🤣😆 The hate is completely justified. I loved this video! I've observed that this year, in particular, the quality of certain brands has taken a significant nosedive (... acrylic sweaters,...), all while the prices continue to climb. I understand the concept of inflation, but there's simply no excuse for offering us Forever21 quality at the price range of $100 to $200 and more... we're not stupid 😡💔💸

I’m so glad Jennifer actually looks at what the fabric is and calls out the low quality of the material used. So many people (I notice it especially among KZreadrs) rave about the softness of the fabrics without mentioning the actual fabric. I have not found one of the complimented “soft” clothing pieces that is not cheap synthetic fabric. 😢

These stores have realized the majority of women shop online so armed with clever marketing, a beautifully photographed collection and often positive reviews they’ve paid for, they ship this crap out to you knowing how many us don’t return things by mail or miss the deadlines etc. I am beyond grateful for your reviews!

My mom calls them FashionNova & Fitch 😂 Most people don’t realize that this company put themselves on the map in the late 90s by selling quality garments at regular malls they literally trademarked “casual luxury” but all that was shrouded by all their controversies in the early 2000s. Now this rebrand is a perfect example of how much fast-fashion, trends and dupes have de-synthesized the clothing industry, people nowadays don’t know what real quality and craftsmanship is.

It’s crazy because almost any segment of the clothing market is all about the same quality but at varying prices. The only difference is the brand name. This is the LVMH effect at work. We can table the talk on how all their brands went to the gutter, with Loro Piana following suit shortly.

So when they first rebranded a few years ago everything was super high quality and they had a lower price point to bring people in. The sales were incredible and because most people didn’t know yet you could wait on things till they went on sale. I think as they have ramped up production they have let quality go. All the cheap fabrics have been killing me. The cotton sweaters are worth it.

I have an early 1960s heathered robin eggs, blue three-quarter length sleeved woman’s cashmere cardigan from Abercrombie and Fitch. It is so beautiful and it has definitely stood the test of time. I get so many compliments on it and it always fits me no matter what my sizes. I’ve been wearing it since about 1998 when I was in high school, it was my mom’s older sisters when they were in high school, and somehow it got passed on to me. Even the tag is a work of art. When I get compliments on the sweater, I will sometimes say “check this out!” And show the person, the fancy tag, and then they say, “whoa, it’s Ambercrombie and Fitch, I can’t believe it!”.

You need to know what to get at Abercrombie. Their premium heavyweight line of tees are great. Good weight, good soft fabric, 100% cotton, and double stitched. Most of their linen and cotton blend fabrics that are majority linen or cotton are great. I agree that a good amount of their inventory is fast fashion with cheap ugly fabric. I’m still obsessed with some of their premium pieces, though.

I used to love Abercrombie, I began shopping there in 2004 or so because I loved their jeans. Probably 10 years ago they started introducing jeggings and this is when I noticed all of their clothes quality started going down hill. Then it becoming super trendy again (cus people forgot about the old CEO at this point I suppose) in the past 2-3 years was the final nail in the coffin IMO. The prices are also sooo much more expensive than when the clothes were actually worth buying.

Thanks for such a thorough review! I've also been disappointed by some of their stuff, so I've been very cautious when it comes to buying things from them. I bought the Sloane pants last year, and the hem fell down after a couple of wears, so I had to restitch it. They definitely also pill, as you suspected. I also got a faux leather puffer from them, and that snagged on everything and fell apart within the month, so I returned it. I recently purchased another pair of the Sloane pants. They were on sale but still cost a bit more than I thought they were worth. I noticed that the material felt noticeably cheaper and thinner than my last pair. They have the elastic backing, but the elastic doesn't seem to add anything to the pants, as the waistband doesn't stretch.

I agree that Abercrombie's marketing is superior to their actual designs. I kept hearing good things about Abercrombie lately and how much of a revamp they've had, but whenever I check out their website, I find most of their clothing designs to be pretty meh. And I also agree that their clothing is pretty expensive relative to the quality and the materials used. I prefer the cut of Express' clothing (especially their tops and blazers), I find them to be flattering. And Express has better sales.

As someone who can never find jeans that fit their curve love jeans are amazing. I usually am lucky with their clothes. I have dresses and tops that look very high quality. And their cut is actually great if you’re not skinny which most brands don’t get right. The cardigans I got are made from cotton.

It’s so sad, Abercrombie used to be my favourite brand 10-15 years ago, cause then they had unique designs with actually great quality (my mother is a master seamstress and always was pleased by them, especially the dresses). However since their rebrand a few years back, they changed from cotton and wool to polyester and when they included sales as well everything went down south and now it’s just like Zara.

Hi Jennifer ! Love your videos and tips on instagram ! Just wondering if you can do a video on how you care for and wash your wools and cashmere knits that need some extra caring for? Is there a specific routine you do while washing them?

Can you do a video on caring for clothes? You mentioned fabric softener… but I keep seeing entire videos and shorts about why you shouldn’t use fabric softener and dryer sheets. Only recently saw that softener can help reduce pilling though.

Very interesting video! Thank you! I will pay more attention to composition from now on. 😊 Honestly almost all the items in this video are things I don't really like (just not my style), so I guess that's why Abercrombie is not bad for me. 😅 I agree with the coats though!!! They look good in the pictures, but when I put them on, something's missing. It is just not it!!! I gave it a few tries in the past couple years, then I gave up. Same thing with their shoes!!! Even their staff told me nah don't get shoes from them. 🤣 Like other comments say, it's really a hit or miss with Abercrombie. I shop there (on their website) all the time. I can find good fits in their skirts, summer dresses, winter dresses with thicker material (but soft), also bodysuits with the same type of fabric as the winter dresses I like. It's really hard to describe in words, but there are a few types of materials/fabrics which work well. Most of the pieces I got from them hold up well too. (I wash in cold water and hang dry only. I don't like to use dryer for my cute pieces. lol Maybe that helps?) It is really sad that A&F's quality has noticeably declined. I still remember they were known for very good quality and the same style for everything. lol I still own two dresses from almost 15 years ago and they still look awesome!

I remember back in the day I used to buy those tees that have the A & F log on them and their hoodies with their branding lol. as I got older, I actually did not shop at Abercrombie for quite some time. It was only a couple years ago I was taken aback how they have rebranded. Im a male customer and let me tell you IMO, I luv what they have done. I am a big fan of their jeans and for tops, I have a bunch of their hoodies. So I can say from my experience Ive had no issues with their Products. But there is one thing Ive noticed. I have their Premium Heavyweight Hoodies which I absolutely love; however, I did notice, when I bought the hoodie in black, it seems they have downgraded OR changed the material they used. I have 3 of their hoodies and I kid you not, the first 2 hoodies I bought are much more heavy in weight than the black colour way. So that kinda turned me off. Meh I guess having 2. out of the 3 hoodies being more of better quality I lucked out I guess lol

Girl, you're right. I hardly buy clothes and out of extreme boredom with my wardrobe, ordered a handful of items total in the span of two years. There are two items I like and wear often but I can now tell the quality isn't worth what I paid. I won't be going back!

The stitching is horrendous on everything but the Sloane pants actually did look good on you & the elastic in the back is super practical for anyone who changes sizes easily or bloats. Fabrics & construction aren't there but they do seem pretty on the mark style wise- if they actually have consistent sizing, the popularity might actually make some sense?

The trench coat is a crime. I got a 100% cotton Cos trench for $225 a few years ago (full price) and the shape was so much more unique and interesting. $200 for synthetic?? However A&F is the only brand I know of that makes curvy jeans in a variety of lengths, so I’m sticking with those because they fit me even better than other jeans I had tailored to my waist.

Old Navy and American Eagle also offer “curvy fit” jeans in various lengths. (I do wish more retailers offered curvy fits, but my guess is that many do not because the profit margin on “specialty” fit items is lower. 🤷‍♀️
