Apple notes!!

Biggest strength for me on Notability is the built-in splitview (and that you didn't cover on your review) which you can adjust freely (instead of two instances of the app managed by iOS). But, I'm also a major hater of the new floating toolbar.

I'm new to Notability, and like yourself, I realize that I still prefer Good Notes, especially the updated version. Thanks for the review.😊

I have used notability for several years now. Mostly I use it for importing articles or book sections I have to read for classes. Simple annotation is all I need to do with this, so I’m happy with that and won’t give it up. I’ve also used it for downloaded knitting patterns and it is easy to make notes on them as I work on my knit projects. But when I started digital planning I went with Goodnotes and wouldn’t want to even try that in Notability.

Compared to goodnotes,the three significant weaknesses of using Notability is being unable to add new page easily and not being able to change the page with different templates and the last one is no AI earaser to earase words and sentences by scratching.

This felt like a very well researched and put together review and I feel these are all valid points. I tried Notability and Goodnotes for a month, and have just bought the plus version of Notability as it's perfect for me as someone who just wants to take basic digital notes. (I'm 40 and still very much a paper and pen person!) The simplicity appeals most to me but I can completely see how Goodnotes would appeal more to experienced digital note takers and those who use planners etc. Thank you for sharing your insights :)

So I want a app that I can use to take notes whilst I’m quoting jobs, then add them notes to certain dates in a diary for when I’m actually on the job etc. can I do this with normal notepad on iPad or do I need something like this?? Thanks

I prefer notability because it gives me fewer problems with iCloud syn. Also, the number of the page disappeared with a recent update and the tool bar also has a little change, so I'm very happy :)

i've already said goodbye to Notability, not because of their subscription, but because of the stickers. Very limiting!

Omg, let us have the ability to dock the toolbar in the top! I don't want a tiny toolbar hanging over my stuff, and I have to scroll in the toolbar also! Jeez!

It’s difficult to choose a note taking app. I went with notability because I could adjust the line height 😄. With good notes there’s too much friction. First I had to register, then I can even use the app without starting a $8 trial.

Notability wins: text boxes (can have 3 presets vs only 1 in GN which obviates the whole pop up font selector for me); better writing; less clutter on screen IMO (GN toolbar at the top seems to be taking up more and more of the screen vs can fill whole screen basically with document in Notability; page counter thing in bottom corner disappears until you touch the page again); image tool (easier to resize although disadvantage cannot change dimensions but that is also what makes image/sticker tool in GN incredibly finicky particularly with small images); full page typing (not using text boxes) works WAY better than in GN; seamless scrolling (hate the pull to add page in GN); smaller file sizes; less hassle to use PDF links GN wins: page linking (FINALLY); better organizational structure (for me anyway); elements are life; easier to import documents and templates; better templates in general (Notability default templates look almost the same as when they first started); selection tool lets you separate highlights, text, writing, etc; outline option for documents (although really they need to add nestable outlines); finally entered the 21st century and added a color picker - no more HEX codes; supports multiple instances; allows you to export PDF with links intact (have not figured out how to do that in Notability - which is a BIG problem) That said - I still mainly use GN - although I have found GN6 to be incredibly glitchy as of late. That has me looking for other options - but somehow I always wind up back at GN - glitches and all.

You should try Element Note.

Ugh just bought it the sorting system is garbage.. importing files is a pain in the... too. Doesnt automatically scale it to the page etc. I regret not having bought goodnotes.. oh well.

Not cool comment that serves no purpose. Point 1 it is not even accurate. As someone who TEACHES public speaking her naturally delivered modulation is excellent. To attempt a tone that is not natural to the speaker comes off as inauthentic. I have be bouncing on different note app video and aren’t even into digital planning per se and she kept me engaged long enough to read your comment. Before ripping on someone else’s voice, I suggest linking to your own more watched channel to show her how it’s done.
