    For some reason, I used this knife review as a foundation for a slightly related rant about "boring designs". This wasn't entirely fair. I didn't want to edit anything out because I still somewhat agree with my own words, I just don't think they were well placed. The Slasher is a decent knife. Should have left it at that 😅

    No problem. Rants sometimes just come out when we least expect it. I think we can all agree that the market is saturated with 3" D2 Micarta/G10. I'd also love to see this blade at 3.50" or even 3.75" to really maximise the blade design. Have a great day - go and flip one of your Hinderers a few times it will make you feel better.

    I agree with you. I'm currently looking for a unique design with at least 3.75 blade. With a name like Slasher, it could be bigger. Thanks, great review, as always.

    I bought one of these as a gift for my neighbor after seeing the unboxing. It's really nice, but I think the detent is a little stiff for a thumbstud only knife. Would be perfect for a back flipper. I love the blade shape and scales and would buy one for myself it was a back flipper. Anyway, my neighbor loves it, so thanks for making me aware.

    It would seem (at least to me) that 60 to 70 percent of production OEM’s and knife manufacturers in general have a really hard time reaching a Rockwell hardness higher than 61. If this is true it would stand to reason that these companies are using higher end steels almost as a marketing ploy more so than an actual benefit for the end user. If the best they can do is 61 Rockwell, I would rather they use steels that perform best between 59-61, than use higher end super steels that are ultimately wasted by poor or insufficient heat treat. Either that, or figure out a way to reach the target Rockwell hardness for these super steels. What is the point in M390 at 59HRC?

  • @Hungrybird474

    @Hungrybird474

    I e been saying this for a while that everyone’s super steels aren’t much to brag about when the heat treat is 59 depending on the steel . Like the magnacut s not heat treated to high enough hrc . At least we know spyderco does a 62 pretty regular . My hogue deka was too easy to sharpen but I don’t know enough enough about magnacut to really say

    I like knives at around 3.5" blade length (3.25" is about the shortest I like). It seems whenever I see a new knife that I like the blade shape of (modified sheepsfoot/wharncliffe/reverse tanto/whatever you want to call it) its in the 3" range (maybe up to 3.25"). My favorite edc is my Civivi Brigand with copper scales/154cm blade. It had about a 3.5" blade (now its about 3.25" because I used it for non knife things). I want to pick up the chevalier but still haven't pulled the trigger because life hasn't let me put money towards hobbies recently. Maybe I should clear out some stuff I don't use and buy one.

    watching this review has been quite an experience :P i'm getting into the hobby, and looking to purchase my first knife that i pick myself (i. e. not a gift). after doing my research, deciding on a blade shape and locking mechanism, i finally found what appears to be the single sheepsfoot crossbar that fit my aesthetic taste... and then it's biggest downside appears to be being generic! if there are truly so many like this, where are they? ;) this is meant in good spirits, not as a complaint. as mentioned i am a newcomer, and expectations and what is considered boring surely differs at such distinct levels of experience. i'm happy to hear the knife is good, and boring is exactly what i'm looking for, so it's probably what i'll end up getting.

    I really dig the knife, but the pocket clip position absolutely sucks and creates a major pokey hot spot so I put on a non-deep carry clip. Also beware the lockbar is pressed together and the passthrough hole isn't large enuff to remove the lockbar, making the knife real tricky to take apart and assemble.

    Good review thank U But I must disagree I like the larger knives for the woods and maybe for the work bag, but as for a EDC give me a knife 3" or less it's long enough to take care of most tasks yet draws less attention if I need to use it in a public setting non knife people don't seem to get quite as tents with a small knife Also Massachusetts is a state where everything is regulated, a True nany state 😎

    Complex. What was that all about? I love your content and your collection. My every day carry is my native 5. Cut zip locks, packages ect. 4 inch handle,3 inch blade. It’s a user I can drop it and not worrying about dropping it .I’m not going to use my xm 18 3.5 as an edc. It’s my collecting steel. Longer than a 4 inch handle digs in my groin in my pocket when I sit and hike. That’s my example. I have collector fix blade and folders just like you. AD Demko 20.5 small one. And your saying you like that knife cause you can put your forefinger at the end of the blade,Still love you Complex. Just my thoughts. This is weird like you say after your rants sometimes.

    The size thing is exactly how I feel about all the front flippers and thumbholes and the extended edge tip blade shapes and super thin blade stock and every knife being a buttonlock or axis or nonlocking slipjoints. No offense. I like flippers and framelocks and thicker blades, stuff you and other reviewers all seem to not like. *shrug* The industry all collectively moves to what the newest fad is so you end up with a LOT of trends and bandwagons coming and going. Everyone's got things they like, and yeah it is frustrating when the trend as a whole is going where you don't align with. Though in this case .. a bit thinner handles and bigger blade would have done this a lot of good.
