Nova Scotia's Largest Forest Fire Ever Continues to Burn in Shelburne County

The forest fire that started in Shelburne County's Barrington Lake is the largest in Nova Scotia's history, at over 28,000 hectares. Many evacuees are hoping they still have a home to return to. The Weather Network's Nathan Coleman has the story.

It would have to be a very organized group of arsonists to choreograph and synchronize these fires across the country, coast to coast, down thru eastern States and Mexico too. Depending on where you live in NS the average yearly precipitation is between 40" to 65". In the last 12 months, Halifax/Shearwater received 50.54".In comparison the yearly average for Boston is 43" and Denver is 15". The trees down from Fiona have to be managed just as they are for all the hurricanes that have hit the US Southeast through the years and with warmer temps and wind people can no longer be careless as the margin for error has diminished. As usual in life everything is relative...NS is a relatively wet climate...even this past year, compared to many areas in North America. But the climate has changed and people's attitudes must also change or else your going to see more wildfires.

It's not like parts of BC and AB that are prone to wildfires on common occasions.. How is it that the whole country coast to coast burning? Crazy times

Why doesn’t anyone acknowledge the fact that the federal government has legislation pertaining to weather modification? Why isn’t anyone wanting to use weather modification to increase the precipitation in the area? Is this for a business strategy that has nothing to do with logic? Why hasn’t the weather channel not educating the public regarding weather modification? We can’t be honest if it’s just based on bias facts because that’s also a liability.

The Barrington Lake fire is definitely being driven by the fuel load in the wooded areas. We had another fire in Woods Harbour nearby that went out of control and burned to the sea. That was over 20 years ago and the forest just continued to be ignored with dead and dying trees from age and storms collecting like a giant tinder bomb for decades.

I live in Shelburne County and I just wanna say the three guys that started the fire and posted it on tiktok and snapchat have gotten no issues with the law and are hiding from everyone. There was video proof that has been taken down showing them starting the fire. Putting hay in a tire, setting the hay on fire and rolling it into the woods. Some people think they didn't mean for it to go into the woods but it doesn't matter it did go in the woods and they knew and didn't even call 911 they just left it laughed and posting the videos. Life has been going back to normal but not for those who lost everything. Homes have been burned. Pets have been killed. They may say no one was hurt from the fire but there is more than one way to be hurt.
