Nova Scotia House Walkthrough and Channel Update

It's been almost a year since I posted anything to this channel. Much has changed in our lives but we still own our home in Nova Scotia and I still want to create content for this channel. If you want to hear more about what life is like for us then please subscribe and follow our journey.

Yes, you don't have to be in Nova Scotia to make a vlog about life there. I have been there twice and enjoyed it immensely. But no, I don't intend to go a 3rd time. Yet that doesn't mean I wouldn't like videos/vlogs about the place. Your vlogs are interesting, and I would like to see more. As for North Carolina, mmmm not so much.

I am glad you are back uploading new videos. Nova Scotia is a great place to live but I guess not for everyone. Sorry about your house renter situation if you have to go through eviction process. Good luck in North Carolina.

Hi realy enjoyed your videos guess it's ok run life in South Carolina or anywhere else for that matter on the same channel as it's the content that realy counts. Zen and the art of motor cycle maintenance dealt with a lot more apart from the obvious. It's good to see how you deal with the hum drum of life on the move.

Glad to see you return. Please continue to post, especially content related to Nova Scotia. We bought a place a few years ago and are part-timers from Ontario. It's a difficult decision trying to decide if we should move there full time.

Hey, really miss your content and your excellent filming style. We just moved to Nova Scotia from Quebec in June 2023. How about differences in weather from one place to the other? Or public spaces in either place (more/less?) prices of common house items compared. The list could go on. I've often wondered how you and your family are getting along in NC. Really nice to see an update. :) We're in Lucasville, near Halifax and did the opposite of you (from a small suburb lot to a forested 2 acre lot with privacy)

Hi, thanks for the kind words! You know the weather in NC is predictably nice and easy to deal with. After hurricane Fiona I used to feel anxiety whenever the wind picked up and now I live in a part of NC where the wind and weather in general is much better. But man do I miss having space around me. I miss the land, I miss the people. NS was the first place I lived where I could see myself happily grow old (so long as I stayed healthy). I hope you’re enjoying it up there and wish you all the best!

So glad I found your channel! We moved from the UK in may 2022 to BC.. then we drive across Canada with our U-Haul and we lived in Northern Ontario for a while.. now we live in the Niagara region.. but now we are considering moving somewhere with warmer weather and a lower cost of living.. although Nova Scotia offers great beaches a lower cost of living and house prices it doesn't fix the winters.. we are considering North or South Carolina and Florida.. I would like to ask is your cost of living cheaper now also what about the wildlife in North and South Carolina I've heard they have a lot of snakes and spiders.. having lived in Australia we were glad to leave the creepy crawlies behind lol

Wow it sounds like you guys have had some adventures. I loved NS and it is way more fun than ON in my opinion. (Especially the beaches and the warmer north shore waters.) As for cost of living in North Carolina, it blows my mind how expensive it is here. But the lower taxes balance things out a bit.

@@LifeinNovaScotiathank you for your reply! Would you say Carolina is a cheaper cost of living than Nova Scotia for a family of 4?

  • @LifeinNovaScotia

I would say it balances out to be about the same. The size of houses are better here, the cost of groceries are slightly cheaper, the utilities are more expensive, medical insurance is expensive (unless it’s part of your salary). We pay $400 a month for gold standard health insurance and my boy spent one night in hospital with a bad allergic reaction and we had to pay an additional $2100. So yeah, it balances out I guess.

Hmm that’s a tough one, I don’t know much about Manitoba and I guess it depends on your job prospects there vs staying in NS. I know of one Nova Scotian who made the move and they seemed to be happy there, until work led them to Ontario. Personally I would miss being by the ocean.

Probably a big part of your renter problem is the desperate housing crisis in Nova Scotia. Your renters most likely can’t find or afford another place to live. In the middle of winter people are living in tents and campgrounds have been kept open for full timers because they can’t find housing. Even those who have the money can’t find the housing. This is not an excuse for bad or illegal behavior by tenants. Yet this may be what’s exacerbated your situation. I’m a Nova Scotian living in Denmark. Nova Scotia is now more expensive than Denmark. Never thought I’d see that!

Yes it’s getting worse everywhere. I heard about homeless camps in Halifax parks. The last thing I would want to do is have to evict someone but if I didn’t then the bank eventually would, if I failed to pay the mortgage.
