    As a rising 9th grader, this helps a lot! I never see teams post their ENB online which makes sense, but these videos help a lot. I love looking at them for inspiration. Honestly, I might switch to digital now. Anyways, huge credit to you for posting this online to help out new teams and veteran ones. It’s honestly already helping me out. Great notebook, don’t know how you did it lol

    Hey Logan, you mentioned quite a few times retaining the feel of a hand-written journal for for example judges who were used to the old format. Having the physically-bound digitally-made pages works really nicely with this, and I tend to favor the crisp pages and book feel of it as well, but we don't have access to a pre-bound book like that that we could paste pages in. Last year, we typed everything on a google doc and then printed the pages out to put in a binder. Do you have any advice how to bring the book feel to it digitally, for someone who can't scan/take pictures of a physical copy like that? Would it be worth creating something such as a digitally hand-written signature to have in the google doc at the end of entries, rather than simply typing the names? For the credibility, as you mentioned, I think our journal followed that well enough because we used a program to digitally time-stamp them to ensure they weren't edited after, so this I am not too worried about, but I do feel like our journal was missing the feel captured by yours very nicely. Any advice you have would be appreciated.

    Awesome notebook! How advantageous/impactful do you think the physical/printed element was? Do you think a lot of judges prefer the original feel of a paper notebook and might subconsciously favour them? Thanks

  • @515Revision

    @515Revision

    Жыл бұрын

    We believe the component of signed pages aids in the notebook's credibility, as it 'locks in' the timeline of events that may otherwise be altered if each page was manually added in a binder of sorts. Appealing to judges, in our opinion, is less about making the information pretty and beautiful, and more about making it easy to find. This is where the tabs, side colors, and big-bold titles comes in clutch. The quicker they take to find a page, the more information they will read, and, potentially, the higher the grade will be received. Its important to note that all of these visual shenanigans are far less important than the actual information in the notebook. A notebook with great information is a great notebook. The actual format and presentation is to give notebook judges more time to read the pages they are looking for.

    Our code section were generated with a package(extension) on Atom, the old IDE for PROS. It converted a file of code into a pdf, which we drag-and-drop into the slideshow project. Unfortunately, I do not believe Atom no longer allows new downloads to packages; so I am unable to point to a solution. All other visuals on program entries are from Google Slides Shapes/Lines.

    @@515Revision Ok thanks! Also I'm just wondering what templates you use? I see Eztemplate and Okapi mentioned somewhere in the code, but what do you use them for, and is there anything else that you guys would recommend? Thank you! 😄

  • @515Revision

    @515Revision

    Жыл бұрын

    We used EZ template for pre-tuned PID drive movements. Okapi is a prebuilt library in PROS and has a wide variety of uses. The one we used for most of the season was it’s chassis builder, which is drag-and-drop odometry. In the final months of the season, we used JAR-TEMPLATE, one of the best Vex-Code templates, and rewrote their odometry code in PROS. Finally, we highly recommend checking out Sylib. It’s a library that filters motor velocity to give a more accurate reflection of the actual motor velocity.

    What websites/applications did you use for your Gantt and pie charts?

  • @515Revision

    @515Revision

    Жыл бұрын

    Gantt charts: Lucid Charts Instead of having a automated Gantt chart, we manually moved/resized boxes onto the canvas to create our timeline. We recommend looking to automated options, however, because our Gantt charts took a while to complete. Pie charts: Google Sheets We highly recommend using Google sheets for most types of charts. It is really quick to use and has a decent result. The main beef we had was that the text was small, when importing to the slideshow. This can be solved by resizing the chart on the Google sheets end.
