during matches.

I think what most people will miss is that Novak had an extremely tough 5 setter in the semifinals, he was just tired. Medvedev was costing with all 3 set matches. Not to mention he is 10 years younger. It's tough to even play let alone win when you're that exhausted...but I have no doubt Novak will be back winning slams next year.

Thank you, Novak. You are truly the best. And yes, thank you NY fans, because I do believe it's his tear of joy, rather than frustration. Because every time before, when he was on the court to win, there was always less support as compared with what his opponents got. But this time, when he is about to lose when he needs the support, and he gets it. That's everything to him now. Many times, I think one reason why he continues to climb the mountains is that he wants to earn the heart/support of the fans on the court. Cheer up champion! You still have a lot more to win!

Danil did not out play him, he was out of gas. Danil had no competition once Tsitsapas was out, and most likely he would have lost to him. Danil matches was three sets with 6-0 sets, he had plenty of energy left, plus he had more resting time, the US Open knew exactly what they were doing, smh.

@@cwalk8350 Yes, perhaps. But Danil deserves this win, i wont take away this from him even though im gutted for Novak. You have to beat what is in front of you, and thats it. Bad luck for Novak, but he was fantastic this season, and will be back stronger as always.
