The amp is effectively a Bluesbreaker JTM45 but with the luxury of master volume. I had a Bluesbreaker for a while and it required way too much volume at home to make it "kraaang," whereas this amp has that sound in spades but is playable at home volumes. Such a shame Marshall discontinued it.

Don't get me wrong I love my Marshalls but I found the majority of the sound comes from greenbacks. Myself I actually like Laney a little better it has some more meat and potatoes than the Marshall. Truthfully though if you know how to dial in a good tube amplifier and you got a nice cabinet some good speakers you can pretty much get any Tone if you know what you're doing. I used to own two vintage Sunn tube amplifiers running 2-412 cabinets loaded with Electro-Voice sro speakers. I have to say that was one of my most memorable amplifiers. One head was actually a bass amp it was the 200s model I believe which later I used in a band with a Ric 4001 stereo bass into a 2-15 center baffled port PV cabinet loaded with jbl's to this day I have never played through any bass amp that was so magical as that set up. I would have to say I think my favorite Marshall would be the 100 watt bluesbreaker combo and the jtm 45

I had the head version of this amp (loved it, but had a bigger Marshall anyway, so moved it on for a Fender) - the cheapest way to solve the volume issue at home is to get a JHS Little Black Amp Box and run it through the effects loop - instant master volume! You’re welcome. 🙂

Yes, and no. Using volume control in fx loop does decrease the input for the PI and power tubes, where quite a lot nice things happen for SV. It leaves you with pre-amp gain and quite flat responce from the power section. Using a good attenuator after the amp gives better results.

@@tadask.4931 Maybe so, but I don’t think most guitarists wanting to run these a bit quieter for the sake of those in their homes are going to be overly concerned with flat response from the power section. The JHS is a perfectly acceptable (and more cost-effective) choice if you just want to enjoy the overdriven tones of this amp without destroying your ears, or your relationships with those who live around you. 🙂 FYI - I ran one for ages like this, and it never felt lacking. 👍

@@superflea72 a good amount of the distortion comes from the power section. Messing with a vol in the fx results in a lot of good tones, for a lot of reasons! For the moment I'm keeping the fx loop off though.

They sound good but I have the SV20h and anything less than a 1x12 is a serious disservice and a 2x12 or a 4x12 is even better. A good tube amp requires at least a "12 speaker.

Tube amps sound and feel great isolated, but can you test this opinion in the context of playing with a full band on a stage? Compete with a drummer, a singer and a bass and rhythm player and lets see if there is a major difference.
