EPISODE #120
Recently I hit a pretty big milestone in my sobriety journey... one that I never thought would be possible at the start. Now 1000 days sober I look back on some of the changes I never believed could happen in my life.
Making the choice to remove alcohol from my life has effected me in so many positive ways, in fact too many to contain in one video. So in thus video I focus on some of the best things I have noticed whilst on this journey.
I hope that if you are on a sobriety journey yourself or you are thinking if starting one... that this might help you. Just know that you deserve a better life and you can achieve it.

Hey. believe me its just one day at a time, you can do it.
Im 38 been sober for like 7 yrs.found cycling about 3 years ago. I partied so much for far too long. I always say sobriety is like my new high.just seeing the world through different eyes
Well done on your 1000 days. Can’t beat outdoors for your mental health, especially cycling. If we could put exercise in a pill a lot of problems could be solved. Keep up the good work.

The irony, putting exercise in a pill... exercise is free people! You don't even need a pill, just your body!

I've been clean for nearly 21 years now and its always great to see people finding themselves in sobriety. There's this really interesting phenomenon of discovering or re-discovering joy and feelings, its like learning to human again. Seeing this kind of thing reinforces for me that how I live my life is a valid option, I mean that in a world that seems to value substances at a pretty high level (especially in cycling where often rides are punctuated at a brewery) it sometimes seems like sober folks are living "partial lives", a limited experience. When really we are staying grounded, present, and clear through everything life throws at us. Its on people like us to make that life appealing and you've done a great job of that with your channel.
Well done mate totally with you here, I’ve not drunk for 1,376 days and don’t miss it because of all the benefits I’ve now gained. Probably helped through cycling too, I would have never thought I would cycle on average 200 miles a week and be so passionate about it. I just love being outdoors. Keep up the great content! 👍🏼🌲🚴♂️💨
Love this. I've had no problems with any substance abuse personally but have had problems with Anxiety/Depression. Being outdoors and cycling has helped me keep my demons away and best of all foster meaningful and true connections with the people closest to me. Some of who I've met through my cycling journey. ♥️
Great video, congrats on 1000 days. I’m approaching 100 days and already feel better in every way.
Awesome man! Im only 280 days sober and it was defo the right decision for me. I think I was basically a functioning alcoholic. All the things I loved before I quit alcohol (cycling, outdoors, etc) are so much better sober. I’ve saved a fortune in money but the real bonus is how much more actual time I have now! Congrats on the 1k and here’s to many more! 💥👍

Only?! 280 days is a massive achievement and you should be proud.
I am 2 years sober, it has improved my life sooooo much!!
Can I honestly say after 14 months sober and doing my first Ironman last month this video completelys confirms my status on life. Thank you for sharing and keep crushing it 👊🏻
283 days for me today. As a musician (a tattoo'd one, somewhat unsurprisingly..!) and a lifelong roadie - there have been some downsides to being sober after a life of... not being... I've found so many challenges being sober which I wasn't expecting - but, ironically, being sober has allowed me to deal with these challenges and unexpected issues. Thanks for this vid. It means the world and just what I needed today, you ****ing KZreadr.
Tea and biscuits indeed! 😋
Thomas, to see that you have taken back control of your life with the help of cycling is inspiring. We all need positive focus in life and seeing it through the lens of a sober person certainly adds a huge heap of authenticity. Thank you and wish you continued success and happiness in Portugal.

Well done, you should be proud of what you’ve achieved so far. Onwards to Portugal! I struggle with 🌿, I did quit for a period of 10 months and found a lot of positive came from that time. I started again and have yet to quit.

Stay on your ride and know that you can do anything.
I am 39 and 2 years sober, wish I had done it earlier, only worry I have now is getting the message through to my kids
i am starting to day with my expirience to quit alcohol out of my life....your video was very motivated for me thanks a lot...and I hope I will get there as well....greets from Switzerland 😊
Hey Thomas, You should've said after the meal you had is "The best thing thing about not drinking is not getting an cab to get home instead I can drive my own car".. Mate that was a very inspiring video and your misses is great.! Thanks for the share buddy..
Congrats on 1000 days sober 👍 Just updated my 'try dry' app and I'm 657 days sober myself. I was using alcohol to escape from having cancer and continued when i was given the all clear. Hard as hell to kick the habit but had loads of support from the wife ❤ All the best for the next 1000 👍
The fact that you have completely stopped alcohol suggests you had a problem? Fair play for turning your life around and seeing a better way ❤
Thanks for this! I'm just over 6 months sober now and couldn't agree more.
Good on ya, great to hear the positive journey 👌
Well done, amazing achievement!!!
Good job dude! Stay strong ❤
Wow! That’s amazing brother!! I completely forgot I have the nomo app. Just looked and I have 1,714 days of sobriety!! Riding helped me too.👊🏼
Congratulations mate, live life to the fullest ❤
So happy for you Thomas!! Congratulations on a huge milestone! To many more!! 🎉👏🏽
Thank you for sharing this and congrats on the 1000 day mark! Life is good!!!!!
Great video Thomas 👍👍
Congrats and thank you so much for this Thomas, you are truly an inspiration. There were so many things that resonated hard For me!! I did so much physical damage through drinking and smoking, which is how I ended up as the "Cardiac" Cyclist, but I also learned It is never too late to improve yourself!!
Congratulations on 1000 days. Nice to see you do so well.
Keep it up! Congratulations!
Brilliant update! Well done ........
Congrats Thomas! Thumps up for these true words!
Congratulations Thomas.
Beautifully written video. Congratulations on the milestone. I'm glad you discussed "control". I may not have drank as much as some do and it may not yet have ruined my life beyond repair, but the realisation I did not have any meaningful control over my drinking was the moment I realised I needed a hard reset. The number of people (usually blokes) I tried to speak to about it who would ask how much I was drinking and then judge whether I had a problem based on the numbers I gave them shows to me the overall lack on understanding around alcohol in our society.
congratulations brotha... you are an inspiration to all of us yeeewwwwww
Congrats and never give up. People need to hear about a clean life. Well done sir!
Congratulations on your ongoing sobriety. There is such a stigma when it comes to talking about mental health, especially for Men. It’s great to hear you be so open and honest. Keep up the great work!
Well done, brother. Needed this today. Really appreciate your candour and frankness. Big up you, Rach and Daisy X ❤️💚💛🔥
Fantastic video! Well done Thomas 👍🏻
Congrats on everything!! Inspiring!! Well done!
Beautiful video, Tommy - I think every one of us who has dealt with some sort of addiction can relate and be inspired by your story. Thank you for your candor and boldness, 🫶 ya man. Cheers from USA
Thank you so much for sharing your story. It’s never easy to openly talk about our inner demons. But we need to face them head on with courage an conviction. Hugs to you my friend and also to your lovely Rachel 🤗🇨🇦
Respect is due! Society would/will be a better place (less violence/better health, etc.) if more people follow your example.
Thank you for making this video. I’m 5 years without drinking and I can relate so much to worrying the next morning after a night out. It’s not for everyone but encouraging people to try it out and removing the negativity and shame around addiction is so important. Well done and congrats on every day!
Great video Tom and it's clear to see no-booze has been good news for you. Your video is very powerful and I think you'll help to inspire a lot of people to drink less or not at all. It's been crossing my mind a lot to quit booze as I never enjoy the side effects; it's just everything I do with my mates socially usually involves a drink. I'm sure this was the case with you too so 1000 days going from that lifestyle is nothing short of amazing.
Excellent video Thomas 🎉
Congrats bro! 🤙🏼
Congrats on the milestone!
Thank you 🙏
Congrats on your milestone! This is a true public service. Your bravery for sharing your experience and message is deeply honorable. You're a real mensch!
Congratulations on your massive personal achievement 👏 Any form of addiction can be massively harmful to you and your loved ones and we should allow our mistakes to help guide us through life but we should never let them define us as people. Keep up the great work and all the best for the future 👍
100% agree getting out in Nature is the key, thanks for sharing 👍
Only drink about once a month now and only 4% beers. Still get massive anxiety after drinking. Otherwise feel amazing. Highly recommend ditching or severely limiting booze. Its poison.
Good on you! Important for people to share their experiences like this.
Hi Thomas, 1000 days is cracking and the first point is 100% - An army career and ex rugby player is all about the binge drinking but since Feb I haven't touched a drop of Alcohol socially nothing as changed I just feel great after a social function. I have cycled 1500km further than last year already as most weekends I am now up early. Also i noticed my mood for 3/4 days after a good night out was low, on top of all that I work in a job where mental health can be heavily impacted and Alcohol can just make it worse. I have said on my 50th I will have a red wine BUT the way I feel now I may just sack that off and yep it defiantly impacted on my wife and that is the best thing about me going out and not drinking. Great video as ever.
Happy for you
Glad you're making a video about this Thomas, not alot of people talk about this kind of stuff.. it really does make earth a better place, big love mate,
I struggled with an addiction for the biggest part of my teenage life and just like you cycling helped A LOT in that I don't fall back anymore after reaching a goal!
Congratulations, that’s a huge achievement in anyone’s language. Good luck on the future journey as well.
This resonates mate. Appreciate the video/ content
❤ not fully sober but cycling definitely helped me cut down on drinking. I was a social drinker not an alcoholic by any means
I don't even drink, and still felt this was really relatable. Keep doing you man, and see you on the road
Looking great brother 💪
God bless, you’re an inspiration! I struggle with my eating habits and your story motivates me!
Gz on the 1000 days and hat off to Rachel for supporting you all the way. On a side note nice wheels 😉
Thomas you are amazing!❤
Congratulations and good luck in your new life
Well done man and huge kudos for putting yourself out there. Takes a big person to own up to problems and work to solve them. ~1.5 years sober myself (I don't count) and have only seen huge benefits. Really wish I would have done this sooner in life if not for myself but for the others around me. What you say about removing alcohol and fitness consistency are 100% spot on. I wasn't as fit at 21 as am today at 40+. Life only gets easier when you remove the things holding you back.
Congrats Thomas. 🎉
Big ups Tom. Love this. x
Great respect bro! Such a Good change
absolute big respect man, it is exactly that, a journey and seems like you have figured it out. Keep it going strong!!! I love to hear this stuff
Congrats to you all the way from Western Canada. Keep up the great work :)
I’m lucky enough to have never had any interest in alcohol, fizzy drinks… drugs or anything. Has never appealed to me luckily. I hear a lot people saying going sober was the best thing they’ve done. Keep it up lads
Well done and good luck with your future plans.
Good message brother, keep up the grind
Your an inspiration buddy keep going 💪🏼👍🙏
Congrats on your 1000 days, I'm a recovering addict on 4 years of sobriety myself, and returning to cycling this winter as-well (on the trainer) after being away from triathlon and sports in general for years. Be kind to yourself.
Well done, great achievement.
Well done Thomas 👍👌
Good for you mate.
Congrats to you Sir . Keep it UP and God Bless
well done Thomas great effort chapeau!
Well done 👊🏾
Great video, great message. Love your vids and enthusiasm for life ( and cycling)!
Congrats my man , I’m in the same boat but no alcohol for over 10 years now , absolutely hands down the best thing I’ve ever done ✅
Thomas absolutely awesome buddy well done its a tougher challenge than any cycle climb out there I have worked in entrenched alcohol/substance misuse/mental health for nearly 20 years and struggled with my MH for over 40 years on/off. Cycling was my therapy since i started in the late 70s so i can congulate you on your succes and journey long may it continue the channel is brilliant and will definitely change people's lives chapeau Thomas.
Congratulations 👏 brother! I put it down in 2019 haven't had one since then. 😎 better health all around. More money for bikes and investments. Definitely more mental peace.
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your honesty :)
Well done Thomas on the 1000 days sober. 😎👍🏻
Bravo. It's more to be Dry and Fly!!!!!!! Congrats.
Well done, spot on, easy to digest the message, stay inspiring!!
While I don’t know you, it doesn’t stop me from being so happy for you.
Just brilliant…. Touched a spot that!
Congrats brother! Used to drink almost every day. I was fat, anxious, and irritated. Stopping that stuff was the best thing I did not only for cycling but for myself! 🎉❤
Just hit 7 months sober, heavily tatted myself and currently living in Dubai.. not an easy place to stay sober. Found some peace with cycling and I think its helping me stay sober. Awesome channel and I look forward to hitting 1000 days just like you. One day at a time though.. STAY UP
