    I also have a Shimmy 12 and have had it for 20 years. It's as good as they say. Mine is an original rig: no boom and no battens in the sails. I sail it on the Broadwater on the Gold Coast SE Qld. and apart from the jet skis it is the perfect environment for the boat due to the many sandbanks. It is a very dry boat and handles well in a blow. I have been thinking of putting a furler on the jib now also to make it easy when I'm solo. It's the perfect boat for me. The only changes I have made is to strengthen the area where the mast passes through the deck. I have had the wife and 3 kids with me when they were young but now can comfortably sail with 2 grown up sons and me. Thankyou Derek Ellard for your brilliant design.

    Yep hopefully Steve will have it finished by Easter. I'll get another update next weekend, as it's the Boat fest open day at the boatshed. John's Shimmy was really nice and went well considering there wasn't much wind on the day. Thanks again for watching, cheers Paul

    A very beautifully made video Paul, and such a pleasure to have small boat sailing promoted in this way. Small boats are easy to use, low cost and low impact, but pay big dividends in enjoyment - less boat, more fun! Keep them coming, and many thanks!

    Paul I have so much enjoyed you channel. I would love to come and sail with you. Problem is I have to launch at my local marina in Alabama USA and traverse down to the gulf coast then travers the Panama cannel then traverse the Pacific ocean, all in my 15" dingy. It's on my bucket list. I'll hit you up when I arrive. Cheers

    @@SailingKateLouise I am in Clearwater, Florida, USA. There is a dingy cruising club here called West Coast Trailer Sailers. I am going to build a 4.8 meter sailing catamaran with a cabin on it for dingy cruising designed by Bernd Kohler. The boat I already built is a micro-skiff. How do I send pictures?

    Beautiful video ! So peaceful . I really love those little wooden sailboats. But I think I’ll stick to my plan of driving through Europe in our RV and taking my inflatable dinghy with me to go daysailing. AND I can sleep very comfortably at night. I really enjoy this. THX for your ideas Paul.

    I think he needs to get his skids on his trailer sorted, it's just supporting the boat with the first few inches of the skid and you can see the paint is gone in that spot. The whole idea of skids(as I'm sure most know) is the full length is supposed to support the boat, not just a few inches and on such a harsh angle. I hope i'm not coming across as a know it all, I just don't want to see him damage his boat after all the good work he's done

  • @George_Zip

    @George_Zip

    5 ай бұрын

    I think I heard him say that the skids (trailer bunks) were only lowered for launch & retrieval, so they are probably raised up and supporting along their full length for travel.. 3:35
