This 10cc reggae classic about a white man's experiences while holidaying in Jamaica is based on real events that occurred in Barbados, where Eric Stewart of 10cc and Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues took a vacation in 1977. Hayward was left on a boat with two guys from Barbados and one from Jamaica. Stewart recalled in the book 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh, "Justin and I were on a para-sailing raft in the middle of the ocean and I was strapped into this parachute gear. I was towed behind a speedboat at high speed. I took off and waved goodbye to Justin. He was then left on the raft with three black guys, one Jamaican and two from Barbados. The Jamaican guy said to Justin, 'I like your silver chain, man, I'll give you a dollar for it.' Justin replied, 'come on, it's worth a lot more than that and it's a present from my mother.' And this guy said, 'If this was Jamaica, I would cut your hand off for that.' I came back and asked Justin if he wanted to have a go. He said, 'No, let's get off this raft as quick as we can, I have had some problems.' When we got back to England, I relayed the story to Graham (Gouldman) and we wrote a song around it."

Wearing expensive jewelry to cities or countries known for theft is simply not wise. My aunt visited Naples once and her bracelet fell out from under her sleeve when she pointed at an item in a market. The shop owner pointed at it and said, “no, no!” My aunt quickly hid it back up under her sleeve. My aunt knew better. You see, she didn’t live in Naples at the time, but she had lived there for years a decade before that.

10cc was so brilliant and creative and smart that most people just didn't get it. But that's another reason why we liked them.

Rubber Bullets next!! Like if you agree! Couldn't believe it was 10cc when I heard it what a versatile band.

Their 3 British number one singles were Rubber Bullets, I'm Not in Love and Dreadlock Holiday. They sound so different they could be by 3 different bands. Also a different lead singer on each - Lol Creme, Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman respectively.

I NEVER thought I’m a million years you guys would do this song. I’ve been listening since nearly day one. This is a jam 🙌 Even my teenager loves it. Not as well known.
Also for clarification on the voices in "I'm Not in Love": They are all voices recorded by members of the band, but they were all recorded as tape loops which were then controlled via the mixing console in a manner similar to synths on a keyboard, which was very innovative for it's time pre-sampling.
Be ready, boys. You don’t have to get very deep with 10cc before things are less and less commercial and more and more experimental.

10cc was such a creative and versatile band, all four guys were song writers, singers and played multiple instruments. Although this song came out after Godley and Creme had left, it is still a banger. Some more songs to check out: Good morning judge, Rubber bullets, The wall street shuffle, I'm Mandy fly me, The things we do for love, Feel the love. Graham Gouldman wrote the 60s hits ‘For your love’ for the yardbirds and the classic ‘Bus Stop’ for the Hollies together with ‘No milk today’ for Herman’s hermits long before he joined up with 10cc. great songwriter.
Still stands up after all these years. So catchy, and the production and engineering are spot on.
10cc was quite a foursome - all could sing and play multiple instruments, all could write songs, and their production techniques were brilliant.
'Feel the Benefit' i, ii and iii. Eleven and a half minutes of guitar perfection.
“Good Morning, Judge” from the 1977 album Deceptive Bends is very cool sonically.
I am SO glad you liked this song!! You have to watch the video. It's fun.
10cc has always been one of my favorite groups. They were one of those bands that the minute there discs would hit the record store, I was there to get it. Very 10cc, very wonderful!!
The legendary Graham Gouldman was the lead guitarist and wrote/co-wrote most of the songs for 10 CC. He also wrote the hit songs For Your Love and Heart Full of Soul for the Yarbirds along with Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window for The Hollies along with numerous hits for various other bands before co-founding 10CC.
They are a next level band. Do more.

They are genius. The album was advertised in the UK in 1978 with the slogan "Make your presents heard". 10cc forever. Still listen to their albums and I never tire of them.
‘Second sitting for the last supper’, I’m Mandy fly Me’, ‘Art For Arts Sake’ and of course the brilliant ‘Clockwork Creep’ and if nome of those peak your curiosity then you surely have to try ‘The worst band in the world’.
Love this one!
This song was one of my 1st karaoke songs performed. This band was so great. Their masterpiece was Feel the Benefit. You owe it to your historic education to react to it next. Thanks for reacting to Dreadlock Holiday!
Groovin´to a little reggae. It is a strange and wonderful song. More kudos to 10cc and to you guys for the review. Ya mahn.
When Reggae broke big in the late '70s, a lot of white bands (esp. British) tried their hand at it, because it was such a new and profound experience. The Stones, Led Zepplin's D'yer Mak'er (which, when pronounced a certain way, sounds like Jamaica), The Clash, and, of course, much of the Police. As to where to go next for Reggae, any of Marley's big hits are great, but also check out Peter Tosh, esp. anything from his album Legalize It, one of the genre's great albums. Also, Bunny Wailer, Lee 'Scratch' Perry (weird, experimental, fun, hugely influential on modern DJs), Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff ... they should all get you started with come classic stuff.
@DustinLollar

But not all were able to do it remember Zepplin had to hire a Reggae backing band for D'yer Mak'er after they couldn't get the timing down, hence their reluctance to play live.

The influence of Jamaican music was huge in Britain in the 70 s and 80s when I was growing up - lots of reggae and ska from bands like The Specials, UB40 and The Beat. The wave of immigration from the Caribbean had a massive influence on British culture.
Also, the West Indies won two cricket world cups in the 70s and were also starting to become a formidable test cricket team, which continued through the 80s.
"Sheet Music" is a criminally underrated album recorded by the original line up of 10cc. As with this song, the sound is totally different than the syrupy stuff the later line up put out. "Wall Street Shuffle" and "The Worst Band In The World" are two cuts that immediately come to mind

The BossHoss: a German Country Western band that covers hip-hop. Can’t make it up, but their Hey Ya is a hoot!
"I'm Mandy Fly Me" is another great one! Love their creativity!!
Some GFs and I used to go dancing at 'reggae' night at this club on Thursday nights back in the 90s. I loved it so much - this tune was featured often.
It's a nice change from the constantly played 'I'm Not In Love'. They were very skilled and indulged their sense of humour. Give a listen to Head Room (nudge, nudge). Or 'Second Sitting For The Last Supper'.
I haven't heard this in decades... I didn't appreciate it until my first visit to the Caribbean. I was just out of my teens, and it was an unexpected jolt to realize I really was in a foreign country.
My favorite 10cc tune from 1977s Deceptive Bends called Feel the Benefit. An awesome tune with a great guitar solo at the end.
"Feel the benefit" - awesome song by these crazy guys as well.
10cc were an amazing band brilliant, one if the greats easily covered all bases
LOVE this song!! Thank you for the opportunity to listen undistracted and with HEADPHONES. And I can appreciate it now in a different way(s) hearing your comments. OK, Alex you must definitely get versed on authentic reggae, not the ska bands you didn't like.

Thank God we didn't have the introduction you just gave us, when the song came out, and we could just appreciate it's fun and musical values!
I know you guys wouldn't like this song, you'd LOVE it! ❤
"Art for Art's Sake" by 10cc, my favorite.
You really need to understand cricket and the Caribbean and Expat obsession for the game to get the most from this song. Its just so good. Great video of Graham Gouldman talking about the origins of the song, really worth a watch, he wrote some of the most iconic 60's songs for other bands.
What I always liked about 10CC is you never knew what to expect. ✌

And they always slayed.
This is one of those songs from my teen years that my friends and I made our own in a goofy kind of way. Anytime someone would mention something that they didn’t like, for example: if someone said “Yeah, I don’t like hotdogs“ the rest of us would chime in…”I love them”. It was just one of those things. Great song by a great band.
One Night in Paris/Une Nuit a Paris is probably the 10cc magnum opus.
The harder they come by Jimmy Cliff could be the next!
Great song live in concert there playing music like rock gods godly cream great music videos though the years
This was a huge radio hit when I was very young and I loved it. In junior high I went out and bought ten CC's greatest hits. And surely someone in the comments has already talked about the origin of the band name, lol. Kind of like Steely Dan in a way. There is such a rich treasure trove of Bob Marley and the Wailers across many albums and their sound evolved with every single album of course. So many great things from all along the way and I bet you've heard a lot more of them than you think you have. Or at least parts of them. But as someone who owned all of their albums and even covered some of their songs in a reggae band I was in at one point in my late twenties, I think a really great starting point is his final album before he died, Uprising. The studio production on this is mindblowing even today, and everything on it is fire. But then again you can say that about most of his albums. My favorite somewhat older album is Kaya. Actually, I bet you would have a great time working your way through Uprising song by song like you did with some other bands. But if nothing else, check out, from Uprising, The Work Song.
I haven’t heard this song in 40 years. An obscure hit. Loved it when it came out. Thanks for digging this one out. Next 10cc song: Art for Art’s Sake.
These guys were so diverse and multi-talented, it still took some time getting my head around the fact they're the same group that did I'M NOT IN LOVE. Oh boy - I know someone in need of a geography lesson regarding his own state.
How could I have never heard this song??Great beat, smooth groove! Thanks!
You should do Une Nuit a Paris. Rivals Bohemian Rhapsody IMHO. One of my favorites.

Probably the most commercial thing 10cc did. If you want to hear the real 10cc try 'Une Nuit a Paris', 'Brand New Day', 'I'm Mandy Fly Me', 'Worst Band In The World' then head off into Godley and Creme's solo stuff
I gotta say, much of the music of late 60s- thru 70s was just brilliant. The orchestration, dynamics, emotion. The great harmonies, the little fills here and there, the guitar chops on the "and", the zylophone, the punchy bass! The timbales, even the egg shakers!
You’ve just opened a Pandora’s box of shimmering gems , different styles , genres and unique melodies and arrangements that is 10cc. Enjoy … Life is a minestrone 👍🏴

I thought it sounded a bit like Queen, but I didn't think it was them because I thought that it would get played more if it was. Then one day I just decided to search online using those 2 words and discovered in seconds that it was An Englishman in New York.
I'd completely forgotten this gem from my past.
Always a touch of humor in their songs.
Their album "How Dare You?" is one of my favorite albums of all time. (Future album reaction maybe?)
Another good reggae song is "Israelites" by Desmond Dekker.
I've always loved this song, such a groove and lyrically interesting. You gotta do "The Things We Do For Love" by 10CC!
10cc were such a really clever band. They had a lot of commercial success but dig deeper on most of their albums and you will find a real wealth of excellent songs. You should try 'Une unit a Paris/Old wild men/ Don't Hang Up And probably their wierdest song of all Clockwork Creep
Hi guys - great that you loved this song! Funny story about the name of the album it is on - "Bloody Tourists". The story is that 10cc were holidaying in Jamaica at the same time as one of the Beatles (Paul McCartney, I think). Anyway - they happened to pass each other while in cars and McCartney ( recognising them ) yelled out to them (mockingly) "bloody tourists!" That's where the album name comes from.
10cc were massive in the Uk, Kevin Godley & Lol Creme were in the group & went on to make some of the most innovative videos of the late 80’s & 90’s. All 10cc albums are fantastic, my personal stand out is The Original Soundtrack which doesn’t really have a bad track on it, well worth a listen.
I'm pretty sure A&A have not reacted to "Haitian Divorce" by Steely Dan (unless I am just forgetting it from a Livestream). Regardless of the reggae beat, the lyrics to that one would make for a fun review!

10cc are a very talented band who straddled rock and pop very deftly. Their albums are so well put together. You should listen ‘Feel the Benefit’ it’s a Master class in change of beat!
If someone had only heard 2 Beatles songs, and then asked for recommendations for the next one to listen to, you'd get 50 different answers and they all would be good choices. Same with 10cc. They had numerous hits, but their other songs were just as good or better depending on your tastes. So many different suggestions have been made in the comments, and they are all great songs. I personally recommend the epic, "Feel the Benefit" which takes you on a journey that showcases their wide range of musical talents.
