I just love when somebody makes a wonderful cover and makes it look like a total different song. That express a lot of creativity and talent as musicians

that should be the point of a cover song... make it your own. what would be the point of doing it exactly the same? none... it would be like painting someone elses painting...

I love Melanie Pain's voice and eyes. As Goethe said: all is permitted that pleases A song is never written to be carved in stone. I cant understand why so many hate this song because its not sung by Joy Division.

@Cynnx7 i am a Joy Division fanboy and think they were the greatest band of all time. This cover is absolutely beautiful and i just can't relate to all these haters here. It's scary to see how intolerant some people are.

A cover version of the song is rarely 'better' than the original - but no song should be put on a pedestal. This version shows a different way of thinking about and hearing the song, and I think that that's excellent.

this is way better than the album's version, especially because Melanie's finally singing in English and non in Frenglish :P

@@zee339 He probably hates Serge Gainsbourg and Leonard Cohen, too. I'm definitely saying he, because I've never met a woman who didn't get turned on when I played NV.

I think that this is a brave attempt to perform a 'holy grail' type song. I have heard other versions performed by David Gahan and The Cure. Those versions almost verge on boring as they are trying to capture the 'Joy Division' sound and don't really shed any new light on this song. So thumbs up for Nouvelle Vague!

Her voice makes my soul happy.

Once Ian Curtis said "The meaning of our song is not important. It depends on the person listening our song. Sometimes meaningless,but it has become to have mean. That is just like monkey typing letter. Later it will has mean." I think so many dislikes are not enemy. Probably, difference or matter of opinion. I vote for likes.

Nouvelle Vague don't cover songs , they empty them of their content, to make them look like small and insignificant sweet ballads sung by pretty girls.. saddening !!!!

Nouvelle Vague is so great because they have a very mellow European sound but they mix in the American and British pop songs; thus producing a delightful hybrid between whimsical listening and Pop. That's why they hooked me.

My hearing her/them doing this song is what lured me to buy the CD. I think it's very well done.

I know Ian wrote this as a semi-autobiographical piece but this is the best cover I've heard n a very long time.

What some people tend to forget is that people of all walks of life ( including Nouvelle Vague....why else would they cover it?) genuinely love this song with all their hearts and that they interpret in their own ways. This is in every way as authentic as the original, no jokes.

Even though it looks like they're in someone's back yard I think an outdoor setting is perfect for Nouvelle Vague no matter whose backyard they are in! While the original song could make one wanna drown themselves guzzling coldbeer in self destructive depression, this one makes you wannna sip martinis and not mind the paint thinner taste. Nouvelle Vague Forever!!!!

Anyone hung up over bands who do covers when its a band like this who are all about really good fun live perfomances needs to unwind and drop the EMO rage. Dont worry no one can touch the first Joy devision version but Im pritty sure they rock live + have given loads of people a really good night out. + damn sexy voice, great version glad its not just regurgitated either.

They have many different singers and they leave them to decide how the song will sound. And in my opinion Melanie Pain is one of most sensual voices that sang with them. All Joy division fans: its normal that you like original more. You have to listen to more sons of NV to appreciate their work.

How dare u say that!MUSIC is a form of expression! diffrent bands express songs differently, and when they cover a song, its because they are really impressed by that song and its creator and want to express it in their own light! Ian Curtis would be happy to see ppl like this covering he's work! leonard cohen for example has had Hallelujah covered by more bands and solo artists than u can count, each one brilliant!

From an American mate: Got to agree with you on this one bro. You're right -- so many musicians (especially when doing re-makes) miss the point that the music has to be felt, not just sung well. Otherwise we'd all just love great voices. It's about the art. It's not about feigning to be rock stars and looking pensive while singing.
