Rapunzel was a GERMAN tale, therefore Rapunzel is suppossed to look GERMAN. I'm sure that if they made Mulan or Pocahontas anything other than what they are, the world would burn in their eyes. Let's stop the unfairness.

@@jjb58 Neither of them are Indian, the closest they've ever gotten to an Indian princess is Esmerelda, but even then, it's a loose link and she's not *technically* a princess. They did tease an Indian princess by the name of Ananya a few years back, with her own movie, but made the excuse that "the audience just isn't ready for her yet." If you ask me, that's enough proof that the race-swapping nonsense is an excuse for lazy writing more than anything lol

I've asked that and on Facebook, no joke, they have said that such a comment is only something a racist would say and then they have gone on to try and explain away how race swapped version of the story already existed. I have also said that maybe they should go and read some classic African fairy tales and adapt one of those stories. There are a lot of unique African fairy tales that talk about brave warriors and even brave Princesses going through coming of age obstacles.
So following a black Little Mermaid, Latina Snow White... now comes an Indian Rapunzel? Could someone explain the obsession with taking European folk takes and getting others to play them? "But... but... representation" - Yeah, great, so why not adapt African, Indian, or Native American folk tales? Is it not just laziness to act like only white people have stories and therefore must "share" them? Is this not a classic case of David Brent-esque racism? Literally every region in the world has a rich variety of interesting folk tales. As a kid, a picked up a book of African folk tales at school - how difficult is that? And to those who use the lazy argument of "those are fictional characters, so why are you even bothered, you racist?" Even if a story is fictional, the historic and cultural backdrop isn't. No, a black aristocrat in 19th century Britain or an an Indian Doge of Venice in Renaissance Italy does not make sense. No, an Korean King David wouldn't make sense in the setting of ancient Israel. However, if you really want to diversify the cast of a European folk tale... or any folk tale, really, you must make it make sense. How? Change the setting. For example, a black Juliet in Renaissance Italy doesn't make sense - but a black Juliet in 2024 New York makes A LOT of sense. Make it make sense. The laziest way to operate is to randomly race swap characters and then call anyone who calls it out a racist. Normally, it's virtue signalling cover-up for lazy writing. And yes, it works both ways! In Gods of Egypt, it didn't make sense for Egyptian gods to look like Germanic action heroes. I mean, even if you couldn't get Rami Malek, who actually is Egyptian, at least get someone who could pass for an Egyptian.

Perhaps you're to young to remember, but I'm hoping you're in my age bracket and will recall this... They already did a time-warp Romeo and Juliet back in the late 90s early 00s with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. It. Was. AWFUL. By far one of the WORST renditions of Romeo and Juliet to ever exist. Ppl hated it. The only ppl who liked it were the teen/pre-teen girls who had posters of Leo on their walls and never missed an episode of, "My So Called Life." 😂 When you try and "re-vamp" classic works, be they Shakespearean plays or Dutch fairytales, it almost NEVER works out. It has always been a huge risk, and filmmakers have to know this, but if you give someone enough money they'll destroy any story you want them to without hesitation. After all, how many of us can actually name the director of the live action Beauty and the Beast? Or the most recent animated flop, Wish? How many of us can even name 5 current directors who aren't Steven Spielberg or George Lucas? It's a relatively small number. I can think of one and a half, M. Night Shayamalan and the Avatar guy who's name I can never remember (which is why I said one and a HALF lol). Cameron-something. Or something-Cameron? Jay Cameron? That feels close. A mass unsubscribe BOYCOTT of Disney is needed! PS. Lovely cat Misha! What is its name?

Yes. Yes they will. This is not a shock anymore. Disney will keep on repeating it again, and again, and again. So when they do it, people better not be shocked. The most you can hope for is that this woman isn’t like Rachel Z

Yep. This isn't Disney stupidly making the same "mistake" over and over again. This is a humiliation campaign against whites by taking away all of our cultural stories and giving them to minorities. I've learned to reverse the old adage when it comes to the system: "Don't attribute to stupidity what you can attribute to malice".

Racism against White is not Reverse Racism, it's RACISM. Woke Disney is just goofs now. Now I want Transgender non-binary pansexual man to play Flint in Tangle.
I guess you could make Runpunzel Persian, as there is a Persian version of the tale called Rudaba. Of course then you should make that the characters name and change the setting.
You haven't had a single real problem in your entire life and it really shows
why can't people just say they are different version instead of ''always was'' type of mentality. No,it wasn't''always was'' you changed the movie. 🙄
Had my hair braided when I was younger, full head of braids. The lady doing it was super happy with the results and kept saying I was really pretty ❤
I was a blonde as a child and then my hair turned dark brown as an adult. My eyes are brown like my dad's but my mother's are hazel. Was I white and then I turned into a POC or am I still white? Because that's kinda what it sounds like from this video. Race doesn't have to do so much with color, rather, Phenotype and haplogroups.
You could play Rapunzel
3:58 the "great replacement" continues
I'd honestly be fine tho with Flynn Ryder being a different race AS LONG as he almost perfectly fits him and can sign REALLY well.
I’m so tired of Race Swapping! If it was all new movies np. And people who say it’s racist wanting to keep a beloved character the same race when they where created. They need to grow the hell up. This is ridiculous. I’m tired of the live action version of great Disney Animation movies too. They suck. The only good one I enjoyed was Beauty and the Beast. Great video Misha

I don’t know why everyone is making such a big deal out of this when Disney hasn’t even said anything as such about giving her the role. Get a life, people
Fun fact about the pirates of the Caribbean, the Female Pirate is a historical figure, WHO WAS ENTIRELY IRISH.
I don't remember being the biggest fan of The Little Mermaid, but I grew up with H.C. Andersens Fairy Tales, seing how they treated the story (which is based on his fairy tale), is just awful. Sure the movie was inspired by his story, but still taking someones culture and ruining, it is just awful. I also grew up with the brother Grimms fairy tales, so seing Rapunzel being treated like this it just feels like "well we don't care about your culture, because it doesn't fit our beliefs and you're white sooo you're awful people".... had to get that off my chest
i mean, at least disney is losing money and soon theyll get their shit together.

YYOOOO misha you’re funny and this is legit haha -CANADA
I'm Indian and while I love the thought of people who look like me being princesses, I think it shouldn't be the official Disney version of it? Like, that version of Camila Cabello as Cinderella. That was great. I'd like to see Indian versions like that. But... the actual Disney films should be just the way the cartoons were or the way little kids think they're supposed to be. It's for the kids after all. I support the point that representation should be made by making *new* material. There are so many beautiful stories out there that nobody in USA's probably heard of. Look for them and make movies from that.
theyre making her RAPunzel ffs
Sorry, Misha. You are mistaken. People are not starting to wake up.
They knew exactly what kind of reaction this would cause. They know that a movie like this will bomb if they release it in this state. So why oh why do they keep doing these? In what way does it profit them? How many times do they have to repeat **the message**?

Last I heard on tiktok this rumour is false but I wouldn't be surprised if it does happen.
I personally don't care much about the race swaps, but this one actually irks me, solely because of the fact there are so many actresses who look like Rapunzel and could easily portray her. Quickly, i can think of Meg Donelly, Florence Pugh, Dove Cameron (maybe), Amanda Seyfried if it happened to be made when she was younger. They all easily have that bubbly energy and look just like Rapunzel, which just goes to show even further that the race swaps are nothing but a marketing strategy.
@ritaehm3828

well you don’t have to be irked bc she isn’t cast in fact there’s no confirmation for a movie either. dove has distanced herself from disney, and florence doesn’t look 18. i agree that amanda would’ve been perfect (she sounds like her and can act rly well) if she were younger.

Your kitty cat is so cute behind you! Just needed to state that fact. 😆🥰
Actually she could be Rapunzel. If they change the setting. Such as maybe in India. Her hair doesn't have to be blonde it could just glow brightly like the sun when the magic is being used. And they could change everything to fit in the setting of being in India. My mistake if she's not Indian. But I think that would work for really any culture. Locate to make changes if you change the rest of the world to fit those changes. You have to make it make sense. And it's okay to use the story as A Outline. Even though we're usually familiar with certain fairy tales from one Specific culture, A lot of those beloved fairy tales are actually retold and have their own versions in practically most cultures. Growing up I was highly fascinated with fairy tales and mythology. Have read many from several cultures Round the world. The stories don't Police have the same name or the exact same detail But often the moral of the story and the Skeleton of the story is the same. With often minor changes due to different cultures. For example there's an African tale of cinderella called mufaro's beautiful daughters. But then again that's not making the live action remake of the cartoon movies. That would be making a retelling our whole new story. The names may even need to be different because they wouldn't fit language wise with the environment it takes place in.
