This is just a direct pc port. It's not a remaster or anything. GOG is a preservation.

@@iamaeggmcmuffinboi839 the gog version does come with a japanese pc release too so you could grab a mediakite exe and classic rebirth file and be fine. Do note tho that the exe that comes with the japanese gog version does not work with classic rebirth so you do need the original 1.0 or 1.1 exe.

​@stockton5150 so you had higher expectations than you should've which makes it bad? Not how it works. Capcom only greenlit this and had basically no involvement. Gog had to beg to get the rights to and worked their ass off to make a decent port so the game can be preserved

You're not tripping about the transitions, that's an actual bug they didn't fix. Had the same bug in Classic REbirth when I was making the hardware version work to replace the software renderer, took me a few hours to fix, no idea how they didn't catch that one. There are other bugs too, like the video player not stopping if you alt f4, or controllers doing whatever they want, no native resolution upscaling, probably more.

Seamless HD combined with the classic rebirth mod, and then throwing in another mod for better sound, is THE best way to play this game

Fixed the “skipping” issue by capping my framerate to 60 FPS (I used Rivatuner). Give that a shot

What do you mean not good? it's incredible. Skipping doors and no ink ribbons are a godsend. I don't have the step skips at all. And what do you mean the screen transitions are weird? they are snapier which makes it better. it's a perfect port and the definitive og re1 for me.

i'm just used to the small bit of lag from the ps1 version when a screen transition would pop up, i don't mind it being snappier now but it does take a bit of adjustment to get used to.

I made a mod for the audio years ago. Why can't the publishers do the same? I made a video on my channel explaining why people should demand higher quality audio. I don't post a demo cause they would probably ask to take it down especially now that the game just released. I do have a demo of my high quality audio mod for Metal Gear Solid for PC.

keep in mind this is still fairly new so i'm sure it'll get a patch or two, i know this isn't a remaster and i'm completely okay with that. the game is only $10 so you can't set your standards too high. i'm more disappointed from the skip steps, i'm not sure if that's just my pc being weird or if that's a common issue.

It might be a specific hardware related issue. It doesn't do this on my PC but someone on Discord tried it on 2 different rigs and one ran fine like mine while the other was very noticeably skippy like yours. I use AMD hardware not sure if that has any part in it though.

i'm using an nvidia graphics card so maybe that could be an issue? not too sure though.

The game runs at 30 fps but it is not consistent. On my PC the framerate would fluctuate between 30 and 33 fps. I think when it goes higher than 30 fps the animations begin to break. Seems the game speed is tied to framerate like a lot of classic games. Using rivatuner to cap the framerate to 60 and enabling v-sync fixed the skipping for me.

Gog using their own wrapper to run it Probably they will patch it over time to fix it

i'm hoping they'll patch it. the step snapping doesn't make the game unplayable or unenjoyable but it is a bit disappointing and takes a bit of adjustment

Just give us the damn trilogy on ps5 or series x for convenience. Not everyone has the physical games and a ps1 or a ps3 to buy digitally. For pc just emulate the ps1 version for free

I bought the PS3 version but the pc version let's you skip the doors animations so that's a big win there.

Dunno if you know yet but Capcom didn't make this. Gog begged for the rights and they are the ones who did the port. All Capcom did was give the okay and provide the source code

Cap your frame rate and it fixes the walking jank.

This is preservation, yeah!! Original graphics are pure art. Adjust the gamma and use a good crt shader and the result is superb. No remastering necessary. Only needs a patch to fix the movement of the character.

people are just being armchair game purists. These games have been able to be emulated for over 20 years now and super easily at the best quality graphics on literally any toaster or device... The usual RE news places trying to worship this like its the best thing ever, while they've been paid off and sponsored by this company that is doing this for profit, not some kind of love for the series, give me a break.

The PC version of OG RE1 has already had a “modern” PC port by fan modders that does a better job than what GOG did. The problem is you had to 🏴‍☠️ it cause capcom didn’t sell it anymore. At the very least now people can legally buy it and apply these fan mods for a superior experience now

I have the skip steps issue as well… went away once I installed Classic Rebirth

Capcom should’ve released and official collection this is bs

Very disappointing

They would have left the job to nightdive studios, they seem to be the only ones competent to relaunch old games in perfect shape
