@@bostonrailfan2427 they don't just have drums. For example, Jackson State Sonic Boom has a 250 member band with every instrument imaginable. It's obvious you've never watched an HBCU band. Try KZread. Here's some suggestions besides JS. Florida A&M, Southern, Prairie View, Alabama A&M, and many more. Saying that those bands are all show and can't play quality music sounds a tiny bit racist.

The Irish who built ND did this very much on purpose. ND was built when thousands of famine Irish immigrated to the USA. Because most were poor, Catholic and illiterate they were hated…by groups like the Know Nothings and the KKK. And by individuals who posted NINA signs in their business…No Irish Need Apply. Irish we’re caricatured in major newspapers cartoons as dirty smelly ignorant apish papists. This began to change slowly during and after our Civil War…when Americans noted that the new Irish Americans and their descendants were fighting in the thousands….and dying in hundreds….to defend the Union. So American Irish decided to own the green, the leprechaun, to show the shamrock with pride…and defend the Catholic faith. ND was started by a French Order…hence the name….but so many Irish students came, they dominated. Father William Corby had been a Chaplain in the Union Army during that war. He later was stationed at ND, rising to the presidency. He had given the most famous battle blessing of the war to the men of the NY 69th….the most famous Irish Brigade of the war. After the war in the 1920s, the KKK rallied in Indiana and decided to March in South Bend. Where ND is located. Students got wind and went to town, where some Irish heard the Klan was planning on marching on ND and torching the university. Well this caused a little fight. Fr. Corby intervened, convinced the sheriff to kick the Klan out and threatening any student who would still fight with expulsion. This episode, along with the reputation of fierce loyalty and fight in the war, caused the students to name their sports teams…the FIGHTING IRISH. Sorry this is so long. My grandparents were from Ireland a hundred years ago and we’re proud of Ireland, family and their faith. Like the fighting Irish. If ya take the piss outta someone you make them look stupid. ND made real prejudice look exactly as ignorant as it is. God bless the USA. Erin go Bragh. 🇺🇸🦅🇮🇪
