It certainly is sad to see them go but with HS2 on the way a bright future for us and our railway and so it should be we invented the railway and should be at the top table 🇬🇧💪💪👍😊 a high speed train capable of speeds up to 250mph can't wait

Never liked them myself. Not enough carriages, so difficult to find a seat a lot of the time, and if you did get one you could be staring at the side of the carriage with no window. Terrible seating arrangements. Give me locomotive hauled trains with 11/12/13 mk II or mk I coaches anytime.

I totally agree with you. We haven't such here on Italy.
Outstanding! You can't beat drivers eye views. You must do more.
You guys absolutely have the best diesel engines/trains out there. Amazing. ❤
Awesome footage!! Love the engineer view! And I also love being able to hear the DSD and AWS going off

Thanks for recording this! I'm currently recreating Kettering to St Pancras in a Transport Fever KZread series at around 1:5 scale, so this helps no end.
Not a massive train fan mate but you've excelled yourself with this video! Amazing footage, I take this train regularly for work and nice to see the driver's eye view of the entire journey! Well done!

Lovely sound in the tunnel as he opens up just past West Hampstead.
Fantastic 😀 my home mainline and plenty of places that I used to go 'spotting back in the day in and around Leicester. Could watch these videos all day.👍

Agree, there was no East Midlands Parkway Station just south of Radcliffe-on-Soar Power station (8:35) back in the 1970's! But isn't it a national disgrace and embarrassment that in 2018 this line STILL hasn't been electrified through to Sheffield?
In Italy there are not diesel-trains that powerful and fast, because all the main lines are electrified. The most powerful diesel-electric locomotive is the old d445, built in 1974, with a maximum speed of 130 kmh (80 mph). Wonderful video, congratulations. I apologize for my shaky English.

@giovannigino3675, it’s the same in Sweden. It’s only regional lines such as Håkantorp-Gårdsjö and Lidköping-Kalmar or freight lines that aren’t electrified. The fastest diesel trains there run at about 140 km/h, or 89,9919669 mph.
Thanks for posting. The way the train barrels through those stations, makes me think if you were on the platform you'd need to have your toupee on firmly.
Wonderful and beautiful video - thanks and regards, Dana.
That looks suspiciously like a requadrupling of the section from Kettering southwards! Thx very much for posting.

It is. I live in the Northamptonshire area and use this line often for commuting - they are adding a 4th line to Kettering (continues to Corby) and are also electrifying Bedford - Kettering - Corby.
Absolutely brilliant video. Thank you for taking the time to produce this. Going to miss the 125 like Concorde and the Boeing 747. Beautiful train.

ScotRail is keeping the HST in service and has no plans to retire them. They have just refurbished them and installed new sliding doors.
Best Class 43 Intercity 125 i have seen. With a great sound from the VP 185 engine 🇩🇰
Thanks for a great DEV. I particularly like the way you label the stations - for those of us on the other side of the world the geography can be a bit puzzling otherwise.
hope you do more of these they are fantastic
Not without some technical issues, but still a very enjoyable journey Nice to see the quadrupling being put back Thanks for sharing

i did the journey alot as a kid. loved the ride.
Use to love travelling on the hst sets, shame about their retirement. Great video

@44.15 Glad to see Desborough water towers still standing after all these years. Reminds me of when I lived there in the 70s
Loved that .but yes would of been great to see train coming in to full stop in london station
Nice video!
These class 43s will be around a long time yet i hope far more comfy than whats out there now and i can feel the power as it goes along....superb

Can't understand why grown men get so thrilled by such rail videos. As a kid I like most boys were keen train spotters but we grew out of it during maturity.
Awesome this is !
I was expecting the ticket checker. Lol 😆
My first ever HST journey was yesterday on that route
Though I'm on the Derby leg (From Long Eaton), this is still a cracking run from the Nottingham leg..... Just wished it was possible to hear the good old Paxman Valenta scream once more (Also risking possible hearing loss!)..... Still, the VP185 puts in a worthy effort.
Excellent! Thanks for posting.
From Bedford onwards a good illustration of how the catenary contact wire intentionally zig-zags. Near the end, Belsize Tunnel was London’s longest Network Rail tunnel until HS1 built.

The zig-zagging is known as stagger; it's designed to even out the wear across train pantographs.

The high fencing from 3:37 is Sims scrap yard. Back in the 80's when it was still McIntyre's the huge machine that shreds the metals had a failure & a piece of it shot out & hit a passing train. I suspect the fence went up soon after. They still use their siding to transport the shredded metal out. You can see the siding at 3:45
Great Video! what camera did you use for the DEV? Plus did you have to get permission from the T.O.C. company to film in the cab?
Fantastic video. What an inadequate terminus St Pancras is, both in terms of number of domestic platforms and customer facilities.

A great video with the side angles of the train whizzing by as well besides the driver's view.
Beautiful trains the h s t 125.
Interesting contest of acceleration leaving Luton: HST vs class 700. Thameslink draws ahead but we catch it up at Luton Airport!
Great video!!
Wow many bridges have been adapted or newly built for electrification north of Bedford. Shame it wont reach as far as Nottingham and Sheffield or Derby. Looks like some catanary masts have been replaced by new ones just near Kentish Town. Exciting video.
Hi! Was this the diesel loco or the driving trailer the video was filmed from ? Excellent one! Thanks, Dana.

@Caslon159
5 жыл бұрын
From the state of the landscape (trees still bare) and the timing (arr Leicester at 1655) I think this was filmed in March 2018 - my guess would be between March 21 and 24 - later than this it would have been lighter (daylight saving time); earlier than this it would have been darker on approach to St Pancras. Also new Thameslink stock seen several times which was only introduced in 2017/18.
Amazing experience. Great video. Would’ve been nice if you could have filmed the controls when leaving a station and coming to a stop before a station.
How did you get this footage???
Why didn't you show the train coming to a stop at St Pancras station? Anyway, great video

How fast do they go?
At about 1:04:00 there's a tunnel, with a speed board before it saying 100. After the tunnel, there's another speed board which I think says 120. Yet the train doesn't slow down before the tunnel. Measuring the time to pass the platform at Flitwick indicates that it is indeed doing about 125mph. So is it exempt from the tunnel speed limit?
@TrainPlaneHub
6 жыл бұрын
HST's, such as what this train was often have their own speed boards. Such as the one in front of the tunnel. Where if you look closely says 100. But underneath it says HST 125. So for high speed trains, like this one, it is cleared to continue at full line speed. As it does.

I've noticed that in Moleman's video of 40145 in TS, I think it's because the MML is electrified from *Bed* ford to St *Pan* cras
Lol the view (and probably all) from the station, wasnt that train, because on the video at the platform he was clearly standing outside on the platform that on the train theres no one there at all!
Great video mate...awesome Fast Track ride...all the way whole journey...!!! ~ One thing I did notice was "Unusual " Signal Repeaters " around Wellingborough / Bedford area.." GREEN ONES " I have never seen Green ones before..!!! ~ Love the Midland..best railway in my opinnion...well at the moment it is, until they ruin it with frigging wires & rigging etc..have always liked the scene just south of Platform 1@ Market H ' where the New & the Old unite...i.e the New Tech Signal Rig..& just to the left of the rig the lovely old Yard light...hope they never ever get rid of that they look so nice indeed together.....Also its my home track..being as I live in Leagrave..!!! :)
@ChangesOneTim
5 жыл бұрын
They are three-position banner repeaters. The green tells drivers that not only is the signal ahead clear but it's at green. A white 'off' at this type of banner means that parent signal is clear but showing a yellow or double-yellow.
Having the HD was a good idea but lost looking through a dirty window..))
all the bridges on this route look as though they've all been rebuilt and made higher as if they are preparing for the electrification of the line which would be a good idea to do is electrify the route to cut time off the journey
Love hst....100mph and engines seem like in tick over...not a murmur...they built em to do the job and more. at 30:36 is that a wheelchex unit yellow on track left ?
@paulanderson79

The Pxman Valenta engines were very high revving for their era. Peak power (2250bhp) I think is at 1500 rpm. The rationale is weight reduction. Smaller engines need revving higher to develop power. From memory these are only something like 80 litres swept volume. Hence the turbo scream under load. Great pieces of machinery.
Love these cab views but not the noisy ones>
