Why is this comment section giving their band so much shit just bc they aren’t playing while marching in or Bc they aren’t wearing Irish clothing, but does it really matter. And Ik all they do is yell “here come the Irish” but it’s still a cool thing to watch. I think we should appreciate what they are doing bc not only have they got the talent to play an instrument but Bc the band is a huge part of the football experience. (This is just my opinion I’m not trying to offend anyone by saying this)

Founded in 1842 by an Order of French religious priests, brothers, and nuns (St Mary's College is on West side of US 31. ND on the East.) There are 2 lakes on the property, so they named the college they were there to create, Notre Dame du Lac (Our Lady of the Lake) after the Jewish boy's mother. Why French? This area and Indiana was "discovered" by De La Salle in 1679. So only 16 years into Statehood, Indiana still had a large French ownership & population. Then the Frenchies evolved into The Fighting Irish after UMers taught the ND Lads the game of Football in Nov 1887.

tell me why would such a high ranking SCHOOL wear such outfits if they had not researched their origin, it appears to me you are another whining little minded person, with no knowledge of Irish History, or of Irish history in the US, IN ALL HONESTY you do not have a clue what you have made a reference to, look up the origin of the KILT/CELT/KELT / the original names , IRISH names of an IRISH Garment , Brian Boru

There is a lot of confusion as regards the KILT and the colours associated with such. The KILT is actually IRISH. There are Books available with information which explain all this perfectly. The Kilt worn by the Scots today are a replica of the KILT designed for an ENGLISH King because he refused to ware the Scottish Dress. The Irish were known for their very colorful dress back in the 16th- 17th centuries . There are books with beautiful illustrations of the IRISH Dress then by Dutch Illustrators. The ancient Irish loved bright colours men of noble birth especially.
