Not many people know how this tool works. Making a special tool to form a square pattern
This is a creative idea for trying to make a tool to make square or hexagon patterns on a lathe without having to use a milling machine.
by working using a spring as a driver for the lathe cutting edge.

Do you have slo-mo on your cell phone? Record a video in slow motion. You’ll likely see the problem. Also, try slower spindle speed.

Thank you for the advice
Cool work thanks 👍

Thanks 🙏👍👍

impressive 👍👍

Try facing. (Facing on the lathe uses a facing tool to cut a flat surface perpendicular to the work piece's rotational axis.)

Thank you but this tool is not valide.
The spring is the proplem

Do you think the springs are too hard??
I understand the concept but applying it to this operation is going to be futile. The tool isn't following the shape of the stock because the tool is floating. For this to work at all the spindle RPM would have to be near 15 RPM. There are far better ways to mill this on the lathe. None of which includes rotating the stock conventionally, as you did here. I think this idea should be saved in that special box or drawer (that we all have). With any luck another operation will come along that this tool will fit. Wakodahatchee Chris

@@KULITEKNIK001 Sadly, for square stock I can't. Your tool might work if the bearing was following a concentric shape, like a Cam Lobe. It would still have to turn painfully slow to avoid tool float though. Remember the only cutting pressure is from the spring.
Your smart idea just needs to be developed and good luck 👍
