Never underestimate the power of "democracy", it is the reason why they create crisis after crisis and no one goes to prison, and make billions off govt contracts, the best system in the world for the wealthy class always has and always will be.

I think in the very early days of when the ‘fast track PPE lane’ was being scrutinised by the Press and it was first intimated that Baroness Mone was involved it was said that her private secretary (or similar individual) had resigned and set up a Limited company with £100 to provide PPE and that Mone had merely ‘suggested he could help’. She denied any part in the Company claiming the man had resigned before he registered his new company. In truth it was opportunistic from the very start. Her husband is a billionaire, she is a multi-millionaire and still they are greedy for more. Shame on them.

What about Boris who handed the contract to her

She should have qualified the statement of "it's not against the law to lie" with, when in the public space - everyone indulges in it from advertisers to sales people and celebrities (think of the Sussex duo). However, in a court of law there are penalties for perjury. She is splitting hairs as politicians are want to do.

It’s been worth it if you can lobby your own business at an extortionate rate. It’s also been put in a trust to undoubtedly avoid tax. November 5th should be a day of commiseration not celebration.

If Mone was indeed trying to protect her family (more likely herself), she should have responded to press questions with the stock, 'no comment'. To lie and, when found out, simply say, 'lying isn't a crime' demostrates her breathtaking selfishness, and her willingness to exploit both taxpayers and her position in The Upper Chamber for mercenary purposes. If any mechanism exists to expel her permanently from The House of Lords and to deprive her of any more associated 'perks', it must be implemented irrespective of whether the criminal investigation finds against 'The Baroness'.

It is for the police to decide if a crime may have been committed and for the courts to decide if they are guilty as charged. The person accused does not get to decide if they have committed the crime, but obviously they can claim innocence. Unfortunately we see this so many times every year with politicians and Private Eye is good at exposing them, so it must be common when a newspaper is dedicated to that activity.
